had been made productive and was repopulated, but religious toleration ceased. Even <strong>the</strong> rights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Reformed<br />
who made up <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> population were severely curtailed.<br />
Records show that Johann Jacob <strong>Stutzman</strong> first took a job as “H<strong>of</strong>bestander” (farm manager) at <strong>the</strong><br />
Forbacher farm in Krottelbach, Germany (1666-1673); <strong>the</strong>n o<strong>the</strong>r jobs as a public recorder <strong>of</strong> baptisms; as estate manager<br />
to her Highness, <strong>the</strong> widow, Anna Juliana (wife <strong>of</strong> Duke Friedrich <strong>of</strong> Zweibrucken) – <strong>of</strong> Forbach (near Neunkirchen 1666-<br />
1673); <strong>the</strong>reafter as farm manager (H<strong>of</strong>bestander) at Krottelbach, Operant Lichtanberg.<br />
Three subsequent generations lived in <strong>the</strong> Ottweiler, Germany area (current state <strong>of</strong> Saarland). Even today<br />
Johann “Friedrich” <strong>Stutzman</strong>’s home can be visited in Steinbach (across <strong>the</strong> river from Ottweiler) at No. 327 Strasse<br />
Neum Spitalgasse. Fred <strong>Stutzman</strong> (born 26 December 1794 in Steinbach Germany – died 29 August 1843 at 194 Elm<br />
Street, Buffalo NY) was <strong>the</strong> first descendant (6 th generation) to leave Germany (about 1838) arriving in <strong>the</strong> United States<br />
through <strong>the</strong> port <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia to Buffalo, New York.<br />
