Term 1 Week 9 - Wednesday 27 th March 2013
Hat Parade
Our hat parade starts at 2pm this
Thursday 28 th March. If the weather
is fine, the children will sit in class
groups around the outside of the
basketball court. Parents are
welcome to attend and sit behind
their child’s class. We start the
parade with Year 6 and then
kindergarten. The four remaining
classes join the parade in random
order. After the classes have
participated, we welcome any preschoolers
to join their siblings for a
parade. This then leads to the whole
school parade.
After this, the children move
forward with their seats and the
Easter raffle is drawn. At the
conclusion of the raffle, parents
may take their children home.
Please collect your child from their
classroom, giving time for them to
take their chairs back. Have a happy
and safe Easter break.
ASD and Speech/Language
Courses
Mrs Macdonald, Mrs Hambly and
Miss Slingsby are currently
participating in the Understanding
Autism Spectrum Disorders course.
Mrs Lasserre, Mrs Sawras and Ms
Talbot are completing the
Understanding speech, language
and communication needs course.
Later this year, the teachers will
swap and complete the opposite
course.

Cross Country
We are hosting the Small Schools
Cross Country on Friday 5 th April. As
the track runs around the inside of
the school perimeter, no cars can
enter or leave the school grounds
during the races. You are welcome
to park on the school grounds if you
arrive before 9.30am. At this time,
there will be a block at the front
entrance. No one will be able to
leave until the conclusion or ALL
races- usually around 1.30pm.
If you arrive after 9.30 or need to
leave before the end of the races,
you will need to park in the
surrounding streets. Please don’t
block anyone’s drive ways. The road
between the school and Fredericks
Lane (near the rainforest entrance)
is a private road- please do not park
there at all.
There will be a shop for drinks,
cakes etc and a BBQ on the day. We
hope you can join us.
Student Leadership
On Monday 13 th May, Mrs Latta is
taking the school captains and vice
captains to Sydney for the GRIP
Student Leadership Conference.
The group will travel to Sydney by
plane on Sunday and will return on
Monday evening. This program has
been funded through ELS NP
program.
KidsMatter
Our school, along with Alstonville
PS, Wollongbar PS and Fernleigh PS
was successful in getting a grant for
the introduction of KidsMatter in
our schools. KidsMatter
complements our existing values
program. From the KidsMatter

Childhood is a crucial time for
growing healthy minds. All children
need care and support to develop
and learn. Some children need
additional help to reach their
potential. KidsMatter is a mental
health and wellbeing framework for
primary schools and early childhood
education and care services, and is
proven to make a positive difference
to the lives of Australian children.

Staffing
Mrs Sales started the year with 5
weeks long service leave which she
then extended by two weeks. She
has since extended her leave until
the end of term 1. Mrs Van Nispen
will be teaching RFF for the
remainder of term 1. At this stage
Mrs Sales has not indicated her
plans for term 2.
Ballina Taekwondo
Ballina Taekwondo held their Junior
Championship at the school on
Sunday. What talent we have in our
school community. Riki and Marc
put on a fantastic day where all the
children involved walked away
happy and proud of their
achievements.

Future Netball Stars
Liz Ellis with the TTPS girls netball team.
A group of girls from our school play
netball together as the Shooting
Stars for Lennox Head Netball Club.
The girls were lucky enough to take
part in a Liz Ellis coaching clinic
recently. They were fortunate
enough to meet and receive
coaching from Liz herself. They all
had a fantastic time and are now
raring to go for the netball season.
Money for the Office
All permission notes and money are
to be handed to the classroom
teacher at the beginning of class.

Art Smart 2013

Some of the kids from Year 5 missed
three whole days of regular school
to go to Ballina Public School for Art
Smart. Raelan, Holden, Alex, Lilly
and Carla all went to BPS with pride
and some a bit nervous. It didn’t
matter how good you are – it was
about learning new techniques and
meeting new friends. We played art
related games, learnt how to draw
waterfalls, paint with water colours
and lots more. Mr Hoile from
Clunes Public School was fun and
we had a great time.

Lennox Rugby Club
Looking for boys aged 11 and 12 years to play rugby.
Lennox Head rugby club is looking for boys aged 11 and 12 years to play in the
U12s rugby team.
The team has boys from Tintenbar, Fernleigh and Lennox Head but we need
more players.
Training is every Wednesday 5 – 6pm. Games Friday night.
This team has a professional coach with years of experience.
