3 Aspects To Consider When Buying A Cot
Babies sleep a lot after their birth for few months and hence you should make sure that they
sleep well in comfort and are safe. So here’s our guide to know how to choose a baby cot.
Few points to consider:
1. Consider Space
It’s advised that babies should sleep in your room only for initial few months, but however
not all rooms are not that big enough to accommodate a cot or cot bed and you know about
cot assembly process in that case you can use Moses basket.
At the same time thinking for cot bed? Well yes it’s surely the best option – and more
popular even as the cot bed lasts from birth to around four years. It’s even the perfect gap –
say a Bridger between the cot and your first big bed.
2. Cot Features To Consider
Drop side : Drop side means one end of the cot or either cot bed should be lower so that we
can easily access. Few drop side cots are one handed as you can hold your child while by
just lowering one side with your hand.
Fixed sides : few parents even demand for cots that have fixed sides that should not raise
and lower. The cot packages of such cots are worth enough.
Height adjustment : cots come in various forms. Most of them come 2-3 base positions, so
initially use the highest position until the baby can move. Later use the second position till
the time baby can learn to stand up. Further, use the third position till the baby can run.
Teething rails : remove the non-toxic plastic covering for your little champ to protect the
kid from gums and till the teeth starts coming.
Under drawer storage : go for the cots that have big drawers and you can save enough kid
products there.
3. Child’s Safety
Few easy safety tips you should follow to ensure your baby is safe:
1. The distance between mattress and know about moving from cot to a bed and cot should
not be more than 3cm.
2. Ensure that child should sleep from feet to foot position, that means feet at base of the cot
3. Keep the temperature of room till 18°C i.e. not too hot not even cold.
4. Keep baby monitor cords well out of baby’s reach
5. Ensure the baby’s bed is rigid when combined with no wobbles and has tighten fittings.
6. Please don’t use a cot top changer on a sleigh baby bed as its one side is sloping
7. In case if you are using a bumper then make sure it is moved to the slats and fixed
securely in between mattress and slats with base edge touching the baby’s bed base.
