WACE students as scheduled below:
Date
Course
Sept 5
This will be provided by Mr C Watson. These courses provide students with a great
advantage as exam type questions are attempted which are based on the examiner’s
reports from previous years. There is also an emphasis of how to tackle questions by helping
the students to mine the information in the WACE Mathematics exams. Finally Mr Watson
incorporates the use of the Classpad calculators as he is the author of many books on
its use. We have had these revision courses for the past five years and students have
really benefited from them. The above courses have been heavily subsidised by Secondary
Pathways and Transit department.
Following careful research the Maths department has also subscribed to the use of
Mangahigh, an online mathematics website used worldwide, for Year 9 Pathway 2 and 3
students and Year 10 Pathway 3 students.
Serpentine Music Camp
On Wednesday 24 July, 68 music students set out on an intrepid journey to conquer the
dangerous and challenging band pieces they had been given.
The start of the musical voyage began with the students arriving at school to load the bus
and the trailer with musical instruments and expansive bags. The hour long drive through
mountainous wastelands ended us up at Serpentine Camp. On arrival we got straight into
demanding rehearsals for senior, junior, swing and Year 9 contemporary bands, where we
attempted to complete and perfect the huge pieces, which had been placed upon us.
During the free time which was sparse and far between, Mr Schmidt organised fun team
building games which helped the students come together as one musical force with a
common goal; to master the monumental scores which had been entrusted to them. Free
time also consisted of entertaining basketball games in the gym and study for the Year 12s.
On the second night, the Year 12s organised a games
night which was full of musical madness and murder.
The students had to figure which Year 12 had committed
the atrocious crime of murdering a fellow Year 12 band
member. The students had to complete daring tasks such as
jumping through rings of fire and slaughtering dragons (aka
completing musical quizzes) to get clues off Years 12s and
figure out who the murderer was.
As our journey came to a close, we packed up our messy
dorms and extensive dragon slaying equipment (musical
instruments) and set off back to the land of Como, all having
thoroughly enjoyed our great adventure. We would like to
thank Ms Turner, Mr Forster, Mr Schmidt, Ms Hudson and
Rusty for making band camp so enjoyable and for always
providing good humour and lots of laughs.
