Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday - St. Pius V

Easter Vigil and Easter SundayI – Epistle: Colossians 3, 1-4; Gospel: Matthew 28, 1-7;II – Epistle: 1 Corinthians 5, 7-8; Gospel: Mark 16, 1-7.(04-04-10)In our ongoing present celebration, we now came to the part of the Holy Eucharist, which is the last of the four parts of the Easter Vigil liturgical services that we began on thenight of Holy Saturday. These parts are the service of the Light, the Liturgy of the Word,Christian Initiation and the Renewal of Baptismal Vows, and the Holy Eucharist.*The true followers of Christ are ever happy and ever joyful to learn and to celebratethrough our Easter Vigil and Easter liturgical services that their ever-triumphant Master,Christ the Lord, is gloriously risen from the dead. He was once put to death by the powers ofdarkness but in His Death, which became a saving Death to all, He shattered the powers ofdarkness that had brought death into this world. He then came back to life as our immortalLord, gloriously reigning forever, and brought a new life to the creation. Thus, all humankind must be ever grateful to God for making it possible for us tocome to the true Light -- which is Christ -- from out of darkness, where the prince ofdarkness reigned supreme with impunity and without end in sight. This truth of passingfrom the domain of darkness to the domain of Light was symbolized in the first part of ourEaster night Vigil services. There, the celebrant-priest, amidst the surrounding darkness, lighted the candle, in order to bring home the truth of the appearance of Christ, Whobrightened with His redeeming light the fallen creation. He then proclaimed Christ the Lightthrice, the first proclamation being outside of the Church, the next proclamation being uponthe entrance of the Church, and the last proclamation being upon stepping into the innersanctuary of the Church. With this third proclamation, the Church’s precincts were totallyillumined to show us that Christ the Light appeared on this earth and it grew to reachinstantly to every nook and corner of the fallen creation.God was always with humankind. This fact of relationship of God with His poorhuman creatures is shown through the specific marvels of God after the creation and thepromise of Redemption. Hence, in our night Vigil services, we came across, through theScriptural readings, how much God did for the entire human family, in order to protect itand bring it safe along its course of an earthly journey, leading to the eternal destiny. Thus, the liturgy of the Word, which was the second part of our liturgical services, unfolded themarvels of God in the History of Salvation. With the Redemption accomplished, it was time to taste it and be an inseparable partof it. Those, who have been blessed to be born anew into the domain of the Kingdom of Godwith the waters of regeneration, could remember with gratitude the day of their conversion
