“We launched the ‘Eat Smart, Be Smart’

campaign because we want kids to experience

really good, fresh-tasting food. We are roasting,

sautéing, and braising. When I was growing

up, I never had a chef cooking for me.”

— Kirk Conrad, executive chef, at the newly

designed BPS Café at the Mario Umana Middle

School Academy in East Boston

Working with partners in 35 low-income communities

the same chance to grow and thrive.

“All good organizations do good things, but

working with Project Bread has enabled me to

see and experience a vision, a scope of services,

and a respect for hungry people that I find

uniquely inspiring. . . . I can say that, as a board

member, individual contributor, and Heart &

gives me a deeper belief that, working

together, we can end hunger in Massachusetts.”

“Since the very first ‘Super Jam’ back in 1995, JAM’N 94.5 has helped raise

awareness and donations well over $375,000 for Project Bread. As we prepare

for each year’s Walk for Hunger and Monster Jam concert, we remember

why we partner with Project Bread. The blood, sweat, and tears put in

each and every day by the Project Bread staff, volunteers, and local community

members make it an honor to be a part of each and every year.”

Heart & Sole Walkers

Raised over $1.4 Million in Total

Photo © Todd Lehman

“The first year I walked, I did it with a friend —

just to see if we could walk 20 miles. We did it,

but we didn’t feel right walking without raising

money. I decided I would not walk unless I had

people to sponsor me. I have been walking ever

since, and that was seventeen years ago!”

— Joan Benton, 55, Heart & Sole Walker, Chelsea

Heart & Sole Walkers are a group of dedicated

participants who raise a minimum of $500

for each Walk. In 2007, Heart & Sole Walkers

raised over $1.4 million to relieve and eliminate

hunger in Massachusetts.

A charitable bequest will change the lives of hungry people

in Massachusetts and demonstrate your commitment

for years to come. Plan for your future and make a

lasting statement that relief from hunger should

be a right not a privilege.

Our mission is to alleviate,

prevent, and ultimately end hunger

in Massachusetts.

We strive to make emergency food

accessible to those who would otherwise

go hungry; to educate, mobilize,

and empower people through The

Walk for Hunger and other avenues

of action; to research and develop

innovative solutions to end hunger;

and, in partnership with others, to

advocate freedom from hunger across

the Commonwealth.

Because of the

extraordinary support Project

Bread receives from the community

through generous donations of time,

goods, and services, we are able to keep

our overhead expenses low. As a result,

those who give to Project Bread know

that the money they contribute goes

where it is needed most . . . to

feed the hungry.
