Vision for Hagersville

Hagersville boasts businesses and services for all

needs. Thelocalfarmer’s market is a popular draw in

the County, and is the hub of downtown on market days.

Key downtown buildings, like the CIBC building,

characterize the desired neighbourly feel of the streets.

Streets are green and welcoming, and clearly connect to

the greenway of the old rail line to the north. Clearly

marked crosswalks for pedestrians and protected

laneways support Hagersville’s s role as a community for

all people.”

Big Move 1

Build upon the market square as the heart of the downtown

by extending infrastructure improvements (sidewalks,

streets and street furnishings) to adjacent users.

Impressions:

• More non‐market activities? iii • Lacking presence from street

• Surrounding rear building areas

• No clear circulation routes

• Few comfort amenities

• Function but no “feel”

• Landmark clock feature

GSP Group

Big Move 2

Create enhanced crosswalks to market destinations and fill

gaps between destinations.

Impressions:

• High traffic volumes (trucks)

• Intimidating intersections

• Main Street is divisive

• Key buildings surrounding

main intersection

• Hierarchy of intersections

GSP Group

Big Move 3

Ensure pedestrian connections between existing and new

developments and the market.

Impressions:

• High traffic volumes (trucks)

• Building gaps along the street

• Numerous sidewalk interruptions

• General absence of “green”

• Not a lot of sidewalk/street space

• Little to no streetscape amenities

GSP Group

Big Move 4

Implement strategic green interventions to provide

moments for reprieve and gathering within the area.

Impressions:

• High traffic volumes (trucks)

• Little existing visual interest

• Numerous sidewalk interruptions

• No wayfinding encouraging exploration

• Not a lot of sidewalk/street space
