Captains Tanner Lopez, Clay Davis, Cal Lewellyn, Scotty Krantz, and Michael Lagestee led the team onto the field through the tunnel of red created by a sea of CAL students. Eastern won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball hoping to break a 2 game losing streak. The first quarter saw both teams trying to find their rhythm on offense. The Centurions were able to force two turnovers with the first being a fumble recovered by John Harvie and the second an interception by Clay Davis that gave the Centurion offense the ball on their own 22 yard line. Austin Carr and the offense took advantage of the turnover going 78 yards on 2 plays. The first play was a 13 yard completion from Carr to Cal Lewellyn and the second play saw Tanner Lopez take the ball 65 yards for the games first TD. After the extra point conversion by Eric Quinton the score is 7-0 CAL. Centurions Marched 80 yards for the second score. Carr was 4 for 4 passing on the drive with the first completion hitting Nick Weaver for 40 yards down the side line. Austin followed that a with 10 yard pass to Clay Davis, a 9 yard completion to Cal Lewellyn. Anteneh Thompson then adds a 13 yard run and two plays later Carr hits Clay Davis for the 13 yard touchdown. Quinton makes the score 14-0 CAL. With the entire CAL student section cheering the team, Eastern is only able to return Daniel Lee’s Kick 9 yards as Nick Weaver tackled Suge Wyche at the 19 yard line. Two plays later Clay Davis recovers a fumble giving the offense great field position at their won 14 yard line. On the next play Carr rolls out and hits Milton Wright for his first high school TD. Quinton’s extra point is good and CAL goes in to the half up 21-0. CAL Student body continues demonstrate who has the most school spirit to start the second half. Milton Wright returns the opening kick of the second half 90 yards to give the offense first and goal form the 5 yard line. Tanner Lopez goes 5 yards for the score on the next play. Quinton’s extra point is good. 28-0 CAL Eastern turns the ball over on their next two possessions. The first an interception by Cody Morton and the second a pick Six by Cal Lewellyn who returns it 31 yards to put the Centurions up 35-0. Eastern is able to score late in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 35-7. After an 18 yard kickoff return by Lopez the offense drives 68 yards on 7 plays capped off by an 8 yard Touchdown run by Tanner Lopez for the game’s final Touchdown. Final score Cal 42 Eastern 7. Special teams – Daniel Lee and Eric Quintin continue the excellent job sharing kicking duties. Milton Wright 1 kick return for 90 yards. Defense - Jake Paulson 11 tackles and 3 sacks, Clay Davis 10 tackles 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery, Cade Sparrow 9 tackles and 1 sack, Logan Young 8 tackles and Nicholas Olsolfka and Scotty Krantz each with 8 tackles. Offense - Passing, Austin Carr 9 of 13 for 114 yards and 2 TD passes; Rushing- Tanner Lopez 132 yards, Milton Wright 53 yards; Receiving Nick Weaver 40 yards, Clay Davis 33 yards, 1 TD , Cal Lewellyn 24 yards, Milton Wright 14 yards 1 TD. On Saturday, the Lady Centurions showed they will be in contention to accomplish that goal. The team raced to 13th in the very competitive season opening Tiger Run, led by All-State runners Clara Lynch & Madalyn O'Dea, who both medaled, placing 10th & 16th respectively. Another key runner from last year, sophomore Morgan McIntire, placed next for the team, closely followed by first year runner Jessica Wellum. Newcomer Jenna Barker completed scoring for the team. The boys team effort was led by an outstanding run and PR by Steven Ott. His time of 17:27 earned 40th place. Team scoring in the 27th place effort, was filled out by two veterans - Samuel Hazelip & Brendan Sullivan and two first year runners - Jack-Harold Enyeart & Charles Austin Sams. John Patterson, 24:55 The week began with the Fern Creek Relays, which is a change of pace from the typical 5000 meter cross country race. Runners pair up into 2-person relays, with each person running three 1 mile legs. Christian Academy had two relay teams place high, earning award shirts for their performances. Clara Lynch & Madalyn O'Dea paired up to complete the 6 mile distance in 37:38 and finish an outstanding 6th place. Steven Ott & Brendan Sullivan combined to run 33:33 and place 17th. 3
