“To create, inspire and nurture
excellence in each other.”
Energy Efficiency
The Cypher uses
electrical energy in the
most efficient possible
way. The reflectors are
designed to direct the
illumination to the surface
with no stray light which
translates into wasted
energy. A wide variety of
lamp and ballast systems
gives you more energy
efficient design choices.
The result is
more light with less
energy consumption.
Longevity
AAL manufactures all its
products to have a life
span as long as the
building or space they
illuminate. The primary
material used for all our
products is aluminum to
resist corrosion and the
need for maintenance.
Aluminum will not need
the periodic refinishing
required of steel products
that will eventually rust
and corrode. All our internal
parts and fasteners
are made of aluminum or
stainless steel. The lamp
enclosures are kept dust
free and dry to prevent
light degradation and
maintain a high level of
energy efficiency.
Sustainability
Our products are
developed with recycling
and resource management
in mind.We recycle
all incoming packaging
materials. Our products
are shipped in easy to
recycle packaging
materials. Our state of the
art finishing system uses
eco friendly cleansing and
preparation chemicals that
are harmless enough to
send to the drain without
further processing. Our
powder coating process
eliminates the release of
volatile chemicals into the
atmosphere. The Cypher,
like all AAL products, is
made with renewable
materials such as aluminum
and stainless steel.
Printed on recycled paper.

CYPHER
The Cypher is designed
for wall washing, wall
grazing and illuminating
large spaces. Place a
smooth, even expanse
of light on a surface
without hot spots.
A perfect complement
to the Oculus floodlight,
for directing an
intense focused beam
for highlighting and
accenting.
PRECISION FLOODLIGHTING
INDIRECT LIGHTING
Define with light
The Cypher’s optical
system sets a new
standard for indirect
lighting. The refractor lens
eliminates the hot spot on
the ceiling for soft, even
illumination.
The Cypher’s refractor
lens minimizes glare for
illuminating pedestrian
areas.
ARCHITECTURAL AREA LIGHTING 7
Optical Design
CYPHER
The Cypher solves the problem of the lamp’s exposed,
uncontrolled arc tube design of other luminaires used for
wall washing and indirect lighting.
The Cypher’s specular reflector
provides energy efficiency and a precise
beam pattern, while the optical
glass refractor smooths the direct and
reflected light beams.
The result is very even illumination of
vertical and horizontal surfaces.
Other floodlights suffer from
striations projected by the lamp’s arc
tube. The uncontrolled beam results in
uneven rendering of the surface. The
ratio of minimum to maximum candela
values, which the eye sees, is much
higher due to the “hot spot” created
by the arc tube.
PRECISION FLOODLIGHTING
INDIRECT LIGHTING
Cypher advantage
Compare the performance of the Cypher’s optical design versus a typical floodlight on this twenty five foot high wall. Four hundred
watt metal halide lamps are used for the comparison.
other floodlights
Cypher
At four feet from the wall, the typical floodlight produces a blotchy surface with a fast fall off
of the light. Striations are a result of the lamp and reflector.
At four feet from the wall, the Cypher’s dual optical system produces evenly illuminated
surfaces without the striations or sharp cutoff on the sides.
At twelve feet from the wall, the typical floodlight still projects lamp and reflector images on
the wall. The light levels falls off dramatically.
At twelve feet from the wall , the Cypher produces smooth, even rendering of the wall with a
higher level of usable light.
