<strong>Operating</strong> <strong>Instructions</strong> <strong>For</strong>CLIKR TM -5<strong>Cable</strong> <strong>Remote</strong> <strong>Control</strong>UR5U-8780L & UR5U-8790LUniversal <strong>Remote</strong> <strong>Control</strong>, Inc.www.universalremote.comOCE-0060K Rev 01 (07/13/10)1 Introduction 4 Button FunctionsThe CLIKR TM -5 UR5U-8780L & UR5U-8790L isdesigned to operate the CISCO / SA, Pioneer,Pace Micro, Samsung and Motorola digitalset tops, Plus the majority of TV, VCR, DVDand AUX equipment on the market asshown below.CBL : <strong>Cable</strong> Set-top Box TV : TelevisionsVCR : VCRs and TV/VCRs DVD : DVD PlayersAUX : Audio Equipment, Media PC, etc.2 Replacing BatteriesBefore you program or operate the remote control,you must install two new AA alkaline batteries.STEP1 Remove the battery compartment coveron the back of your remote control.STEP2 Check battery polarity carefully, andinstall the batteries as shown in theillustration below.STEP3 Replace the battery compartment cover.3 OperationsDEFAULT STATE:Device Default: <strong>Cable</strong> Set-Top Box (STB)Channel Default: CABLE channel and numbersthrough the CABLE STB. You have the option ofcontrolling your CABLE channel and numbersthrough the TV or VCR. Refer to section H forprogramming steps.Volume Default: Volume and Mute control areautomatically transferred to the respectiveComponent based on the Device selected:CBL:<strong>Cable</strong> Set-Top Box ; TV:TV ; VCR:TV.DVD:TV ; AUX:AUX. You have the option ofcontrolling CABLE Volume and Mute throughthe TV, VCR or AUX. Refer to section G forprogramming steps.5 Programming the <strong>Remote</strong> <strong>Control</strong>IMPORTANT SETUP NOTE!In this section when you are instructed to press a [DEVICE] button, that means to press either the CBL, TV, VCR,DVD or AUX button, depending on what device you are programming the remote to operate.There are three ways you can program your remote:* Quick Set-Up Method* The Pre-Programmed 3-Digit Code Method* The Auto-Search MethodThe Quick Set-Up Method is a unique feature that enables the fastest and easiest setup by using a 1 digit code.This is the quickest way to set up devices made by popular manufacturers.The Pre-Programmed Code Method allows you to setup all of the buttons at once by entering 3-digit codenumbers that correspond with the components manufacturer/brand. Code tables for this method are on thebackside of the operating instructions.The Auto-Search Method scans through all of the codes in the remote control, one at a time allowing you toidentify the correct code.IMPORTANT SETUP NOTE!This pertains to all programming steps. When you are in setup mode the device LED will light for 30 seconds. If you donot press a button within 30 seconds, the LED light will turn off and exit setup mode, and you will need to start over.A. Quick Set-Up MethodSTEP1STEP2STEP3Turn on the equipment you want toprogram. To program your TV, turn onthe TV.Point the remote at the component andpress and hold the [DEVICE] key for 3seconds until the Device LED blinks offand turns back on. Continue holdingthe [DEVICE] key and press the numberkeys, one at a time, starting with 1, then2, 3...0. Stop pressing the number keyswhen the device turns off.Release the [DEVICE] key to save thecode. The Device LED will blink twiceto confirm the code is stored.Repeat the steps above for all components(TV, VCR, DVD, AUX).B. Pre-Programmed 3-Dight Code MethodSTEP1STEP2STEP3Turn on the equipment that you wantthe remote control to operate (<strong>Cable</strong>Box, TV, VCR, DVD, etc.).Press the [DEVICE] button and the[OK/SEL] button simultaneously forthree seconds. The correspondingdevice LED will turn on indicating thatit is ready to be programmed. The LEDwill remain on for 30 seconds. Thenext step must be entered while theLED is on.Point the remote control toward theequipment and enter the three-digitcode number assigned to your brandfrom the code tables. If there are morethan one three-digit number listed foryour brand, try one code number at atime until your equipment turns off.*Note : You can verify that you have selected thecorrect code by pressing the [POWER]button. The equipment should turn backon. Then try all of the functions on theremote control (i.e. volume, mute, etc.) toensure you have the correct code. If anyof the functions do not operate as theyshould, repeat the instructions fromSTEP 3 above using the next three digitcode number from the brand list.STEP4Store the three-digit code by pressingthe same [DEVICE] button onceagain. The device LED will blink twiceto confirm that the code has beenstored.C. Auto-Search MethodIf none of the three digit code numbersassigned to your brand of equipment works, orthe code table does not list your brand, you canuse the Auto Search Method to find the correctthree-digit code number for your equipment byfollowing steps:STEP1Turn on the equipment that you wantthe remote control to operate (<strong>Cable</strong>Box, TV, VCR, DVD, etc.).STEP2 Press the [DEVICE] button and the[OK/SEL] button simultaneously forthree seconds. The device LED willturn on indicating that it is ready to beprogrammed. The LED will remain onfor 30 seconds. The next step must beentered while the LED is on.STEP3 Press the [CH] or [CH] button oneat a time or keep it pressed. Theremote will emit a series of PowerON/OFF code signals. Release the[CH] or [CH] button as soon as theequipment turns off.*Note : You can verify that you have selected thecorrect code by pressing the [POWER]button. The equipment should turn backon. Then try all of the functions on theremote control (i.e. volume, mute, etc.) toensure you have the correct code. If any ofthe functions do not operate as they should,repeat the instructions from STEP 3 aboveto continue the Auto Search Method.STEP4Press the same [DEVICE] button tostore the code. The Device LED willblink twice to confirm that the codehas been stored.D. To Identify the 3-Digit CodeProgrammed for a DeviceSTEP1Press the appropriate [DEVICE] buttonand the [OK/SEL] button simultaneouslyfor three seconds. The device LED willturn on for 30 seconds. The next stepmust be performed while the LED is on.STEP2 Press the [INFO] button. The device LEDwill blink a number of times indicatingthe number of each digit for the code.Each digit is separated by a one secondinterval of the LED being off.Example : One blink, (pause) three blinks,(pause) eight blinks indicates thecode number 138.*Note : Ten blinks indicates the number 0.E. Programming the AUX DeviceYou can take advantage of the AUX function toprogram a devices such as a media PC, gamingconsole or satellite radio receiver. Followthe instruction in section B to program an AUXdevice. You can also program the AUX buttonfor a second TV, VCR or DVD player. To do thisfollow the instructions below.STEP1STEP2STEP3Turn on the 5th device you want toprogram (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.).Press the [AUX] button and the[OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3seconds. The [AUX] device LED willturn on for 30 seconds.Press the [Device] button <strong>For</strong> the type ofdevice you want to setup. Point theremote control toward the device andenter the 3-digit code number assignedto your brand.*Note : To program a second TV press TV, etc.STEP4 When the equipment turns off verifythat you have selected the correctcode by pressing the [POWER] button.The equipment should turn back on.Then try all of the functions on theremote control (i.e. volume, mute, etc.)to ensure you have the correct code.If any of the functions do not operateas they should, enter the next 3-digitcode number from the brand list.STEP5 Once you have found the correct3-digit code, save it by pressing the[AUX] button one more time. The [AUX]LED light will blink twice to confirm thecode was stored.F. Programming the System On/Off ButtonThis allows you to program the System On/Offbutton so it can send up to five power On/Offcommands with one button press.STEP1 Press the [CBL] button.STEP2STEP3Press the [SYSTEM ON/OFF] buttonand the [OK/SEL] button simultaneouslyfor 3 seconds. The [CBL] button will turnon for 30 seconds.Press the first [DEVICE] button you wantto store in the [SYSTEM ON/OFF] buttonand then press [POWER]. Repeat this forthe other components you want to turnon/off with the [SYSTEM ON/OFF] button.STEP4Press the [CH] button to save thepower commands you stored. The[CBL] button will blink twice to confirmthe commands have been saved.G. Programming Volume <strong>Control</strong>Volume and Mute control are factory programmedto automatically transfer to the respective Devicemode You select, as follows:CBL :CBL T V :TV VCR :TVDVD :TV AUX :AUXIf you wish to store the TV volume control inCBL mode, use the following steps.STEP1STEP2STEP3Press the [OK/SEL] button and [CBL]button simultaneously for threeseconds. The device LED will turn onfor 30 seconds. The next step mustbe performed while the LED is on.Press the [VOL] button. The deviceLED will blink.Press [TV] button. The device LED willblink twice to confirm the programming.*Note : To return CBL device to CBL volumerepeat steps above replacing [TV] with[CBL] in Step 3.H. Programming Channel <strong>Control</strong>You can program the channel controls (ChannelUp, Channel Down, Last and Numbers) fromone Device to operate in another Device mode.Default channel control settings on the remotecontrol are as follows:CBL :CBL T V :CBL VCR :CBLDVD :DVD AUX :AUXIf you wish to store the TV channel controls inTV mode, use the following steps.STEP1STEP2STEP3Press the [OK/SEL] button and [TV] buttonsimultaneously for three seconds. Thedevice LED will turn on for 30 seconds.The next step must be performed whilethe LED is on.Press the [VOL] button. The deviceLED will blink.Press [TV] button. The device LED willblink twice to confirm the programming.*Note : To return TV device to CBL channelrepeat steps above replacing [TV] with[CBL] in Step 3.I. Programming a ‘Macro’ button.If your remote model has custom-programmableMacro buttons available(See Section 4), theycan be programmed to act as a ‘Macro’ orFavorite Channel button in CABLE mode. Thisallows you to program up to five 2-digit channels,four 3-digit channels or three 4-digit channelsthat can be accessed with one button press.STEP1STEP2STEP3STEP4Press the [CBL] button to select the CBLmode.Press the [MACRO] button and[OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3seconds. The [CBL] button will turnon for 30 seconds.Enter the the 2, 3 or 4-digit code for thechannel you want programmed first (forexample, 007) using the Number Pad,then press the [STOP] button. Thenenter the code for the next channel (forexample, 050), then press the [STOP]button. Repeat this process for the thirdchannel. The [CBL] button will blinkonce for each channel entered.Press the [CH] button to store thechannels that were selected. The[CBL] button will blink twice to confirmthe storage of commands.To access the programmed channels, pressthe [MACRO] button once. This will bring upthe first channel. Press once again and it willbring up the second channel. Press again andit will bring up the third channel.J. Low Battery WarningWhen the batteries are low and need to bereplaced with fresh batteries, the Device LEDlights will blink 2 times in sequence whenever a[POWER] button is pressed to turn on equipment.K. Memory Lock SystemThis remote control is designed to retain programmedmemory for 10 years even after batteriesare removed from the remote control.L.
