Centre (BLC) has successfully trained thousands of

Airport Pickup

BLC representatives are available to pick up

students from the airport and transport them to

their accommodation when negotiated ahead

of time. A fee may be payable depended on time

and distance. Please contact BLC for assistance.

BLC does not offer any on-campus

accommodation, however BLC staff offer advice

on accommodation options for overseas

students. Student accommodation options

include: share house (rented room), temporary

(short–term), homestay (stay with host family),

rental (lease of unit/house, may be furnished or

unfurnished) or student accommodation hubs

(Urbanest).

Student Support at BLC

Orientation programs are offered to all new

students allowing each individual to discuss their

situation with their contact offi cer. BLC staff are

dedicated to making new students as

comfortable as possible, as quickly as possible, in

their new environment. Our staff make themselves

available to accompany students to banks,

medical insurance agencies etc wherever

possible to help facilitate this.

Please note; BLC does not offer Child minding

facilities and only accepts enrolments from

students over the age of 18 years.

Cost of Living

The cost of living will vary according to an

individual student’s lifestyle and requirements.

Here is a guide to weekly living expenses in

Brisbane based on a shared 2 bedroom unit.

Please note that these are approximate prices

only to assist in guiding you and costs are shown

in AUD$.

Rent: $160 - $320 per week

Food: $130 (own cooking)

Transport: $15 (weekly bus ticket 2 zones)

Electricity: $10 ($150 per quarter)

Gas: $5 (stove only – if applicable)

For students who wish to purchase a car, costs

can vary from AUD$5000 to AUD$25000 or more

and running costs after purchase are

approximately AUD$100 per week. It is strongly

recommended that students use Brisbane City

Working in Australia

Tax File Number (TFN) - Individuals on a Student

Visa who have commenced their program are

entitled to work part-time for up to 20hrs per week

during the College term and unlimited hours

during holiday periods.

If you intend to work while living in Australia, you

must apply for a TFN. This is a unique number

which helps indentify you in the tax system.

You should apply for your TFN as soon as possible

when you arrive in Australia. You can apply

quickly and easily online at

www.ato.gov.au/individuals. Ensure you have

your passport details available.

Visa Information

from the Sunshine Coast to the North where

Framework (ESOS)

Study Tours

BLC welcomes both individuals and groups of

overseas students to study and travel around

Brisbane on study tours. BLC will assist in creating the

right tour. Study tours may be arranged from one

week to three months on a Visitor Visa or Working

Holiday Visa.

Tours that combine English or business / IT lessons with

a hobbies or interest, for example food and wine,

surfi ng, golf or ecotourism are popular.

Professional development tours may combine study

programs with visits to cultural places.

BLC will assist you in creating the perfect tour for

you. We have study tours for people wanting to

learn English or those who are English-speaking and

want to learn other skills. Tours may last one week to

three months and the amount of academic/ touring

content is determined by you.

We welcome clubs, business groups or individuals

over the age of 18 years.

Participants will require a Visitors Visa or Working

Holiday Visa.

Students Rights and Obligations

WORKING WHILE STUDYING

Students may apply to work

part-time for up to 20 hours per week

on student Visas during most

courses. Please visit

HEALTH INSURANCE

Australia has a special system of

health cover for International

Students called Overseas Student

Health Cover (OSHC). The

Department of Immigration and

Citizenship requires you to maintain

OSHC for the duration of your time

as a student in Australia as

International Students are not

covered by Australia’s national

health program, Medicare. For

further details visit

www.studyinaustralia.gov.au. BLC

staff are able to assist you in this

matter and arrange your health

cover for you. The cost of your OSHC

is in addition to your tuition fees and

will vary depending on length and

type of cover required.

ATTENDANCE AND ACADEMIC

PROGRESS

Students who fail to satisfy visa

conditions relating to attendance or

academic performance are

reported to the Department of

Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS

Brisbane Learning Centre has a full

set of policies and procedures

available for perusal prior to

enrolment. The availability of this

complaints and appeals process

does not remove the right of the

student to take further action

under Australia’s consumer

CREDIT TRANSFER

Please apply to the BLC Offi ce for

credit transfer consideration.

BLC offers all students the

opportunity to apply for National

Recognition of credits gained at

other Australian institutions.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Non-English speakers require a level

of English equivalent to the IELTS

level specied for the relevant course.

Students must submit results of their

IELTS, TOEFL or other exams, or other

evidence of their English prociency.

We reserve the right to internally

assess the student’s English level

upon arrival at the school. If this is

found to be below that declared

upon enrolment, additional training

will be offered at the student’s own

cost.

FEE PROTECTION POLICY

For students studying in Australia, the

student fees are protected against

default of the education provider.

Students’ course fees that are paid

to BLC in advance are protected in

respect of the provisions of the ESOS

Act 2000 and the ESOS Regulations

2001. Please note that any course

extensions granted are not covered

by fee protection.

NATIONAL CODE OF PRACTICE

Brisbane Learning Centre is a

CRICOS-registered training

provider in Australia and has agreed

to observe and be bound by the

National Code of Practice (2007) for

Registration Authorities and

Providers of Education and

Training to Overseas Students.

A summary of the Code is given out

prior to enrolment. A link to the full

document may be viewed on our

website.

PAYMENT OF FEES

All applicable tuition and resource

fees must be paid in full before the

commencement of your

programme. Non-payment of fees is

regarded seriously and BLC will take

steps to obtain the required

payment, including prohibiting

students from class.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

RPL is a process through which a

student seeks academic credit for

relevant skills, knowledge or abilities

gained through formal or informal

education, work or life experience.

Further information on BLC’s RPL

policy can be obtained on request

via the International Offi ce.

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

• A written letter will be required

from any student requesting a

refund.

• Students seeking a refund for

withdrawal from an enrolled course

prior to the offcial starting date will

incur a penalty of AU$1000.00

(administration fee) to cover

administration costs

• Students seeking refunds in the fi rst

two weeks of starting a course will

incur a AU$2000.00 administration

fee. The remaining tuition fee paid

will be returned to the student.

Students Rights and Obligations

• Refunds are not payable after the

initial two weeks of commencing

a course.

• Brisbane Learning Centre’s

dispute resolution processes do not

prevent the student from pursuing

other legal channels.

• Brisbane Learning Centre agrees

to refund tuition fees paid less the

administration fee of AU$250.00

where the student provides certied

evidence that the Australian

Immigration authorities rejected the

application for a student visa.

• Student/s being involved in theft /

equipment damage or misconduct

of an unacceptable level will have

their enrolment cancelled and all

necessary authorities contacted,

(no fees will be returned).

• Students withdrawing from the

course are required to

submit a letter of withdrawal to

management. No refund is

payable if a student withdraws from

a course two weeks after the agreed

commencement date (even if the

student does not commence on the

agreed date).

• Brisbane Learning Centre shall pay

any refund granted directly to the

person who enters into the

contract with Brisbane Learning

Centre about the student, unless the

person gives a written direction to

the Brisbane Learning Centre to pay

the refund to someone else.

• Brisbane Learning Centre shall

provide for refunds to be fully paid in

the same currency in which the fees

were paid, unless payment in that

currency is impracticable.

• Brisbane Learning Centre shall pay

any refunds granted within 4 weeks

of receiving the written request for

the refund.

• If a student becomes a

permanent resident of Australia

during the program no refunds are

payable.

• This agreement, and the

availability of complaints and

appeals process, does not remove

the right of the student to take

further action under Australia’s

consumer protection laws.

• In the case of provider default

(BLC), students are protected by the

provisions of the ESOS Act 2000 and

the ESOS Regulations 2001.

• BLC agrees to refund all money

paid if the offer of a place is

withdrawn (or the course is not

delivered) except where the offer

was made on the basis of

incorrect or incomplete information

supplied by the student. In this case

the student will incur a penalty of

AU$1000.00 (administration fee) to

cover administration costs.

• College will consider the

following exceptional

circumstances as grounds for a

student’swithdrawal from the

program:

(a) Illness or disability

(b) Death of a close family member

(c) Political, civil or natural event

which prevents the full payment of

fees.

DEFERRAL, SUSPENSION AND

CANCELLATION OF ENROLMENT

Deferral, suspension and

cancellation of enrolment

can only occur under very specifi c

circumstances. Please refer to the

appropriate policies in our Student

Handbook for further information.

CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

POLICY - INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Brisbane Learning Centre has in

place a structured approach in

responding to critical incidents

as they occur; and appropriate

training and information resources

for staff.

TRANSFER BETWEEN REGISTERED

PROVIDERS

In accordance with the National

Code 2007, Brisbane Learning

Centre will not seek to enrol a

student wishing to transfer from

another provider prior to the student

completing six months of their

principal program of study, except

in special circumstances. Students

wishing to transfer from Brisbane

Learning Centre before they have

completed six months of their

principal program must apply to the

College. Request for transfer will be

evaluated in line with the College

Transfer between Registered

Providers Policy.

Five Easy

Steps to Enrol

1. Send your Application

Complete the international application form available on our website

(www.blc.com.au) and submit it by email, fax or post to BLC, together with all

relevant supporting documents.

2. Accept Offer of Place

If your application is successful you will receive an offer of place and a copy of

BLC’s written agreement outlining our relevant policies and a copy of the

student handbook. Once familiar with these you are required to sign the

agreement as acceptance of offer.

3. Pay the Fees

Upon acceptance of your offer you will receive an invoice for your tuition fees.

Once you have paid your tuition fees and arranged your Overseas Student Health

Cover (OSHC) you will receive your electronic Certifi cate of Enrolment (eCoE)

and a receipt for your payment.

4. Arrange your Visa

Contact the Australian embassy in your country. For the address of an Australian

embassy in your country see the DIAC website. Visit www.immi.gov.au,

you will need to present your:

• Receipt from BLC

• eCoE

• Offer of Place

5. Pre-arrival

Once your student visa has been granted you will receive welcome

information with further details about your orientation and fi rst day of classes.
