I’ve worked with staff members within hospitality that were not enthusiastic in their jobs. We were both working in the kitchen and the<br />

goal is to match the output of food with the demand outside the food outlet. My colleague did not see the value in preparing before the<br />

big rush and wanted to work only during peak periods. I approached my colleague and explained to him the benefits of preparing before<br />

the big rush without trying to downplay on his attitude to work.<br />

I objectively reasoned that it would help us clear out the customers quicker rather than starting when the peak starts. He reluctantly<br />

obliged because I also reasoned that we can finish our shifts earlier if we do take care of the rush quicker. From that point on, we learnt<br />

how to estimate the amount of preparation needed based on the people attending in a sporting event or a function and worked more<br />

efficiently during peak periods.<br />

What kind of events would you run for FMAA?<br />

I would run Networking Events, Case Competitions, Luncheons and Finance Workshops for FMAA. I believe that Networking Events<br />

are essential as it helps FMAA’s members to develop themselves professionally and connect with the Finance industry. Case<br />

competitions and Finance Workshops help improve our members’ practical skills as well as engaging with the broader professional<br />

services industry. Finally, the Luncheon is our biggest university-based event where we collaborate with multiple branches,<br />

expanding our impact and the reach of the FMAA brand. I will also endevour to collect member feedback both internally and<br />

externally to create more innovative events in the Future.<br />

CONCEPT<br />

UNDERSPEND aims to help university students and recent graduates to develop good finance habits. They link their financial<br />

accounts - their bank statements, credit history or other financial history would all be read automatically. The app will process<br />

and display the ongoing trend of their expenses, earnings and savings (earnings minus expenses). The user can set targets or<br />

decide to save for a specific investment. Appropriate information will be overlaid in the trend display helping them to achieve<br />

their financial goals.<br />

The user will be rewarded with good emblems by saving money and will be given bad emblems for spending below their<br />

targets. In addition, they will be able to customise their personal profile with icons that will be unlocked based on specific<br />

events related to their finance activities. The app intends to save them time from keeping account of their expenses manually.<br />

Real time trends allows them to see their current financial state and plan ahead for the future. Throughthe combination of<br />

smart analytics, gamification and a social platform, we are promoting a culture of positive financial wellbeing which will benefit<br />

the intended user in their succession from university and into the workforce as their expenses increase.<br />

Financial data will be kept secret. The only indication of the financial trends of a person is based on their emblems and icons.<br />

This ensures privacy issues are kept to a minimum. In addtion, the user is able to adjust privacy settings if they wish. Although<br />

targeted to university students, it can be used by anyone who has a compatible bank account, credit card or other partner<br />

accounts.<br />
