Youth & Education ProgramPEP – Performance Excellence Program - JuniorsArtist: Louise BrehmerComplicatedLouise Brehmer was the artist in residence for Caloundra’spaid project - Complicated. This involved 60 students in Years6-9. She directed the students in a series of scenes centeredon friendship.Aspley State High SchoolArtist: Laurel CollinsMaking Text Come AliveYear 9 and 12 students worked with Laurel in devising textwork for local primary schools. The project included a seriesof classroom activities and practical workshops that offeredteachers professional development and experience forstudents in presenting a script by youth for a youth audience.The project involved 84 students.Beenleigh State High SchoolArtist: Dion AndertonLiving in Beenleigh TownThe project incorporated multimedia and communityinvolvement into a performance. Dion worked with thestudents to devise text and images to be used in thescreening of a documentary style montage. The key focusof the project was to discuss and explore what it is likefor young people living in Beenleigh with positive imagesdepicting the need for more resources and the reflectivebehaviours of a growing population. The project involved 37students.Capalaba State High SchoolArtist: James HarrisonA Midsummer Night’s DreamThe project involved a James working with teachers andstudents in creating a lighting design that was an integralpart of the school production. James undertook workshopswith both teachers and students in safety, design, rigging,focussing and plotting. The project involved 60 students.This project has built a rapport with students and hasbrought a greater appreciation of drama within the schooland wider community.Ildiko KeoghTeacher, Sunshine Beach State High SchoolHaving the artist in school helped the students strive forexcellence.Kristy HainTeacher, Caloundra State High SchoolIt was great to have this opportunity and (it) has injected somuch energy into my classroom.Suzanne CampbellTeacher, Beenleigh State High SchoolWritingGeorge Landen Dann AwardIn 2004, Aedan Whyatt won the George Landen Dann awardfor playwrights 19 – 25 years old with his play I witness. Hisprizes included an all expenses paid trip to the NationalYoung Writers Festival in September 2004, a 2005 Seasonticket, a $200 book voucher from Book Nook, $500 cash anda framed certificate.Young Playwrights Awards (YPA)In its 13th year, YPA is designed for playwrights 13 - 18 yearsold. The awards have a strong regional focus and manyentries are by students who live in regional areas. Youth & Education ProgramTheatre Residency Week (TRW)Held at Lourdes Hill College, Theatre Residency Week is alive-in drama skills week for young Queenslanders between14 and 17 years old. The 2004 residency included both juniorand senior weeks and incorporated core groups, workshops,a night program and works in progress evening.
