Itemized Equipment to use for lighting

( I still use some of this but mainly use Elinchrom now, but still use all the bits!)

Hot shoe PC sync Socket Adapter with cable-(£6-£8)

You will need one of these leads if your flash

doesn’t have a PC socket.

Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe 60x60cm

( £110)

Lastolite Ezybox 60x60cm kit ( £180)

or you can buy the kit which comes with:

stand.Soft box . Tilt head bracket.extending

handle.carrying cases.

Canon 580 EX II flash approx ( £360)

Any flash can be used though

Lastolite Tilt head bracket with spiggot

( £17)

Extending Handle ( £30)

Manfrotto Nano Stand ( approx. £50)

PC sync cable - ( £8-£10)

1 comes with the PW but it

is good to have back up as they

can fail quickly

Pocket Wizard set Plus II’s

( £310)

To use one flash you will need two PW’s. Individual PW’s are about £190 each

otherwise.

NEW POCKET WIZARDS: New set are

around £440 with 1 - Flex TT5 & 1- Mini

TT1 ( you will need 1 - Mini TT1 with each flash gun)

Lumiquest FXtra Gel System ( LQ121) -

£20

Their are many gels available but this little

kit might be a good starting point.Try the sample

pack from LEE filters to get a gauge as to what

colours you can use!

Radio Triggers for lighting

Pocket Wizard Mini TT1 ( £210)

At the moment they only come for Canon only

This will attach to the hot shoe of the camera

( Nikon fit have just been released)

Pocket Wizard set Plus II ( £320)

To use one flash you will need two PW’s. Individual PW’s are about £190 each

otherwise.

These can only be used for manual flash use

I have also found these for £140 from Hong

Kong. You may be liable for import charges but

when I ordered mine I got them in 4 days and

paid nothing extra. www.onestop-digital.com

Pocket Wizard flex TT5 ( £230)

At the moment they only come for Canon only/ Nikon NOW OUT

This will attach to the flash gun. You will need one of these for every flash you wish to

use.The great thing about these is that you can use them over 250th sec , use them on

ETTL, not just manual!

One stop digital price - £150

Interfit Strobes Hot Shoe & Studio lighting Radio trigger set

( £42)

When using a battery operated flashgun as a studio light there are usually 2 main

considerations: how to mount it and how to trigger it. The Hot shoe and Strobe Flash

Trigger Set from Interfit solves both of these. The receiver unit features a hot-shoe which

not only offers a convenient mounting method for your flashgun, but also provides the

triggering signal. The transmitter unit attaches directly to your camera and a choice of four

radio channels will fire the trigger from up to 30m (100 feet) away in an open area.

Bowens Pulsar Trigger Twin Pack £230

This multifunctional device can be used to trigger flash units, film

and digital cameras and light meters up to 100m. As the Pulsar

units use radio transmission - rather than IR – flashes can be

triggered from around corners, or through walls, and are not

confused by high ambient light situations.

Cactus Wireless Flash Trigger Set V4 $40

A friend of mine bought these from www.gadgetinfinity.com in Hong

Kong.

A great kit for starters for sure. Again it only took a few days to get

here. You may or may not get stung for import charges but at $40

you can’t go wrong.

Extra Receiver - £ 26

All of my big lighting kit was bought from The Flash Centre in Leeds/London. At the end of the day you get what you pay for with radio triggers but some of

them are very cheap and even if they don’t last too long then you can always replace pretty cheaply.
