Description

®

larson is a composite designed for creating building facades. It is made from either two aluminium laminates or two outside laminates

of various metals such as copper, stainless steel or brass. These are joined together by a thermoplastic resin polyethylene (PE) core or

a mineral (FR) core.

In a sophisticated manufacturing process which gives them extraordinary strength, double the normal standard for these types of union.

larson has an excellent capacity to be machined, drilled, bent and curved without losing its technical characteristics.

Light, flat and fire resistant. Three features that seem to be incompatible and which combine together in larson fr composites.

®

Developed in Alucoil´s Research and Development department at Miranda de Ebro, Spain, the larson fr ACM is adapted to maximum

security demands in most of European regulations. Two high quality aluminium sheets and a particular internal FR core that

guarantees extreme fire resistance.

®

larson fr is the solution to modern architecture´s demands with regards to external facade cladding. The special features of the FR

core allow this material, within the range of Alucoil´s composites, to achieve European fire classification Bs2d0, which is specified in

the standard norm EN 13501-1, “Fire classification of construction products and building elements”. The classification can be used

in many European countries to show compliance with the national building regulations.

Fabrication of the composite panel

®

The advanced manufacture of larson composites brings out an extremely tight adhesion between the different layers and coats.

Tests carried out on all our products have exceeded by twofold parameters recommended by various standards. Thanks to the perfect

®

bond between the various parts that make up the larson composites panels, they have an enormous capacity for being

machined in various ways. All works detailed bellow shall be carried out at temperatures over 10ºC:

Cutting

®

Cutting of larson composite panels must be done preferably with shears, vertical circular saws or in CNC machine centres, using

the appropriate tools.

®

Due to the exceptional characteristics of larson metals stainless steel, it is recommended to cut it with shears.

Routing

®

larson can be easily worked with routing machines, conventional CNC centres and portable routing machines.

Curving

®

The composite panel larson can be curved without difficulty bending using three or four rolls, ensuring that they are clean to avoid

damaging the material.

General Specifications:

Curving of larson composite panels of 3 or 4 mm thickness.

Manufacturing dimensions:

Curving maximum width: 4000 mm (Length of the curving machine ).

Minimum radius: 150 mm.

Curved Cassette

®

larson metals stainless steel. Minimum radius: 1000 mm.

®

Curving of 4mm thickness larson Cassette with edges.

Minimum bending width: 150 mm (the same as the caps width).

The distance between the caps will the same as the thickness of

the panel, so that it will be through that separation where it

will move during the curving.

Manufacturing dimensions:

Curving maximum width: 4000mm. (Length of the curving machine).

Cassette flange: 25 mm

It is not recommended to curve cassettes with a edges of more than 30mm as the edge could be deformed. To carry out the curving

process, it is required to put a 2 mm thick aluminium sheet between the panel and the caps in order to avoid the marks of the teflon

caps. If we don´t put this sheet between the panel and the caps, marks will be observed on the cassette. If the curving radius is bigger

than 1000 mm, the curving must be done in flat, bending the edges afterwards. For this purpose at the beginning the curving

radius will be less than the intended one, reaching the desired radio during the forming of the cassette. Anyway, with this type of

curving, the edge of the cassette does not remain completely flat and it is possible to appreciate some waves on it. The

bended cassettes with edges must have an opening, minimum of 400 mm, to allow the removal of the cassette. In the case of

larson metals stainless steel the curving will be done in cassettes with edges of 40mm.

®

Due to the low rigidity of the composite panels of 3 mm, it won´t be possible to curve the larson and signi panels of 3mm

(cassettes with edge) due to the deformation that the edge would suffer during the curving. Because of that the curving of the

larson and signi of 3mm will only be done on flat panels

There will be plain areas at the beginning and the end of the curving area with maximum length of 140mm.

Bending

The panel should be protected in the area in contact with the tool and the leaning area to prevent damages.

Punching

Having into account the following nomenclature Alucoil offers a wide range of punches able to give each type of facade exclusive design.

“R”: Round (Diameter of perforations).

“U”: Perforations disposed in parallel (Distance between axes).

“T”: Perforations in a staggered formation (Distance between axes) .

“C”: Square (Side of square).

“LC”: Side of the square (Width x Length).

“LR”: Rectangles with radius (Width x Length).

To scale the cladding with cassettes against wind loads, it is to be considered as an acceptable maximum deflection at the center of

Lineal thermal expansion of the larson composite panel and the profile support

Due to the thermal influence, the magnitude of the contraction or expansion has to be calculated for the dimension of the joint

expansions. It is defined by:

Taking into account that in our environment the maximum thermal dispersion is 42ºC, the maximum extension per lineal metre

Therefore, in relation to determine the proportion of the joint expansion, it should be enough to allow 1mm per lineal metre, this

should achieve the absorption of expansion, regardless of the time of year it is fabricated, installed and all building work has been

completed.

Placing of intermediate reinforcement

Area Preparation

Cleaning. Dust and other contaminants will be removed using a mechanical processes and never with the use of solvents. The cleaning

will consist of a light or intensive sanding of the area (depending on the amount of contamination). This dust will be vacuumed or

removed with compressed air.

Applying Primer to the area

Once the area has been cleaned it will be applied the SIKA PRIMER, a black primer which reinforces the adhesion of the filler. Depending

on the cassette type, larson , larson metals stainless steel, SIKA PRIMER 210 T or SIKA PRIMER 204 will be used respectively.

Double Sided Adhesive Tape

Once the area has been covered with primer and the waiting time for drying has passed (30,60m), the adhesive tape (SIKATACK

PANEL 3) will be placed. This will hold the component in position, while the adhesive is curing. This process will also ensure that at

least the minimum thickness of the adhesive will be applied.

Applying the adhesive

The application of the adhesive SIKATACK PANEL will always be on the cassette applying a bead next to the double sided tape.

Placing of the intermediate reinforcement

The intermediate reinforcement will be placed where the surface of the panel has been coated with adhesive. The intermediate

reinforcement will then be riveted at the top and bottom.

Transport, storage and manipulation.

The maximum storage period is eight months. At the effects it is recommended that the panels are piled up one on top of one up to

a maximum of 7 heights, preventing to be placed vertically.

Start work

1. Design definitions

Before the installation of the kit has taken place, it should be already finished the cassettes and sub frame composition of the kit. For

this purpose, it will be necessary to define at least the following aspects:

• Profiles, anchors brackets and its fixings devices. In particular, it should be defined the maximum batter of the support in relation to

the regulation range allowed by the bracket.

• Thickness of ventilated air gap and of thermal insulation boards.

• Type of panel and size of cassettes (standard and special) taking into account the definition of joints between cassettes and the

assembly to other elements.

• Singular points resolutions.

2. Installation organisation

Both for new or refurbishments walls, firstly it must be studied the aspect of the existing load bearing support. Then, brackets will be

fixed to the support. After that, thermal isolation will be placed before vertical profiles. It is recommended rigid hydrophobic and flameproof

insulation boards. Then, it will be upward built the general part of cladding and finally the special cassettes (corners, singular

parts, etc)...

3. Installers

Installation should be carried out by TA holder or its recognized installers.

4. Support preparation

Sub frame must be installed perfectly aligned in order to guarantee the planarity of the kit. Before mounting the cassettes, pull-out

resistance of anchors must be tested in situ in order to assure the stability and load bearing capability of the support.

The kit installer will give its conformity to the estate of the support before any cassette has been installed. Kit must be installed

respecting the correct batter and in order to guarantee the planarity of the sysrtem.

5. Fixing vertical profiles to brackets

First and last bracket will be installed maximum at 250 mm distance from the end of the vertical profile. Maximum length of vertical

profile will be 6.500 mm.

Load bearing brackets will be fixed to the support using self tapping screws complementary to the foreseen crossing bolt, while

retention brackets will allow dilatation movements of the vertical profiles, thanks to the mounting holes previously carried out on

the vertical profile.

6. Cassettes

During the installation of the cassettes it will be necessary to take care on its manufacturing direction sense (marked with an arrow

on the protective film and on its hidden face).

Once installed, protective films must be removed in order to avoid damages caused by an excessive exposition to solar radation and

weather.

For the purpose of the installation on site, it must be reviewed the positions of LC-3 support brackets and if possibe, placing cassettes

following horizontal courses, and later riveting the cassettes on its previous done mounting holes of their upper horizontal flanges

to the wings of the vertical profiles.

7. Inspection and maintenance:

Inspection must be done at least once per year. This period of time may be shorter due to a more aggressive environment where

material is placed. Please ask your supplier for advice regarding this issue.

8. Special recommendations:

Eliminate from façade leaves, grass, rust or other strange substances.

Cleaning: Any blocking in gutters that may cause overflowing on the façade. Dirt retained in places where rainfall cannot clean it

naturally.

Defects that may cause an early deterioration of coating or aluminium corrosion must be repaired. If this is not possible replace the

sheet.

9. larson composite façade cleaning

To obtain the longest lifetime possible for larson façade is important to clean dirt accumulations, dumpings and other materials that

may not be wiped naturally by rainfall. All larson cladding material must be cleaned once per year. The cleaning must be done with a

soft sponge, wet cloth or with a water pressure system (max pressure 50 bar) avoinding any material that may scratch the finishing

(sand, dust...). A neutral soap (PH 6-7) or washing powder or liquid can be mixed with the water (max 10% of detergent in water).

Rinsing afterwards mus be done with clean water that may contain some kind of liquid wax (i.e car washing) and drying after with non

abrasive materials and a final wipe with a dry soft cotton cloth.

10. Precaution:

Organic solvents, acid or alkaline products aswell as chlorine products must be avoided on cleaning of coated surfaces. Using strong

abrasives, hard brushes and dry cleaning may cause damages to coated surface.

11. Cleaning of fingerprint or similar:

Fingerprints can be removed with acetone application with a non abrasive material such as a soft sponge or leather or cotton cloth.

Washing with abundant water comes after and drying with non abrasive materials and with a cotton or similar cloth.
