Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club SecretaryGood evening everyone. Welcome back toWoodstock Park after the summer break.Our visitors are Hastings United. Welcometo their players, officials and supporters anda welcome also to this evenings match officials.It seems to me that the close season is gettingshorter and shorter. It really does notseem three months ago that we played ourlast league game of 2014-15 againstMerstham. This was a 3-1 defeat against ateam that was promoted through the playoffs. Well deserved as I think Mersthamwere the best team we played last season.That was only our third defeat in the lastfourteen matches.Nick has managed to retain all the playerswho finished the season so successfully.Unfortunately though a number of key playersmay be missing today because of holidays.Details of Sittingbourne’s squad forthe new season can be found later in theprogramme.Hastings Utd, for them, had a bad seasonand will be keen to put that behind them assoon as possible. They have signed a numberof players to help them with this quest.Amongst them are Jack Harris from FavershamTown, Max Hollobone from EastbourneTown, Sam Crabb has returned tothe club and Zac Attwood has also returnedto the Pilot Field from Margate.We have made a few ground improvementsduring the summer which will hopefully improvethe spectator experience. One of thebiggest complaints we had was the siting ofthe main stand. It had to be put behind thegoal because of planning considerations.However, moving the small stand to in frontof the gym was allowed and that is what wehave done populating it with 53 seats. Withthat and the main stand we now have seatingfor 190. Hopefully by the time thismatch is played we will have some of thepath open at the opposite side of theground. This will be lengthened when wehave the time and resources.The big news of course is the announcementmade by the Kent Science Park thatthey are to provide new facilities for theclub. The KSP has a 20 year plan to provide300 to 400 houses /flats. The area wherewe at present located would be convertedinto a village green environment.The first phase is to relocate us and theWoodstock Club. The initial proposal is toconvert the existing gate house ( at thebottom of the hill and the main entry pointinto the science park) into changing rooms.The ground would also include the at presentwheat field at the bottom of the hill. Aninitial plan is to build tiered seating built intothe slope. The pitch would be to the latestartificial spec. The existing modularmetal stands and the floodlights (none ofwhich are more than five years old) wouldbe moved to the new location.Negotiations have only just begun. OurChairman and Helen Brown are attendingmeetings on ours and Woodstocks behalf.The architects and planners are very receptiveto our requirements.The Council and its leader as well as our localMP, Gordon Henderson, are supportingthe plans.Hopefully there are exciting times ahead forour club.Finally, I am sad to report the death of twopeople who had Sittingbourne very much toheart. The first was a supporter, KevinFulton, who had had more than his fairshare of health troubles in his short life butwho loved coming to watch the Brickies.The second was our former manager,Hughie Stinton. More on Kevin and Hughiein a later programme.

Hastings UnitedA BRIEF HISTORYHastings United Football Club was founded in 1894and, until the 1985/86 season, were playing in theSussex County League. The club has previously played underthe banner of Hastings & St.Leonards and, until the2003/04 season, played under the name of HastingsTown.The club joined the Sussex County League in 1921 and intheir first season finished runners-up to Worthing.The club joined the Sussex County League again in1952 finishing second in Division Two in the 1959/60season. After changing the name to Hastings Town, and inthe 1979/80 season, clinched the Division TwoChampionship and won the divisional cup. The followingseason, the club won the County League Cup. The1984/85 season was to be the last as a member of theSussex County League. Following the decision of the thenHastings United to cease trading, Town applied for membershipof the Southern League and were elected to theSouthern Division. At the same time, the club negotiated along term lease with Hastings Borough Council for the PilotField Stadium.The 1984/85 season had seen Hastings United strugglingagainst relegation from the Premier Division and it was acombination of the last day of the season results—Unitedbeating Welling United 2-1 and Crawley Town doing theU's a big favour by beating Witney Town - that saw thatPremier Division spot retained by the narrowest margin.Having done the business on the pitch, it was to be offfieldmatters that caused the demise of Hastings United inJune 1985, when financial problems became insurmountableand the club ceased trading.Following the demise of United, Town applied to join theSouthern League. Peter Sillett was to return to The PilotField, where he had enjoyed great success managing HastingsUnited, and declared that it would take about threeyears to put together a promotion winning side.Everything fell into place in the 1991/2 season and theyheaded the Beazer Homes League Southern Division tablefor virtually the whole campaign, leaving Weymouth, HavantTown and Sittingbourne to fight over the runners-upspot.Peter Sillett was dismissed in December 1991, as theside struggled at the wrong end of the table due to a lackof goals. Dean White was appointed as manager and successfullysteered Town to safety.Town were to play Premier Division football for the nextsix years.Lottery winner Mark Gardiner became involved with theclub at the start of the 1997/98 season, but success on thepitch was frustratingly hard to attain. Garry Wilson wasdismissed after an FA Trophy defeat at home to Bath Cityand cousins Terry and Dean White took over, leading theside back to the Sussex Senior Cup final where they prevailed2-1 against Burgess Hill Town.By the end of 1999, Town were in turmoil, havingresigned from the Southern League, with the budgetslashed, and players leaving, Town were placed intoadministration and the Southern League refused toaccept an attempt to withdraw the resignation. Anappeal to retain Town's Premier Division status wasunsuccessful But a final effort by a local consortiumwas to be successful at the very last moment andHastings Town Football Club was saved.Town kicked off the 1999/2000 season in the EasternDivision. George Wakeling was appointed as manager earlyin the 2000/01 season, following Dean White's moveinto the Nationwide League with Brighton & Hove Albion.Town were unbeaten until mid-April, and the title andpromotion were guaranteed so the club was back playingDr Martens League Premier Division football,a nd enjoyeda maiden trip to the first round of the FA Cup, following astunning 5-0 replay victory at Conference side KetteringTown in the final qualifying round. A 1-0 defeat at StevenageBorough, also from the Conference, ended United'sinterest in the competition, however the club was relegatedto the Eastern Division.Chairman Mick Maplesden and George Wakelingresigned at the end of the 2002/3 season Steve Lovell takingover as manager, but on a drastically reduced budget,and the club avoided relegation.The club switched to the Ryman League Division Onefor the start of the 2004/05 campaign. After a good startthere was a dip in league form followed leading to SteveLovell leaving. Neville Southall was appointed and the clubfinished in eleventh place.The 2005/06 saw Southall and the entire managementteam leave. Player Nigel Kane taking over after sharing themanager role.The U's began the 2013/14 season as title favourites, JohnMaggs was appointed manager at the end of August 13but Maggs was sacked in January and Terry White tookover for his second spell as manager. Two other managerialchanges were made when results continued to disappoint..Towards the end of the 2014/15 season the club changedhands when a new board of Directors was appointed .Gary Wilson was appointed as manager with Danny Bloorjoining as assistant manager, and a new squad was assembledduring the summer months.

Nick’s NotesI write these notes before our first league game of the season away toHerne Bay and our first home game of the new campaign at home toHastings.6 Weeks of preseason and I have to say I am glad to be getting thegames that well and truly matter underway. It’s been a successful preseasonand with a couple of new additions to add to the lads that hadalready signed from last year both Tony and I believe we are strongeras a unit already.To pick a side for the first few games of the season has been a difficultone with 4 of our regulars from last season’s side either away or suspended.This on the other hand gives opportunities to a few of the newsignings to show us what they can do and try to stamp their authorityon our young side and make the shirt their own.Hastings are tipped to be one of the favourites to win the league thisyear and for the size of the club and some of the big name signingsthey have made, they should be playing a couple of leagues higher andI envisage a real tough test.We need to Make Woodstock our fortress and carry on where we leftoff from last year when we were 7 unbeaten. From the Programme editorWelcome to a new season at Woodstock.I start with some very sad news.All at the club were very sorry to hearthat one of our staunchest supporters,Kevin Fulton, has passed away. Wesend our sincere condolences to Ken,Kevin’s dad, and family. Kevin will bemissed. The funeral is on 28th Augustat the Garden of England crematoriumBobbing at 2.00pm.It’s been generally a good pre-seasonwork out with one exception! Howeverthere is every reason to believe that wewill have a successful season, but asusual the one stumbling block is financeso please come to as many games asyou can, and try and persuade at leastone other person to support us and thenwe will be free of our constant worryabout finance. Expense continue to risefor instance official fees have risen toRef = £53, plus travel Assistants £34plus travel. So if anyone wants to sponsorat any game the ref’s or assistantfees we would be grateful and yourname will be in the programme for theseason. Twice a year we have to send afinancial statement to the league andthis year 4 clubs faced a playing embargowhen they hadn't sent theirs, this isnow down to 2. Also some of you willknow of Fanborough’s difficulties. Farnborough’sfirst four games of the seasonhave been postponed by a decision ofThe Football Association after theylodged an appeal to The FA over aLeague decision to require the club topay a £30,000 bond to the League.The league issued this statement on Friday8th August: “The League confirmsthat Farnborough’s opening day trip inthe Ryman Premier on Saturday to VCDAthletic, their home games against HarrowBorough on Monday 10 August andWingate & Finchley on Saturday 15 Au-gust and a Robert Dyas League Cup tieat Cherrywood Road against Lewes onMonday 17 August have been postponed.The Ryman League took the decision tomake an application to suspend the fixturesin the interests of other memberclubs.The FA, the Ryman League and the clubhave agreed that the situation should beresolved as quickly as possible with theappeal set to be heard in the week commencingAugust 17.Ryman League chairman Nick Robinsonsaid: “The initial decision of the Boardwas that no matches would be playedunless the bond was paid in by 10am onThursday morning.“The appeal only went in on Tuesdaynight, but, collectively, the Board stillfelt it sensible to request to the AppealBoard that Farnborough’s matches besuspended until it was all resolved."The match day programme is still evolvingand future additions will include penpics of our players, player sponsorshipopportunities, this time with pics, Brickieslottery results, and any other improvementsI can think of!!!!!Thank you for purchasing this programmeit helps us to keep the clubviable.Finally remember its only the very generousterms that Oakgold have given usthat enables us to sustain football atthis level, so please also consider Woodstockif you are looking for a venue foran event. Match Reports by Tony RicksonSaturday 8th August 2015Ryman League Div 1 SouthHerne Bay 3 Sittingbourne 1 att 267Sittingbourne paid a heavy price for individualerrors as they lost their openinggame of the season in warm seaside sunshine.In my opinion, Sittingbourne were the betterside for most of the game, and evenHerne Bay’s most ardent supporters musthave agreed that a 3-1 win flattered them.But they polished off their chances well,though their third goal only came right atthe end when Sittingbourne were throwingeverything into pressing for an equaliser.With senior players George Crimmen, JonoRichardson, Hicham Akhazzan and SteffWright all missing, Sittingbourne knew fullwell this would be a tough start to the season.Even so, nine of the starting XI were regularsfor at least a good part of last season,with young defender Jack North and midfielddynamo Jack Beecroft the only twomaking their competitive debuts for theclub.Sittingbourne started well enough andHerne Bay hadn’t had a look-in when theyunexpectedly grabbed a 14th minute lead.It came following a free-kick given againstMiles Cornwell, a decision I thought was ashocker as the Sittingbourne player simplystood still while his opponent climbed allover him. The initial danger was clearedbut the ever-dangerous Steven Ita fired aloose ball back across goal. Keeper AdamMolloy dived out to save but couldn’t holdthe ball, or divert it to safety, and Bay’sCutts reacted quickest to score from closerange, with Molloy appealing in vain foroffside.Sittingbourne worked hard to get back incontention and Harry Smith raced clear ona Tom Brunt long pass over the top onlyfor Bay keeper Delo to save well to his left.Bay got a crucial second goal just beforehalf-time, again without any pressure orputting together anything in the way ofthreatening moves.Poor North, who up till then had appearedcalm and composed on his debut, gotcaught in two minds while deciding whetherto clear or pass back and was caught inpossession by James Turner, who went onto shoot past Molloy.Sittingbourne showed what neat footballingbuild-ups could do when they gotback to 2-1 five minutes after half-time.Brunt combined well with Adam Williamsto race into the penalty area, and pulledthe ball back for Beecroft to sidefoot intothe far corner. Manager Nick Davis hastipped Beecfoft to get 10-15 goals thisseason, so that’s one under his belt andreward for an industrious and intelligentperformance.Molloy made a good save to keep his teamin it but it was predominantly one-waytraffic up the slope towards the Bay goal.Cornwell got the ball in the net but the refereehad already blown for a foul, Beecroftclipped a free-kick over the bar, OliBankole and lively sub Fred Obasa bothhad efforts deflected wide, and Bay keeperDelo punched one of a number of cornersback over his own bar.It was all Sittingbourne and their dominationlooked like forcing them an equaliserright up until the 90th minute. It was thenthat Bay sub Phillip was brought down onthe edge of the area by Billy French in aquick breakaway. Again the free-kick produceda scramble, again Molloy pulled off agood diving save, but again it was Cuttswho got to the loose ball unopposed toround off the scoring from close range.With Molloy once more appealing unsuccessfullyfor offside!So a losing start to the season but a decentperformance by Sittingbourne, whoshowed good determination to battle backfrom two-down, and prove they’ve enoughabout them to win more than they lose inthe weeks and months to come.Next up is Sittingbourne’s first home gameof the season, on Tuesday night. This shocking news has ledTonbridge to begin an initiative “Football fightback”.”The statistics are truly shocking with, in this country, 12 sudden deaths a week,600 a year, in the danger age group of 14 to 35.Italy tests all young athletes and has reduced these types of death by 89% overa ten year period. TheChairman’sColumnThe start of a new season always comes around quickly and for clubsat this level it is time to look back and see if we are at a better startingpoint than last year or the year before.I am pleased to say I think we are.The possibility of a new ground with all weather facilities is excitingand I will keep everyone informed of developments throughout theyear.We have lost our ground share friends Woodstock Sports which is verysad indeed but David Brown continues to build a youth structure whichwe hope will help with our clubs overall development.As soon as last season ended our committee set about improving theground. What a fantastic job they have done and I thank them all fortheir sterling efforts.Nick has done a great job stabilising the team and it's great to seegood players staying with us. Hopefully we can have a good seasonand maybe a cup run again for us all to enjoy.The supporters spoke to me more last season than the year before.Long may it continue as I try to help the club achieve the success itsloyal support deserves.We do have great support home and away and all of you are potentialmarketing managers for us. Pre SeasonEight pre-season games were played and everything was going great until we cameup against Erith & Belvedere and in particular Alfie May who created havoc againstus in a game that was our only defeat in those games. Overall though we had animpres-sive goal tally of 24 against 15. The 8 games included 3 teams at our level,all of whom we defeated.
