Théâtre du Soleil II.GENERAL PRESENTATION OF THE TOURING SET II.1. DESCRIPTION OF STAGE SET The performance space on tour is a 'transposition' of the one at the Cartoucherie : The set is of the attic of a restaurant cum dance-‐hall (guingette) in 1914. It is a vast space in the style of early twentieth century Parisian workshop studios, equipped with a variety of theatrical equipment (ropes, canvases mounted on frames) and the ypes of lighting then being used to invent the art of cinema. The architecture of the Cartoucherie itself dates from this very era; as the metal and glass roof structure were already there, all that was needed for the stage set was flooring, glass windows stage left, the entrance to the attic (the stairwell leading down to Félix's restaurant) and a passage-‐way stage right. At the Cartoucherie, the performance space situates itself quite naturally within the building's own architecture (see below): Ceiling light (Ymir®) Interior show-‐grid Back drop Back wall Passage-‐way Glass windows Stairwell leading down to ‘Félix's restaurant’ Wooden flooring Edge of stage Les Naufragés de Fol Espoir – II General presentation -‐ 6 -‐

Théâtre du Soleil II.2. OVERALL DIMENSIONS The general dimensions of the space comprising the stage and the audience seating are: The stage space is delineated by the following main elements: Depth: +/-‐ 45m ; Width : 35m ; Height: 10m at maximum point - far upstage: a back drop. Painted alveolar panels will constitute the back wall behind it. Behind this wall there is a Layher® scaffolding construction covered with a drop; - stage right: the wall will be a Layher® scaffolding construction covered with painted alveolar panels on one side and by a drop on the other side. Behind this wall there is a quick change dressing area; - stage left: glass windows separate the stage from the musician's space and the wings (including storage and quick change dressing areas); - roof: all elements constituting the roof are fixed to a self-‐climbing motorized truss/technical rig : interior show-‐grid, painted alveolar panels, ceiling light (Ymir®) and all lighting and sound equipments. Théâtre du Soleil II.3. HANGING/RIGGING (SELF-‐CLIMBING MOTORIZED TRUSS AND TECHNICAL RIG) The self-‐climbing truss on tour reproduces the slopes of the roof structure of the Cartoucherie. It is made up of four main structural elements: Couvralu® super-‐structure Interior show-‐grid Mega-‐Towers® x 6 Portico frames x 2 Les Naufragés de Fol Espoir – II General presentation -‐ 9 -‐

Théâtre du Soleil The 2 lateral portico frames are made up of 6 Méga-‐Towers (Stacco®) which rest on I-‐section beams, integrated into the Layher® scaffolding of the stage. Each Mega-‐ Tower is equipped with a guiding trolley and there are 8 motors (2 on each central Mega-‐Tower and one on the others). The total length of each portico is 25m. Characteristics of the 6 Méga-‐Towers (Stacco®) series 500: Height: approx. 7m — Section: 0.57m x 0.57m Characteristics of the 6 guiding trolleys: Lifting capacity — 2t / revolution Characteristics of the 8 lifting motors: Lifting capacity — 1tThe Couvralu (Layher®) super-‐structure is made of aluminium scaffolding and trusses: beams ensure the bracing of the trusses among themselves. Safety axles and pins ensure the locking without screws. The interior show-‐grid is an aluminium structure attached to the Couvralu (Layher®) super-‐structure. It allows for the fixing of almost the entirety of the pulleys and ropes used during the show. It is composed of trusses and crossbeams. Théâtre du Soleil II.4. STAGE, MUSICIAN'S SPACE AND WINGS These are all on the same level, resting on a Layher® scaffolding, approximately 1m high, which hold wooden boxes in place. These are then covered with carpet and finally overlaid with wooden flooring. The eventual height is 1.17m. A plan showing the mesh of the Layher® scaffolding can be seen on the next page. The musician's space is stage left, downstage, behind the glass windows and partially within the view of the audience (Cf. schema page 8). The wings stretche out stage left, as well as behind the back wall. They serve both as a place to store all moving scenery elements (painted canvases on chassis frames) and the quick change dressing areas. The wings are not within view of the audience. Théâtre du Soleil II.6.2 SURTITLING For the surtitles, there are three video projectors and several screens. Screen 1 is installed above the audience seating on the bridge. It is projected onto from both sides : one of the projections is for the audience, the second is for the actors. Two of the three video projectors are fixed (Vp.1 and Vp.3). The third (Vp. 2) is installed at the surtitle operations post on a tripod, and is manipulated by the surtitles operator to project onto different screens and onstage surfaces. Théâtre du Soleil II.7 ACTORS’ DRESSING AREAS / MAIN DRESSING AREA AND QUICK CHANGE AREA The actors get into costume and make-‐up in view of the audience, who will therefore be able to see them both before and after the performance. The main dressing area must be situated within immediate proximity of the stage, preferably stage right. The Théâtre du Soleil will bring the wooden structure (roof) and the black curtains delineating the main dressing area (20M long x 5M wide x 3M High) which shape can be adapted depending on the space available Inside the venue. Quick changes areas are located just behind the wall stage right and in the wings stage left. Example installation of the actors’ main dressing area on tour Les Naufragés de Fol Espoir – II General presentation -‐ 25 -‐

Théâtre du Soleil II.8 BAR SPACE / ACCESS FOR THE GENERAL AUDIENCE The bar space for the audience should ideally, as far as is possible, retain a certain sense of harmony with our own decor (see below photograph of the bar at the Cartoucherie). The bar space will be reserved for audience reception and audience dining both before and after the performance. It is important to take care not to let any of the stage sets be seen by the audience before they enter the performace space; they are to enter solely from stage left. As the audience enter the performance space, the wing serving as a storage space stage-‐left, must not be within view of the audience (cf. Photograph on page 10). The stage itself will be concealed by a tulle upon entrance of the audience, which will be supplied by the Théâtre du Soleil. However, it will be necessary to foresee blacking cloths for the sides of the seating, to focalise the audience's attention onstage. The actual conditions of the layout of the bar/audience reception area will be clarified in the Specific Technical Rider. At the Théâtre du Soleil, the audience have the possibility of dining before and after the performance, in our large bar space. At intermission (occuring 1h55 after the performance starts and lasting 15 minutes), refreshments are provided, without the bar itself being open. On tour, there are two options: the bar will either be run by the Théâtre du Soleil (in that case the Théâtre du Soleil shall add complementary technical requirements to the technical rider) or by the host venue. Duration of the play: 1h55 + 15 minutes (intermission) + 1h45 minutes Bar space at Théâtre du Soleil (Cartoucherie) Les Naufragés de Fol Espoir – II General presentation -‐ 26 -‐
