London South Bank University’s <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong><br />
Academy. <strong>The</strong> Academy of Sport, Physical Activity<br />
and Wellbeing has been developed to link together<br />
all the sports related units, both academic and non<br />
–academic, within the University and also external<br />
partners including <strong>English</strong> <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Association</strong><br />
(<strong>ETTA</strong>) and the Sport England funded Central London<br />
Proactive Partnership and core services.<br />
By improving the sport and exercise infrastructure at<br />
the University, the Academy aims to develop London<br />
South Bank as a centre of excellence for sport in the<br />
capital. At present, the University has elite sports<br />
scholarship programmes linked with local community<br />
clubs for <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong>.<br />
Talented athletes at the University can apply for<br />
scholarships and bursaries up to the value of £3,000,<br />
which can be put towards training and competition<br />
expenses and can include free access to the University<br />
sports facilities and sport science support.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>English</strong> <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Association</strong> is the<br />
Governing Body of <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong>. Brian Spicer is the<br />
face of <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong> in London, as London Region<br />
Development Manager. Goals are to develop a<br />
pathway from schools, youth clubs, further education,<br />
and Premier <strong>Table</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong> Clubs, accredited to<br />
Clubmark, to London South Bank University.<br />
Aims are:<br />
• Achieve a network of high quality, accredited<br />
clubs with capacity to grow participation<br />
• Achieve a network of high quality specialist<br />
facilities<br />
• Train and support a network of volunteers,<br />
officials, organisers and helpers to sustain and<br />
develop table tennis at all levels<br />
• Provide entry routes,competition, coaching,<br />
and leadership opportunities for life time<br />
involvement<br />
• Develop table tennis in the workplace<br />
• Assist with strategic, multi –layered, and fully<br />
integrated brand marketing and strategy<br />
• Assist a single unified pathway that helps<br />
player development<br />
• Add value to the Whole Sport Plan.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Jack Petchey Foundation was established in<br />
1999 to support young people aged 11 –25 living<br />
in London and Essex. <strong>The</strong> aim of the charity is to raise<br />
young people’s aspirations, enable them to achieve<br />
their fullest potential and contribute to society. Jack<br />
Petchey OBE believes that engaging in sports like<br />
table tennis helps young people to develop physically<br />
and socially.<br />
