<strong>TEAMWORK</strong>MAKING HISTORY HAPPEN TODAYLEADING THE TEAM WITH AMBITIONIn November 1998, Michael K. Jeanes was elected to the office of the Clerk of the Superior Courtby the voters of Maricopa County. He was re-elected to the Office to serve additional four-yearterms in November 2002, 2006, and 2010.DutiesAs the Clerk, Michael is the official record keeper and fiduciary agent for SuperiorCourt and responsible for leading an organization of 685 employees, supporting154 judges and commissioners, serving a constituency of more than four million,and guiding an Office that operates in one of the fastest growing and largestcounties in the nation. In the past 10 years, Maricopa County experienced a24.2 percent increase, according to the 2010 Census.FocusMichael is a strong advocate for high quality customer service. He hasimplemented numerous measures to improve service during his tenure. He attendsall new employee orientation classes to discuss its importance to the new staffmembers, conducts monthly meetings with employees to listen to their ideas onhow the Office can improve service, and he regularly communicates in person andvia publications with those who interact with the Office. In addition to an awardwinningwebsite, he offers Facebook and Twitter so customers can electronicallyinteract with the Office. A significant step Michael is taking to improve serviceis implementing the Electronic Court Record (ECR). eFiling is a major part ofthe ECR initiative, which has greatly increased efficiencies and provides furtherconvenience for customers and the court. Michael has also introduced severalother technological advancements as part of the ECR goal, many of which arementioned in this annual report. Michael’s focus on service is well-balancedbetween utilizing modern technology with old-fashioned friendly professionalism.ServiceMichael’s desire to serve is also reflected in his professional and communityinvolvement, which extends to membership in more than 20 local and nationalorganizations. He is a former president of the Arizona Association of Countiesand he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Associationof Counties. In 2009, he was appointed by Governor Brewer to the Governor’sInformation Technology Authorization Commission, and last year he wasappointed by the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court to the ArizonaJudicial Council.ExperiencePrior to being the Clerk of the Court, Michaelserved as an Associate Clerk within the Officefor nearly 11 years.
