A Note from the Director… As I settle into my new role as Director of Advancement, I think about all the wonderful achievements Cathedral Prep has made over the years, and I feel truly honored to be an integral part of this great school. Goals have been reached, challenges have been met and most of all, dreams have been realized. This would not be possible without the support of our alumni, administration, faculty and staff, parents, past parents and friends of Cathedral Prep. We are blessed to have the most loyal and generous donors imaginable. Looking to the future with a vision that is full of opportunity and growth, we see success and continued accomplishments in all areas of Cathedral Prep. The future is now, and it lies in each and every one of our students who walk these tiled floors and marbled halls as I once did. So, how do we secure the future of Cathedral Prep? The answer is multifaceted, although with one underlying consistent factor…to pursue the mission. Rest assured that the mission of Cathedral Prep is as strong and vibrant as it was in 1921. It is this commitment that will allow us to continue to be successful in developing men of vision in spirit, mind, and body. Our students take the pursuit of their mission very seriously. They do this on a continual basis as they strive to live up to the profile of a Rambler. Men of Prep work to develop the following qualities of spirituality, intellectual competence, self-discipline and community awareness. The environment that exists in the school today is one that nurtures and enhances all of these fine qualities. As we reflect back and think about the traditions that have been maintained and goals that have been achieved, it is reassuring to know that Cathedral Prep continues to be a cutting-edge college preparatory school. We are proud to ERIE GIVES DAY 2011 REPORT On Erie Gives Day 2011, the Erie Playhouse ranked announce that 109 donors made a gift amount to Cathedral received ($12,418). Prep. Our 2012 goal is 200 d The event ran for 12 hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On that day, the Erie Community Foundation matched a percentage of 9.1% for each donation that was made to Cathedral Prep. Collectively our donors contributed over $17,000 to Cathedral Prep! One hundred and thirty-three organizations received donations from states other than PA. The top three were: Kanzius Foundation (32), Mercyhurst University (27) and Cathedral Prep (23). The total amount raised for the charities included a $100,000 match provided by The Erie Community Foundation and a $50,000 match provided by GE Transportation. We would like to thank those who took the time to make a gift to help us to continue to transform the lives of our students! Advancement Team Welcomes a New Member Mike Krahe ’00 Mike Krahe ’00 recently joined the Advancement team as Annual Fund Manager. Mike is a graduate of Mercyhurst College where he received a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Business. Prior to his appointment, he served as Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Coordinator) at Lake Erie College ’07-’11 and as Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Line) at Mercyhurst College ’05-07. Outside of his annual fund duties, Mike coaches the varsity defensive line at Prep. He and his wife Valerie have two children, Carolina (6) and Kendall (2). Mike is thrilled to be back in the hallowed halls of his alma mater. He said, “I am proud and honored to be back at Cathedral Prep as the Annual Fund Manager. The values and beliefs I learned at Cathedral Prep have stayed with me throughout my life and have made me into the person I am today.” Looking to make a big difference in a student’s life in a short period of time? Mary, Queen of Prep Grotto Blessed at All-School Mass Mr. Bill Mullen and Mr. Larry Krasinski ‘58 (aka “Mr. K”) There is a new addition to Dollinger Field. Tucked away in the west corner is a beautiful grotto donated by the David Strasser family (David, Terri, David Jr., and Alexandra). The grotto is dedicated to Mary, Queen of Prep in honor of teachers Joann Mullen and Mr. Larry Krasinski ‘58. This grotto is a living legacy in honor of these teachers who dedicated their lives to Cathedral Prep. On September 13, Varsity Head Football Coach Mike Mischler started a new tradition after the games where the team and parents can gather to say a prayer in front of the grotto immediately following the game. This will not replace the team stopping at St. Peter Cathedral steps for games played at Vets stadium. Father Scott Jabo, President, is grateful to those who made the grotto possible. He said, “Mary has long been an important figure in the faith life of the school. This grotto will symbolize and remind us of her loving presence and motherly care whenever we attend an event at the CPEC. Mary, Queen of Prep, pray for us!” The stones used for the grotto are from St. John’s Kanty Prep. Father Scott Jabo blessed the grotto at the end of the All-School Mass on September 11. The students of Cathedral Prep and Villa Maria Academy gathered together and wore shirts printed with this year’s school theme-“Settle for Nothing but Excellence.” Also, special thanks to the Class of 1971 for their special donation in memory of Coach Anthony Zambroski ’48.
