independent employers. The percentage working for direct payment recipients was around

8%. This proportion was smaller than for the number of jobs (9%) due to the relatively

large number of these workers holding more than one job.

Chart 5.11 provides an illustration of the number of people working in adult social care by

employer type. The size of each circle is proportional to the number of people working in

each employer type and the intersections represent the people working for more than one

type of employer.

Initial Skills for Care estimates show that approximately 5,000 people had both

independent and local authority jobs and approximately 25,000 people were working for

direct payment recipients and for independent or local authority employers.

appendix 4. Appendix 3 provides a cross tabulation by sector, service type and job role

group at a regional level for both the number of jobs and the number of people doing those

jobs. And Appendix 4 provides a CSSR level breakdown of the number of adult social care

jobs by sector.
