A field crew generally has
three or four workers.
Morrison noted that he expects
to have three crews in the field
shortly as business ramps up during
the spring months.
“In the past couple of weeks,
we picked up more than a million
dollars worth of work,” he said.
Morrison believes that Tucson
has finally matured, noting that
“some pretty substantial projects
are being built because people are
looking toward the future. All three
Universities are putting about a
billion dollars into infrastructure,
so they’re doing the right thing in
building now because prices aren’t
going to go down,” he said.
The price of steel has seen
recent steep increases, in the neighborhood
of $150 a ton for structural
I-beams and other large steel, Morrison
noted. However, he believes
that construction will continue to be
good for the rest of the year.

“Tom is a work-wise young
man and can figure things out quickly,”
Morrison said. “At 30 years
old, he’s one of the most intelligent
young men I’ve ever met. He concentrates
on the field work and I do
the estimating for the business.

both Tucson and Phoenix. Bowles’s
brother Greg is vice president and
brother-in-law Vern Palmer is general
manager, both headquartered in
Tucson. The yard in Phoenix is run
by her nephew, Jason Palmer. Thirty
employees staff Aero Rental’s three
locations — the Golf Links location,
2425 W. Curtis, and the Phoenix
yard.
“We’re very fortunate that
we work together well as a family,”
Bowles pointed out. “Each of us has
a niche of things we do best.”
Aero Rental, which has its
roots in Tucson, expanded to Phoenix
in 1981 in the construction and
homeowner rental areas, but eventually
moving into the turf business
there.
“It was a need that had to be
filled,” Bowles said. “A business
can’t stand still, so we’re always
looking for new markets that need to
be developed. We’re pretty adaptable
and we have to be because we’ve
been here for 61 years.”
Bowles considers the connections
and contacts that she makes
through ACT as very important.
