Self-Marketing Tips

• Do your homework before (not after) you select target employers.

• Look for good matches (not just good employers).

• Package (but don’t false package) yourself.

• Don’t package yourself into the wrong job.

• Resist traditional lures (money, prestige, etc.).

• Avoid long lines (network into the side door).

• Build your resume with brand-name name employers.

• Establish and cultivate a large network.

• Become a high performer, i.e., become more desirable!

• Document accomplishments as they happen.

• Avoid gatekeepers (screeners).

• Dress for success.

• Seek information rather than seek a job.

• Follow up better than your competition.

• Do not trust your gut instincts without data verification.
