INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Internship Programme of the Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel is an operational-level placement

where hospitality students are able to develop their practical skills and competencies within various

operational areas of the hotel. Placements are available within the following departments:

4

 Front Office

 Reservations

 Sales, Marketing & PR

 Housekeeping

 Meetings & Events

 Food & Beverage

 Kitchen

The programme has a minimum required duration of 6 weeks. During the programme, junior-year

students will be introduced to the world of hotels and will be able to experience the operational

aspects of the hospitality industry. Whether it’s checking a guest in at the Front Office or taking an

order from a customer in the restaurant, students will be challenged to deliver top-of-the-line

service to hotel guests consistent with the quality standards of the Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel.

Moreover, junior-year students can also opt to include more than 1 department or area within their

Internship Programme. This flexibility provides students with the perfect opportunity to experience

the world of hospitality from a range of perspectives (e.g. Rooms division, F&B, Banqueting etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

The responsibilities and tasks of students on the Internship Programme are inherent to the

operations of the hotel and are primarily of a practical aspect. Interns will be expected to have a

hands-on attitude in order to engage with the various departmental tasks. Moreover, students can

expect to engage with more practical tasks, depending on the chosen department(s).

COMPENSATION

Students accepted for the Internship Programme will be remunerated for their Travel Card expenses

(up to 5 zones). The hotel will also provide meals on duty and uniform. Moreover, interns are also

eligible for the hotel’s Friends & Family Rate of £70.00 (incl. VAT) plus breakfast. Unfortunately we

are unable to provide students with accommodation but we will try to help you find a suitable

accommodation in London.

REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the Internship Programme:

Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom

Enrolled at an accredited College or University for a degree in hospitality and/or tourism

Internship programme must be part of the students’ degree curriculum

Undergraduates must be in their junior year

High proficiency in English (oral and written)

SUPERVISION

All placement students will be overseen by the respective head (manager) within the department,

along with the General Manager of the hotel. The primary internship coach of the student is the

head of department, with the General Manager having a liaison role between the intern, head of

department and the educational institution. The respective head of department will be responsible

5

for coaching the intern on a daily-basis and conducting the performance evaluations. The internship

evaluations are to be held during the mid-period and final week of the internship. An Internship

Assessment Form will be used for both evaluations. However, an evaluation form from the interns’

educational institution can also be used instead if agreed on prior to the internship programme. The

General Manager will be involved during initial internship interviews and in the event of a dispute

between the involved parties.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Upon receipt of your application, we will assess your credentials and motivation for an operational

internship at the hotel and contact your University or College with the results. Prospective students

will be invited for an interview with the General Manager and/or a respective Head of Department.

Students outside the UK will be invited for a Skype or telephone interview instead. In addition,

students are encouraged to apply well in advance (2 to 3 months), as placement opportunities are in

high demand.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES

“I had the opportunity to work in this hotel and I really enjoyed it. First, it has been useful for

my curriculum vitae because I know how to work in a hotel now, especially in the reservation

department. And at the reception, so I can get a job in my town easier. Moreover, I really

improved my English here, indeed now I’m more natural and fluent in speaking. Secondly,

when I started working here I was so shy but then the staff made me feel at ease. I’m so

happy because I got to know wonderful people here, who are very kind and friendly, always

helpful although they were very busy. I wish one day I’ll come back here and work again!”
