Teacher Involvement in the DiplomaExamination Process<strong>High</strong>-quality diploma examinations are the product of closecollaboration between classroom teachers and Alberta Education.Classroom teachers from across Alberta are involved in manyaspects of diploma-examination development, including thedevelopment of raw items; the building, reviewing, andadministering of field tests; and the reviewing of diplomaexaminations.Alberta Education values the involvement of the teachers and oftenasks school jurisdictions for the names of teachers who are interestedin being involved. Teachers who are interested in developing rawitems or building and/or reviewing field tests are encouraged to asktheir principals to submit their names, through proper channels, toLearner Assessment. The list of teachers interested in these aspectsof the development process remains open all year long, and teachersare welcome to have their names submitted at any time.Other opportunities to be involved, such as field testing, havespecific closing dates. General dates to be aware of include:September <strong>2009</strong>February <strong>2010</strong>Registration for field tests to be administered inDecember <strong>2009</strong> or January <strong>2010</strong>Registration for field tests to be administered inMay or June <strong>2010</strong>Periodically we send out information to those <strong>Physics</strong> <strong>30</strong> teacherswho are on our contact list. These items are designed to assess <strong>Physics</strong> <strong>30</strong>outcomes mandated in the <strong>Physics</strong> 20–<strong>30</strong> Program of Study, 2007.Any teacher interested in using these written-response items forformative assessment in the classroom should contact LauraPankratz, the <strong>Physics</strong> <strong>30</strong> examination manager, atLaura.Pankratz@gov.ab.ca.1
