Hello and welcome to the Hyperdrive Sci-fi & Fantasy Film Festival!

The idea for this festival came out of a realisation that there must be lots of people

out there making science fiction and fantasy films that the majority of people

haven’t seen.

Boy, were we right?

Our window for submissions to Hyperdrive 2015 opened in January 2015 and,

before we closed it in March we’d had 2,315 films sent to us from all around the

In a process that lasted 5 months, the judges whittled this list down to a 200 strong

long-list… and then the arguments started.

Knowing in advance that we only had 2 days in which to show films, we knew that

the list needed to be around 30. Every one of the judges had their favourite and

least favourite films, meaning that the challenge was enormous.

After much shouting, crying and throwing of various (quite heavy) objects at each

other, the films you can see on the following pages were chosen.

Representing the best of the genre, the 34 films are all very different, some light

hearted and some darker and more sinister, we believe that these films will have

you laughing/crying/gripping your chairs during each of the 8 Hyperdrive screenings.

Let’s not forget, the real reason we’re doing this is to raise money for Demelza

House Children’s Hospice. All of the profits from Hyperdrive 2015 will be donated

to help them to continue their great work, making the lives of terminally ill children

and their families just a little bit better.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards,

Tim Tiernan
