London South Bank University’s Table Tennis
Academy. The Academy of Sport, Physical Activity
and Wellbeing has been developed to link together
all the sports related units, both academic and non
–academic, within the University and also external
partners including English Table Tennis Association
(ETTA) and the Sport England funded Central London
Proactive Partnership and core services.
By improving the sport and exercise infrastructure at
the University, the Academy aims to develop London
South Bank as a centre of excellence for sport in the
capital. At present, the University has elite sports
scholarship programmes linked with local community
clubs for Table Tennis.
Talented athletes at the University can apply for
scholarships and bursaries up to the value of £3,000,
which can be put towards training and competition
expenses and can include free access to the University
sports facilities and sport science support.

The English Table Tennis Association is the
Governing Body of Table Tennis. Brian Spicer is the
face of Table Tennis in London, as London Region
Development Manager. Goals are to develop a
pathway from schools, youth clubs, further education,
and Premier Table Tennis Clubs, accredited to
Clubmark, to London South Bank University.
Aims are:
• Achieve a network of high quality, accredited
clubs with capacity to grow participation
• Achieve a network of high quality specialist
facilities
• Train and support a network of volunteers,
officials, organisers and helpers to sustain and
develop table tennis at all levels
• Provide entry routes,competition, coaching,
and leadership opportunities for life time
involvement
• Develop table tennis in the workplace
• Assist with strategic, multi –layered, and fully
integrated brand marketing and strategy
• Assist a single unified pathway that helps
player development
• Add value to the Whole Sport Plan.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in
1999 to support young people aged 11 –25 living
in London and Essex. The aim of the charity is to raise
young people’s aspirations, enable them to achieve
their fullest potential and contribute to society. Jack
Petchey OBE believes that engaging in sports like
table tennis helps young people to develop physically
and socially.
