The Tempe Chamber of Commerce recommends Wendy Rogers(District 17) and John McComish (District 20) for the State Senate and Ben Arredondo (District 17), Steve May (District 17), BobRobson (District 20) and Rae Waters (District 20) for the House of Representatives. The Chamber believes these candidates are themost business-friendly candidates for State Legislature.Candidates submitted written questionnaires and were interviewed by the Tempe Chamber of Commerce pertaining to statespending limits; tax issues; the budget deficit; and much more. The Chamber’s recommendations were reviewed and discussed bythe Chamber Board in order to choose candidates for the available seats.“We are pleased to endorse these highly-qualified candidates,” said Tempe Chamber President/CEO Mary Ann Miller. “We areconfident that they will be strong representatives of the business community and that their talents and abilities will be valuableassets in fulfilling the Chamber’s objective of promoting the best interests of business.”Wendy Rogers, a native of Kentucky, has been in Arizona for the past 14 years. Rogers was a career Air Force officer and is currentlya small business owner. She was an LD17 Republican precinct committeeman in 2009 and is a member of the Tempe, Scottsdaleand Mesa chambers of commerce.A native of Ohio, Representative McComish has been in the legislature since 2005 and has served as Majority Whip and is currentlyMajority Leader. He is the former president of the Ahwatukee Chamber of Commerce, has served on the City of Phoenix PlanningCommission and has been Chair of the Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committee.Ben Arredondo is a native of Arizona, born in Mesa and raised in Tempe. Arredondo taught at Mesa High School for 28 years, wherehe also coached football and wrestling. While still in the classroom, he served on the Tempe Elementary School Board. Additionally,Arredondo has served on the Tempe City Council for the past 16 years.Write-in candidate Steve May is a successful entrepreneur and community leader. He developed and brought to market manyconsumer food products and is involved with various small businesses today. May has a long history of community involvementand served in the Arizona State House from 1999-2003, where he served for a term as the Chairman of the Ways and MeansCommittee.Bob Robson was born in Brooklyn, NY, but has resided in Arizona for 30 years. He is the owner of a Farmer’s Insurance agency.Robson was vice mayor of Chandler in 2000, chair of the Maricopa County Sports Authority in 2000 and is also on the GreaterPhoenix Economic Council Strategic Policy Committee. He is a former Arizona legislator.Rae Waters, a former community columnist for the Arizona Republic, is originally from New Jersey but moved to Arizona whenshe was 11. She has been a board member of the Kyrene School District since 1998 and was elected to the Arizona House ofRepresentatives in 2008.The Primary election will be held on Aug. 24.The Tempe Chamber of Commerce is a civic-minded business organization with more than 1,000 members representing more than 74,000employees.
