Die Subkultur in der Innenstadt boomt wieder und
nutzt auch temporär alle denkbaren Locations: ehemalige
Kinos, Kantinen und Stammcafés der Großelterngeneration
wandeln sich zu In-Clubs auf Zeit.
Die Münchner Clubszene hat sich weitgehend von
der kommerziellen Hallenkultur der 90er Jahre verabschiedet.
Viele Clubs sind nun eher zentrumsnah angesiedelt.
Spannende kulturelle Zwischennutzungen
von Innenstadt-Gebäuden wie das Art Babel bieten der
jungen Kulturszene Experimentierfelder, geben Impulse
für die Entwicklung von Szenevierteln und lösen
damit auch urbane Veränderungen aus.
Nicht zu übersehen ist die Medienstadt München, deren
internationale Bedeutung sich mit den renommierten
Bavaria Filmstudios, dem Traditionsunternehmen
Arri und der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film, die
gerade ihren Neubau im Kunstareal bezogen hat, belegen
lässt. Dass auch der bayerische Film wieder im
Trend ist, zeigen Erfolgsproduktionen wie „Wer früher
stirbt ist länger tot“ oder „Shoppen“. Das internationale
Festival der Filmhochschulen findet ebenso regelmäßig
statt wie das von der filminteressierten Bevölkerung
gut angenommene Filmfest München, bei dem
Nachwuchsstars auf Branchengrößen treffen. Beim
Anfang Mai stattfindenden Dok.Filmfest werden internationale
Dokumentarfilme gezeigt, die oft unter
schwierigen politischen und ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen
entstanden sind. Das Fantasy Filmfest
macht ebenfalls Station in München und zeigt Neues
aus den Genres Science Fiction, Horror, Thriller. Und
im Filmmuseum des Münchner Stadtmuseums sowie
im Werkstattkino sind ganzjährig Raritäten und Reihen
abseits des Mainstream zu sehen. All dies ist maßgeblich
für Münchens Ruf als Filmstadt verantwortlich.
Bei den elektronischen Medien, dem Fernsehen und
Hörfunk, gilt München im bundesweiten Vergleich als
besonders attraktiv. Durch diese Standortvorteile hat
München die besten Voraussetzungen, auch im Bereich
der audiovisuellen Künste und der Medienkunst
eine führende Position einzunehmen.
Verlagsstadt München
Mit rund 130 Verlagen und einer Produktion von fast
10 000 Buchtiteln ist München die größte Verlagsstadt
Europas. Seit 1997 manifestiert sich die Rolle der Literatur
innerhalb der Stadt auch im räumlichen Sinne:
Im Stadtzentrum am Salvatorplatz wurde das Literaturhaus
aus der Taufe gehoben. Seitdem begegnen
sich hier Menschen, denen die Literatur Inspiration

clubs. Munich’s club scene has mostly left the
commercial disco culture of the 90s behind it. Many
clubs are now more central. Inventive temporary cultural
usages of inner-city buildings like the Art Babel
offer the young cultural generation places to experiment,
provide impulses for the development of “in”
quarters and in doing so give rise to changes in the
city.
The media city Munich is not to be ignored. Its international
significance can be seen in the world famous
Bavaria Film Studios, Arri and the TV and film academy
“Hochschule für Fernsehen and Film”, which has just
moved into its new premises opposite the Pinakothek.
Box office hits like “Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot” and
“Shoppen” show that Bavarian films are back in force.
The international Festival of Film Academies is held
just as regularly as the highly popular Munich Filmfest,
where young stars meet up with the big names of the
industry. At the Dok.Filmfest held in early May, international
documentaries are screened that were often
filmed under difficult political and economic conditions.
The Fantasy Filmfest also stops over in Munich
and screens the latest from the genres science fiction,
horror and thriller. And in the Film Museum of
the Münchner Stadtmuseum and in the Werkstattkino
cinema, rarities and films from out of the mainstream
can be seen all year round. All this is what earns Munich
its reputation as a movie town. In the field of
electronic media, TV and radio Munich is considered
to be particularly attractive in a German comparison.
Munich’s benefits mean that it is predestined to take
on a leading position in the fields of audio-visual and
media art.
Munich - the publishing town
Around 130 publishing companies and a publishing
volume of almost 10 000 books make Munich the
biggest publishing town in Europe. Since 1997 the
role of literature in Munich is also manifested in a
public building: In the middle of town at Salvatorplatz
the Literaturhaus was born. It is a place for people
to meet for whom literature is inspiration and sustenance,
playground and space for discussion. The
Literaturhaus quickly established itself as a meeting
place for writers, publishers, booksellers and jour-
