Our activities here are varied (a few surprises thrownin) and focus on life in India in this beautiful village. It isour first opportunity to get an insight into rural Indianlifestyle, with a visit to a local home for an authentic cookingdemonstration, a guided walk through the local village andmingling with the villagers. Amazing photo opportunities await! BDay 4 / Sunday 11 April 2010KotaToday we drive to Kota. Our traveling distance <strong>today</strong> is fairlyextensive and we will take a picnic lunch to enjoy along theway. The highlight on route is the captivating town of Bundiwhere we visit the incredible and imposing 16th centuryRajput palace for a sightseeing <strong>tour</strong> and the 16th centurystep well. After our day of traveling and sightseeing we arriveat our heritage hotel for a quiet evening of relaxation. BDay 5 / Monday 12 April 2010BijaipurTonight we have a real highlight as we stay in a 275 year oldcastle as guests of our host who is the 13th ruler of thedynasty. After time to relax by the pool, we embark on ourafternoon tribal jeep safari which will give us insight intothe tribal belt of south eastern Rajasthan known as MEWAR.BDay 6 / Tuesday 13 April 2010UdaipurOn route to the ‘Venice of the East’, Udaipur, we stop for avisit at the sprawling hilltop fort of Chittorgarh, one ofthe finest medieval forts ever built. After lunch we proceedto Udaipur, the romantic city of lakes and gardens and toour hotel, the Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel overlooking LakePichola – this is one of the most sought after properties intown. This afternoon we visit the west zone cultural centrefor a cultural program. BDay 7 / Wednesday 14 April 2010UdaipurThis morning we visit the imposing City Palace toweringover the lake and then on to the 400 year old JagdishTemple. We have the afternoon to explore at leisure until alate afternoon boat ride on Lake Pichola. BDay 8 / Thursday 15 April 2010Rawla JojawarAn early departure this morning will take us to Kumbalgarhwhich boasts a 15th century fort – the largest in Asia andone of the finest examples of defence fortification in theworld. After lunch we carry on to Ranakpur to visit theastonishing 15th century Adinath Temple built in whitemarble and supported by 1444 pillars. Continuing ourdrive, we arrive at our 250 year old heritage property for atwo night stay. This afternoon we relax and enjoy theproperty and the pool which is the centre point of the hotel.BDay 9 / Friday 16 April 2010Rawla JojawarThis morning we enjoy a 2½ hour jeep safari around theregion before a little more time to relax as we prepare for anamazing afternoon train journey winding through thebeautiful Aravali mountains (be prepared to meet somemonkeys!) BDay 10 / Saturday 17 April 2010ChandelaoClose to the city of Jodhpur, we find Chandelao. Here wewill be lucky to see any other <strong>tour</strong>ists as we explore thevillage, interact with the local villagers and learn about theart, heritage and culture of Rajasthan. Our accommodationwill be the heritage property the Chandelao Garh. BDay 11 / Sunday 18 April 2010JodhpurOne of the highlights of any visit to Rajasthan is the ‘bluecity’ of Jodhpur. The indigo colour houses of the old towncan best be seen as we explore the mighty MeherangarhFort which looms high above the buzzing city. We also visitthe Jaswant Thada, a beautiful 19th century white marblememorial and the royal crematorium. We have time in theafternoon to explore the narrow bazaar filled alleys of theold city. BDay 12 / Monday 19 April 2010OsianToday is a real highlight of a different kind. We are set tosample desert life in the great Thar Desert with a camelsafari and a stay at the Osian Camel Camp. We see thesunset over the dunes in the desert after our afternoon camelride and enjoy the luxurious tents (with private facilities) atthe camp. In the evening we are treated to a musicalextravaganza by local musicians from western Rajasthan. B,DDay 13 / Tuesday 20 April 2010BikanerToday we drive to the distinctive desert town of Bikaner. Onthe way we stop at the beautiful 15th century Nagaur Fortfor a sightseeing <strong>tour</strong> and lunch. We carry on to Deshnokto visit the fascinating Karni Mata Temple – the rat temple.Thousands of holy rodents inhabit this temple – keep youreyes peeled for a white rat and you will be blessed by goodfortune if you spot one! We arrive at the Lalgarh PalaceHotel, one of the finest examples of colonial, Islamic andHindu architectural styles and which is part of theMaharaja’s modern palace, for our two night stay. Wethen visit the exquisite City Palace which is still home tothe former Maharaja of Jaipur. We have the afternoon atleisure perhaps to explore the lively markets and bazaars ofJaipur. BDay 18 / Sunday 25 April 2010AgraThis morning we drive to the world heritage site, FatehpurSikri, the abandoned city. The city numbers among thefinest specimens of Mughal architecture, built by the Mughalemperor Akbar in the second half of the 16th century.Following a sightseeing <strong>tour</strong> of the city we carry on to Agrafor the night. BDay 19 / Monday 26 April 2010DelhiNo trip to India could be complete without a visit to themajestic and universally admired Taj Mahal!
