Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111 has called onthe <strong>Nigerian</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Engineers</strong> to intensify its self-regulatory activities toavert failure <strong>of</strong> engineering infrastructure in the country.He called on the society to use the National Assembly to initiate a legislaturethat would give it the power to have more bite in bringing quacks tobook and sanitizing the practice.He was speaking when he received the President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Nigerian</strong> society <strong>of</strong><strong>Engineers</strong>, Engr. Olumuyiwa Alade Ajibola in his palace as part <strong>of</strong> activities<strong>of</strong> the NSE President’s visit to Sokoto.The Sultan who concurred that “engineering is life” and was the only way toindustrial and economic development <strong>of</strong> the country observed that unlessdue attention was given to the pr<strong>of</strong>essional society in the sector, the countrywould continue lamenting about issues <strong>of</strong> collapse <strong>of</strong> buildings, failed infrastructureand low quality execution <strong>of</strong> engineering projects.“ We must enforce regulatory issues without let or hindrance . Unless we dothat we would keep lamenting and lamentation takes us no where”, SultanAbubakar said.The Sultan stated that government should engage the <strong>Nigerian</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Engineers</strong> in a way that can give the <strong>Society</strong> authority to discipline its membersin government when they go against the tenets <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>ession.The sultan assured the NSE <strong>of</strong> his partnership and support in their pr<strong>of</strong>es-Ajibola CommendsBayelsa Govt foruse <strong>of</strong> indigenous<strong>Engineers</strong>The President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Nigerian</strong> <strong>Society</strong><strong>of</strong> <strong>Engineers</strong>, Engr. WilliamsEbitie Francis and the Secretarythe State Government, ChiefGideon Ekewe , Engr Ajibola said hewas impressed by the use <strong>of</strong> indigenousengineers by the state as thatwas the only way to develop theyoung engineers and to create employmentfor the people.“With engineers placed in the rightplaces and with engineers in the system,success is assured” he said.
