PACE Integrator Wins University President’sService Award for ExcellenceAlan Steeves, PACE Integrator for the University of BritishColumbia (UBC), has done it again! After leaving the 2008PACE Global Annual Forum with the Distinguished PACEIntegrator Award and the 2008 PACE Laboratory Award, he wasselected for the 2009 President’s Service Award for Excellenceby the University of British Columbia. Alan is the Computerand Electronics Manager in the Department of MechanicalEngineering at UBC, and was acknowledged in this recentaward for attracting the PACE sponsorship to UBC. Criteria forthis award includes community service and activities that raiseUBC’s profile nationally and internationally.The award comes with a gold medal, a certificate, and$5,000 (CND). “I do a lot of volunteer work, but I am convincedthat my involvement with PACE is the reason I won this award,”stated Steeves. In December2008, Parisa wasnamed one of theyear’s WesbrookScholars. WesbrookScholarsmust rank inthe top tenpercent oftheir classand possess the ability to serve, work with, and lead others. Thisprestigious award recognizes outstanding achievement, and issponsored by the Wesbrook Society, an organization of UBC’smajor benefactors.In June 2009, Parisa won the Queen Elizabeth II (QE II)British Columbia Centennial Scholarship. Only one QE II majorscholarship with a total value of $60,000 is awarded in theprovince of British Columbia (B.C.) each year. The scholarshiprecognizes B.C.’s top post-secondary student in order to helphim/her pursue graduate studies in other Commonwealthcountries.“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been selectedfrom numerous outstanding candidates as the recipient ofthe Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship.
