Das Tollwood Festival
Das Tollwood Festival gehört zu München: Zweimal im
Jahr bietet es mit einem multikulturellen Programm
und dem „Markt der Ideen“ seinen Besuchern eine
Auszeit vom Alltag. Aus dem kleinen Ein-Zelt-Fest von
1988 ist ein renommiertes Kulturfestival geworden. Im
Juni und Juli lädt das Sommerfestival in den Olympiapark
Süd ein; von Ende November bis Silvester ist das
Winterfestival auf der Theresienwiese im Herzen der
Stadt daheim. Dabei zieht das Kulturfestival jährlich
rund 1,5 Millionen Besucher an.
Tollwood steht für eine Vielfalt an Theater, Performances,
Installationen und Bildender Kunst, für Musik von
Bands aus der Region bis hin zu internationalen Top-
Stars, für Kabarett und Comedy, kurz: für eine kulturelle
Entdeckungsreise. Dabei sind rund 70 Prozent
aller Veranstaltungen kostenfrei. Im Winter stehen
das Theaterprogramm und der Weltsalon im Vordergrund,
im Sommer sind neben den Theaterproduktionen
hochkarätige internationale Musik-Acts zu Gast.
Seit jeher ist Tollwood auch ein Forum für Umweltbewusstsein
und soziales Engagement. Die Gastronomie
des Festivals ist biozertifiziert, das Angebot
an Kunsthandwerk-Produkten, die aus fairem Handel
stammen, wird kontinuierlich ausgebaut. Seit
2007 bietet der Weltsalon umweltpolitischen und
gesellschaftlichen Themen eine Bühne. Mit „Bio für
Kinder“ setzt Tollwood auch außerhalb des Festivals
Akzente.
The Tollwood festival
The Tollwood festival is an integral part of Munich:
Twice a year it offers its visitors an escape from the
usual routine with a multi-cultural programme and the
“Market of Ideas”. What began as a single tent in 1988
has grown to become a major cultural festival of great
renown. In June and July the Summer Tollwood is held
in the Olympic Park, and Winter Tollwood then takes
place on the Theresienwiese grounds, where the Oktoberfest
is also held just two months earlier. Tollwood
attracts around 1.5 million visitors every year.
It stands for a wide diversity of theatre, performances,
installations and fine arts, music by bands from the
region and leading international stars, for cabaret and
comedy, in short for a voyage of cultural discovery.
And nearly all the events are free of charge. In winter
the theatre programme and World Salon are the focal
points. In summer, top theatre and music acts give
guest performances.
Ever since its inception, Tollwood has also always
been a forum for environmental awareness and social
commitment. The food on offer is certified organic
and the range of fair-trade craftwork products is constantly
being enlarged. Since 2007 the World Salon
has provided a stage for environmental and social
issues. Tollwood also makes its mark outside the
scope of the festival with its “Organic for Children”
scheme.
