ArticleII:Purpose

ThepurposeofClubUltimateFrisbeeistopromotethesportofUltimateFrisbeeontheMaristCollege

campusandtoallowthoseinterestedtoadvancesaidinterestinaninter‐collegiatesettingwith

competitiveplaybetweenschoolsandatconferencesbetweenotherorganizations.


ArticleIII:Membership

Themembershipshallbecomposedof“activeplayers”(ArticleIIIsection5)

Section1A:theclubmembershipwillrecognizeallmembersas“players”intheclub.Anexecutiveboard

willbeestablished(ArticleIV).

Section1B:Theteamwillbechosenfromtheactivemembershipoftheintramuralsportbythecaptains

butfacilitatedbythecoach/facultyadvisor/executiveboard.Theteamwillnotbelimitedbyaspecific

numberwhenunnecessarybutmaybelimitedbytherequirementsoftheplayoftournamentsor

requestsofotherschoolsinordertoaccommodate.Travelarrangementsmayalsolimitthenumberof

playersthatwillbebroughtforawaygames;thiswillalsobedecidedbythecaptainsbutfacilitatedby

thecoach/facultyadvisor/executiveboard.

Section1C:Theteamshallselectbymajorityofitsmembership,twocaptainsfromamongstitsroster.If

nomajorityisreachedthenthecandidateswiththemostvotesshallbeelected.Thecaptainsshallthen

appoint,withfacilitationbutnotnecessarilyapproval,byitscoach/facultyadvisor,anexecutiveboard.

Thesepositionsshallactasliaisonsbetweentheexecutiveboardandtheotherplayersintheclub.All

electionsshallbeannouncedtotheteammembersatleastoneweekpriortothevote.

Section1D:Theteamshallalwaysselecttwocaptains.Thisvoteshalltakeplaceduringthe5 th weekof

establishedplayoftheSpringSemester.Thisistoallowanoverlapperiodinwhichthenewcaptainscan

begintobetransitionedintotheirnewroles.“Newcaptains”areconsidered“captains”atthe

terminationofthespringsemester.Afterelectionsbutbeforetheterminationofthespringsemester

theyareconsiderednon‐votingmembersoftheexecutiveboardasacaptainisconsidered.

Section2A:ThequalificationsfortheclubarethattheplayerhasattendedMaristCollegeasan

undergraduate.Bothgendersareallowedandencouragedtoparticipateinplay.

Section2B:Forthosestudentsthatarenotpresentlyattendingthecollege,theymayonlyparticipatein

tournamentplaythatiswithintheirregionofresidence,asdeterminedbythecaptains,butnotinintra‐


collegeactivitiesandevents.Noexpenseshallbetakenbythecollegetoincludethesemembersin

competitionnorshalltheirinvolvementbartheinvolvementofstudentscurrentlyattendingthecollege.

Section3:Therequiredfeeswillbedeterminedeachyearaccordingtotheclub’sexpensesoff‐setbythe

school’scontributionandfundraising‐‐whichwillbeconductedeachyear.

Section4:Towithdrawfromtheclubteam,thecoach,captains,andclubpresidentmustbenotified.

ResignationoftheclubofficerswillgoaccordingtotheproceduresinArticleVII.

Section5A:Activemembershipentailsattendingallclubpractices,socials,charityandfund‐raising

eventswiththeexceptionofeight(8)excusedandthree(3)unexcusedabsences.

Section5B:Anexcusedabsenceisdefinedasanabsencefrompractice,asocialoracharityor

fundraisingeventwith24hoursnoticegiventoateamcaptainandforavalidexcuse(illness,academics,

familyissues,orissuesofgraveconcern).

Section5C:Anunexcusedabsenceisdefinedasanabsencefrompractice,asocialoracharityor

fundraisingeventwithout24hoursnoticegiventoateamcaptainand/orforaninvalidexcuse(being

someotherissuethanthoselistedinSection5Bofthisarticle).


ArticleIV:Officers

Section1A:Theclubofficerswillconsistofthefollowingpositions:president,vice‐president,secretary,

treasurer,parliamentarian,historianandtwocaptains.Duringthetransitionperiodafternewcaptains

areelected,thesetwonewcaptainsarealsoconsideredmembersoftheboard.

Section1B:Thepresidentwillserveasthechieforganizeroftheclubandwillbetheclub’sofficial

representativetoanyofficialschoolorganization(e.g.OfficeofStudentActivities).Suchfunctionsas

contactingopponents,tournamentofficials,referees,andprospectiveopposition,aretheorganizational

partsoftheclubthatthepresidenthasunderhisduties.Servingontheexecutiveboardandleadingall

clubmeetingsarealsosuchduties.Thepresidentbeginseachmeetingasthepresidingofficer.

Section1C:Thevice‐presidentwillbethesecondincommandintheclub’sorganizationalstructureand

willalsoserveontheexecutiveboard.Inadditiontoassistingthepresidentinthisfunctions,thevicepresidentwillberesponsibleforallaspectsofpublicrelationsandinformationtoclubmembers/players

andthegeneralstudentbody.

Section1D:Thedutyoftheclubsecretaryistokeeparecordofallclubfunctionssuchasmembership

rostersandmeetingminutes.Thesecretaryalsoisinchargeofallpublicrelationsandinformation

distributedtoclubmembers/playersandthestudentbody,andservesinthispositionequallywiththe

vice‐president,aswellasbeingthirdincommandintheclub’sorganizationalstructureandserveonthe

executiveboard.


Section1E:Thetreasurerisinchargeofallfinancialaspectsoftheclub,fromreferees,tournaments,

andleaguefeestoallotherpurchases.Thetreasurermustkeepneat,orderlyrecordswhichwillinclude

allreceipts.Areportmustbehandedouttoeachmemberoftheclub’sgoverningbodyonabi‐weekly

basis,withthesecretaryreceivinganextracopyforhisrecords.Thetreasurerisfourthincommandasa

memberoftheexecutiveboard.

Section1F:TheparliamentarianisinchargeofkeepingorderduringmeetingsaccordingtoArticleXI.He

orshealsohasthedutytorevisetheby‐lawsoftheclubasneeded.Theparliamentarianisamemberof

theexecutiveboardwithoutvotingrights.

Section1G:TheHistorianwillberesponsibleforbeingknowledgeableaboutallevents/tournaments

thattheclubteamparticipatesin.Theywillkeeparecordoflocations,opponents,scores,andstatistics.

TheHistorianwillalsoberesponsiblefordocumentingtheseeventswithphotographsorvideos.Thisis

anon‐votingposition.

Section1H:Thetwocaptainsareinchargeofconductingpractices,games,andalltraining‐related

activities.Itisalsoresponsibilityofthecaptainstorunallintramuralactivities(ArticleX,Section2).The

captainsarealsomembersoftheexecutiveboardwithoutvotingrights.

Section1I:Thenewappointeesoftheexecutiveboardshallserveasnon‐votingmembersofthe

executiveboardduringtransitionperiod.

Section2:Unlessmentioned,allmembersoftheexecutiveboardhavevotingrightsduringmeetings.

Section3:Anewpositionmaybecreatedontheboardpendingapprovalbythepresidentandtwothirdsratificationbytheexistingexecutiveboard.Thejobdescriptionwillbeclearlydefinedandadded

totheby‐laws.


ArticleV:ResignationsandWithdrawalsfromtheClub

Section1:ResignationbyanofficershallrequireaformalletterofresignationissuedtothePresident

andfacultyadvisor.Inthecaseofapresidentretiring,thenthelettershallbedeliveredtothevice

president.Inthecaseofamemberoftheboardwhoisnotacaptainresigning,anappointmentshall

takeplaceaccordingtoArticleVISectionD.

Section2:Resignationbyacaptainshallwarrantaletterofrecommendationissuedtothepresidentof

theexecutiveboardandfacultyadvisorand/orcoach.Resignationofacaptainshallwarrantanew

electionproceedinginaccordancewithArticleVISectionC.

Section3:Resignationofaplayerfromtheclubshallrequirealetterwrittentothecaptains.

Section4:Alllettersofresignationmuststateareasonforresignation(e.g.timeconstraint,personal

issues,etc.).


ArticleVI:Elections

Section1A:Electionsshallbeheldinthefifthweekofthespringsemesterasestablishedbythe

executiveboard.

Section1B:Beforetheelectionmeeting,clubmemberswhoarerecognizedasbeingingoodstanding

withtheclubandMaristCollegemaynominatethemselvesforapositionascaptain.Goodstandingis

definedasnotbeingonacademicprobationandbeinganactivememberasdefinedbyArticle3Section

5A.

Section1C:Newcaptainswillberecommendedbythepreviouscaptainsfromthenomineesandratified

withatwo‐thirdsapprovalfromactivemembers.

Section1D:Thenewlyelectedcaptainswillthenappointtheexecutiveboard.Eachmemberofthe

executiveboardmustthenbeapprovedbyatwo‐thirdsmajorityvoteofthepresentmembership.If

saidappointeeisnotapprovedbytwo‐thirdsmajorityanewappointmentisrecommendeduntilan

officerisinstalled.Appointmentswilltakeplaceintheeighthweekofthespringsemester.Newofficers

willbeheldfullyaccountablefortheirdutiesaftertheterminationofthespringsemester.Beforethe

springsemester,currentofficerswilltransitionthenewofficersintotheirprospectivepositions.New

officersatthistimeserveasnon‐votingmembersoftheclubexecutiveboard.

Section1E:Thetermofeachofficer,unlessheorsheisdeemedunfittoserve,willbeginatthe

terminationofthespringsemesterandlastthroughtheyearuptotheterminationofthespring

semesterofthefollowingyear.

Section1F:Allactivemembersreceiveonevoteintheelection,includingtheexecutiveboard.

Section1G:Intheeventofatieonanyvote,thepresidentwillactasthetiebreaker


ArticleVII:Meetings

Section1:Openmeetingswillbeheldatleastonceamonth,withthetimeandplacebeingpostedafter

aroomisreserved.Thesemeetingsareopentothegeneralmembershipandchairedinaccordancewith

ArticleVIISection3.Meetingminuteswillbesenttoallmembersoftheclub.

Section2:SpecialMeetingsmaybeheldifanymemberoftheexecutiveboardfeelsthatitisnecessary

andtwo‐thirdsormoreoftheboardagrees.Meetingsdonotqualifyas“openmeetings”ifclosed.

Section3:Inordertoholdameetingtheremustbeatleast3membersoftheexecutiveboardin

attendanceaswellas5othermembers,ifnotallmembersoftheboard.Openmeetingsareopentoall

clubmembersunlessaspecialmeetingiscalled.


Section4:Minutesaretobekeptforeachmeetinginordertoconveyanapproximationofhowthe

meetingwasconducted.Theseminutesareopenforaccessfromallclubmembers.

Section5:Clubofficersareallowedtomissthree(3)meetingsforexcusedabsencesandone(1)

unexcusedabsence.


ArticleVIII:ExecutiveBoard

Section1:TheexecutiveBoardshallconsistofthesixpriornamedofficers(ArticleIV,thetwocaptains,

andthefacultyadvisorand/orcoach.

Section2:Theexecutiveboardisinchargeofallnon‐athleticrelatedeventsandshallnotconflictwith

therightsofthecaptainsasdefinedinArticleIIIsection1B.


ArticleIX:Committees

Section1:Anycommitteeswillbesanctionedandorganizedbytheexecutiveboardforaspecific

purpose.Committeeswillbechairedbyatleastonememberoftheexecutiveboard.

Section2:Allcommitteesareboundbyclubby‐lawsandschoolregulations.


ArticleX:RelationshipbetweenClubandIntramuralSports

Section1:Forthepurposesofthisorganization,thereistobenoconnectionbetweenparticipationin

theintramuralgamesofUltimateFrisbeeandmembershipinMaristCollegeClubUltimateFrisbee.

Membersoftheintramuralwithexceptionaltalentwillnaturallygravitatetowardsahigherlevelofplay

thanthosenotinterestedinClubplay.

Section2:CaptainsoftheClubarealsoinchargeofhandlinganyintramuralaffairs.Thesedutiesinclude

themaintenanceoftheintramuralandhiringofrefereesforthesport.Captainsareencouragedto

attendAthleticAffairsCommitteemeetingstobettertheintramuralatMarist,which,inindefinite

terms,shouldindirectlyaffecttheintramural.

Section3:Clubplayersareallowedandencouragedtoattendintramuralgamesinordertopromotethe

clubaswellasattainadequateplaytimeasspaceallows.

Section4:Intramuralplayersarenotgrantedanyprivilegesaffordedaclubplayer.


ArticleXI:ParliamentaryProcedure


Unlesssuspended,allmeetingswillberunaccordingtoRobert’sRulesofOrder,NewlyRevised.Order

willbekeptbytheparliamentarianinaccordancewithhisorherdutiesdescribedinArticleIVSection

1F.


ArticleXII:AmendmentofBy‐Laws

Theseby‐lawsmaybeamendedbyamajorityvoteofthemembersprovidedthataquorumispresent.If

suchAmendmentspassbythemajority,itthenmustbepresentedtotheStudentGovernment

Associationforfinalapproval.


ArticleXIII:ViolationofLaws,CodesofConduct,etc.

TheclubandanyindividualassociatedwithitshallabideandconformtoallFederalandNewYorkState

Laws,allrulesandregulationsofMaristCollege,andalldirectivesoftheStudentGovernment

Association.Anyviolationoftheaforementionedcriteriamayresultindisciplinaryactiontakenonthe

clubcharter.


ArticleXIV:HazingandConduct

Section1:HazingasdefinedbytheMaristCollegeStudentHandbook:Anactwhichendangersthe

mentalorphysicalhealthorsafetyofastudentorwhichdestroysorremovespublicorprivateproperty,

forthepurposeofinitiation,admissioninto,oraffiliationwith,orasaconditionforcontinued

membershipinagroupororganization(Club)–isprohibited.

Section2:Playerswillbeexpectedtoplayinarespectfulmannerinregardstothe“spiritofthegame”

establishedbytheUPA,11 th editionrules.
