As regards GDP, according to figures for 2012 <strong>Catalonia</strong> would immediately<br />

be in twelfth position among EU economies, just above Finland<br />

(see figure 3) and far above countries like Portugal and the Czech Republic<br />

(both with a population <strong>of</strong> 105 million inhabitants, 40% more<br />

than <strong>Catalonia</strong>). In terms <strong>of</strong> pcGDP, figure 1 shows that the amount for<br />

<strong>Catalonia</strong> is 8% above the average for the EU 28 and Italy, and immediately<br />

below the three great economic powers on the continent, Germany,<br />

the United Kingdom and France. <strong>Catalonia</strong>’s status as a developed<br />

economy is also illustrated by the statistics for the NUTS regions (EU<br />

Nomenclature <strong>of</strong> Territorial Units for Statistics) and in its per capita<br />

GDP in terms <strong>of</strong> PPP (Purchasing Power Parity). According to data from<br />
