3/2007 ● ● ● Three Questions for … Panavision has had its headquarters in Prague’s Smíchov District for a number of years. Why is it now relocating to Barrandov? Prague is an interesting and competitive metropolis in the heart of Europe and is used by large productions from around the world. The volume of work at our Czech office and the orders completed at Barrandov Jeff Allen and Vladimír Kuba signing the contract are rising steadily together with the increasing demands from international crews. During a discussion I had with Vladimír Kuba, the Barrandov Studios General Director, we jointly concluded that it would be advantageous for both companies if we expanded the level of our current cooperation. At the same time, we will include Barrandov’s camera division within the structure of our company. What benefits do you envision from a closer partnership with Barrandov Studios? By centralizing everything at one location, we’ll be able to provide film productions with top level services – we’ll be able to increase flexibility and operability. I believe that relocating to Barrandov will start a new chapter for our Prague activities. We anticipate that the combination of Panavision’s current services together with Barrandov’s equipment at our new 600 square meter premises will be very attractive to foreign projects. What are Panavision’s goals for the future? Whenever any film studios decide to shoot in Central Europe, we want to be the first company that comes to mind. Right now, when we have everything “on one hill” so to speak, our services have no competition in the Czech Republic. We currently offer Panavision equipment together with Panalux lighting technology, which is actually the new trademark name for AFM Lighting, a company that Panavision took over this year. As a result, we are capable of providing the broadest range of film technology in Central Europe together with a contemporary environment and pleasant atmosphere. ● ● ● Hot topic Panavision at Barrandov Barrandov will be home to the largest base offering comprehensive film technology services. This applies not only to the Czech Republic, but for the entire Central European region. At the start of November, Barrandov Studios concluded a partnership agreement with Panavasion, which includes the relocation of the latter to Barrandov premises. Panavision’s new headquarters will be located on the site of former storage facilities and directly adjoins Panalux Prague. It is scheduled to open at the start of next year. Panavision is a leading designer and manufacturer of highprecision camera systems, including film and digital cameras, lenses, and various accessories for the film and television industries. Established in California in 1954, Panavision rents out its equipment through its own network of distributors and international branches. In addition, Panavision supplies lighting, grips, and crane equipment for use in film and television productions.
