Day One 9 Oct 04 Saturday Depart U.S.A. Flight
Day Two 10 Oct 04 Sunday Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport. Welcome
by our representative and assistance with arrival
formalities. Transfer to Tel Aviv. Introduction on the
beach. Check into the hotel. Welcome dinner with
Rabbi Meir Azari of Congregation Beit Daniel.
Day Three 11 Oct 04 Monday Breakfast at the hotel. A View from Yesterday and a
Look Towards the Future, with philosopher Professor
Assa Kasher of Tel Aviv University. Visit the new Beit
HaPalmach – the Palmach House, a new, innovative
and interactive museum, for a unique look at the
origins of the State of Israel. Guided visit through
South Tel Aviv with representatives from Doctors for
Human Rights and Kav La Oved – the Foreign
Workers Hotline, to explore the world of foreign
workers in Israel. The Faces of Israel Today: Text
Study and Dialogue with Rabbi Meir Azari and
congregation members at the Beit Daniel
Congregation. Late afternoon at leisure.
Enjoy a Mid-Eastern-style dinner at the Maganda
Restaurant in the Yemenite Quarter of Tel Aviv.
Day Four 12 Oct 04 Tuesday Depart for Northern Israel via the new Trans -Israel
Highway and view the new Security Fence that
separates Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
Visit Kibbutz Metzer, located above the Separation
Fence and meet with the General Secretary, Dov
Avital for an insight into life in the Seam Zone.
Special visit to the Israeli Arab town of Um El Fahm,
including a dialogue with Mayor Hashem Abed Al
Rachman. Drive to Safed. Meditation time in the Birya
Forest. Check into the hotel. Dinner at the home of
Janine and Ronnie Bar El.

Evening mystical tour of Safed.
Day Five 13 Oct 04 Wednesday Safed: Old and New: guided visit through the old and
new cities of Safed with Binny Sahlev, President of the
Safed Foundation. Lunch in Safed. Drive to Jerusalem
and upon entering the city stop at the Haas
Promenade to say the traditional shehechiyanu
blessing. Check into the hotel. Dinner and evening on
your own in Jerusalem.
Day Six 14 Oct 04 Thursday Breakfast at the hotel with former Member of Knesset,
Benny Begin. The Challenges of Jewish Life Today:
study program at the Shalom Hartman Institute.
Guided visit through the Western Wall Tunnel.
Tour of the Christian Quarter with Daniel Rossing,
former advisor to the Mayor of Jerusalem on Christian
Affairs. Tzadakah program at the Reut School with
Aryeh Geiger and staff. Seminar at the Israeli
Foreign Ministry. Evening and dinner at leisure.
Day Seven 15 Oct 04 Friday Contemporary Israel through Biblical Eyes, with
Professor Uriel Simon. Guided visit through the new
excavations at the City of David that have shed new
light on the origins of Jerusalem. Visit the new
interactive Davidson Center in the Ophel Garden,
followed by the Southern Wall. Visit the Kotel
(Western Wall). Visit the Jewish Quarter, including the
Cardo and Hurva Square, with lunch on your own.
Free time for rest and relaxation. Kabbalat Shabbat
and dinner with members of Congregation
Day Eight 16 Oct 04 Saturday Shabbat services at the Progressive Orthodox
congregation Shira Chadasha. Lunch on your own.
Shabbat, Jerusalem and the Connection Between
Them, with Rabbi Na’ama Kelman, acting Dean of the
Hebrew Union College – Jerusalem. If Walls Could
Talk, walking tour through the Rehavia and Talbiah
neighborhoods, following the stories of the great
Zionist leaders who lived in the area. Havdallah.
Dinner and evening at leisure.

Day Nine 17 Oct 04 Sunday Breakfast at the hotel with Anat Hoffman, Director of
the Israel Religious Action Center. Political Jerusalem -
travel through the city of Jerusalem exploring some of
the political and diplomatic complexities of recent
years, including Har Homa, the Zofim Tunnel under
Mount Scopus and the Separation Fence. Depart for
Efrat via the Gush Etzion Tunnel Road. Why I Live in
Judea and Samaria: visit the settlement of Efrat and
meet with local Councilwoman Eve Harrow, originally
from Los Angeles, for an insight into her vision of
peace and justice for Israelis and Palestinians.
Why We Should Leave the West Bank: dialogue and
field visit with Rabbi Arik Asherman, Executive
Director of Rabbis for Human Rights, for an insight
into his vision of peace and justice for Israelis and
Palestinians. The Geneva Accords: Will They Save the
Day?: panel discussion with Dr. Yossi Beilin and
Professor Gerald Steinberg. Dinner in the Little
Jerusalem restaurant with journalist Yossi Klein Halevi.
Day Ten 18 Oct 04 Monday Meet with Rabbi Uri Regev, the Executive Director of
the World Union of Progressive Judaism, at Merkaz
Shimshon. Special program at the new Supreme Court
building with the attorneys from the Israel Religious
Action Center. V.I.P visit to the Knesset, the seat of
Israel’s Parliament and meet with members of
parliament. Farewell dinner.
Day Eleven 19 Oct 04 Tuesday Breakfast at the hotel followed by a transfer to the
airport. Departure for Los Angeles, arriving the day.
