I began with figure photography occasionally. I
started following, with great wonder, my friend’s
passion for this hobby. This transmission allowed
me to discover a world full of fantasy, much fun and
personal creation. Choosing with care the figures
and doing my best with photography the final results
give me enough satisfaction.
PROFILE
Hello! I’m Stereometric and I’ve been an avid figure
collector and photographer for about seven
years now! I began this hobby after being inspired
by some very talented photographers such as Kodomut,
Adun and Danny Choo.
I mainly love to work with natural light and color,
but recently I’ve been exploring diorama building
and indoor lighting. My collection consists mainly of
nendoroids and scale figures.
It’s been wonderful watching this hobby grow and
I hope to continue to be inspired by all the talent.
WHAT IS PHYGURE® PRIME?
PHYGURE PRIME
Written by Otakumouse
www.phygure.com
NO 02 | ISSUE 01 17

When I was developing Phygure’s maiden issue, I
learned and realized a lot of things that can help
me improve Phygure’s future issues. This is the main reason
why I started the issue numbering from 00 instead of
01. ISSUE00 serves as the “trial issue” of this community
driven project. It’s the issue where I lay down and setup
the backbone of the magazine. I received a lot of awesome
submissions from the community and I was really
happy with the support and heartwarming messages I received
from different people. As a sign of appreciation for
the community, I decided to include everyone in the maiden
issue, but then I realized I really can’t include everyone
and I must set some limits in order to ease the overall development
of each issue.
Since I’m the only one doing both the assembly and design
work of the whole magazine, I need to identify the
optimum number of pages that I can support each month.
Upon studying the work involved in the maiden issue, I
learned that in order for me to regularly release an issue
every month, I need to limit the “phygure photo showcase”
submissions to 12 people plus a standard of 4 written articles
per issue. I really want to include as many submission
as possible but we really need to setup some “standards”
to make everything streamlined and consistent. But if you
remember what I’ve mentioned on ISSUE00 (now live at
www.phygure.com), everyone who submits content will be
featured. No one’s going to be left behind. That’s where
Phygure Prime comes in.
“Phygure Prime is a pure showcase edition of the magazine
that features every figure photography submission
from the last 2 issues.”
www.phygure.com
NO 02 | ISSUE 01 18

WHAT IS PHYGURE® PRIME?
What is Phygure Prime you ask? Phygure Prime is a pure
showcase edition of the magazine that features every
figure photography submission from the last 2 issues. It
means, for every 2 issues of Phygure, we get 1 “prime” edition.
Think of it as a special compilation of all the awesome
figure photography content submitted by the community.
This is also the version where we give credit to some of
the best submissions and you’ll know it first hand because
their page design will be different than others. This will
help motivate other figure photographers to be more creative
in their photography work. The concept here is pretty
simple, if you want to be highlighted as a “prime”, you
need to step up your game which in turn will improve your
photography skills in the process. A win-win scenario for
everybody ;)
[prahym]
the choicest or best part of anything.
The “prime” edition of the magazine will also include some
“never before seen” submissions that I purposely didn’t include
on the past 2 issues to make it a bit more special.
It will also have some teasers of what you can expect on
the next issue. Phygure Prime will be always be developed
every 2 issues and we will identify them by “volume”. Since
this issue is “technically” the 2nd issue (we started at IS-
SUE00 remember?), we are now scheduled to release the
very first volume of Phygure® PRIME (yey!).
Stay tuned for further announcements on Phygure’s official
facebook page www.facebook.com/phygure and
please don’t forget to hit that like button before you leave!
See you guys on the the next issue and enjoy the rest of
the magazine!
PROFILE
Hi, I’m Randy but my friends call me Randz - feel
free to do so, I don’t mind. I’m a corporate slave by
day and an amateur photographer by night. From
the Philippines.
I was hooked with Instagram during its early years
where photography sharing sessions and hitting the
popular page (now the explore page) were a thing.
Thru this network I’ve met a lot of different types of
photographers and some of them actually inspired
me to do toy photography.
I started collecting Revoltechs first around 2012;
then Figmas, ThreeAs and now getting hooked with
Nendoroids. My collection mainly focuses on Japanese
brands since I’m more of a fan of Japanese
animes than Western cartoons.
Been recently creating my own dioramas as well so
I can do indoor shoots that would look more natural
than forced. Was inspired by 3 out of my many toy
photographer idols to do dioramas; masters kixkillradio,
lovepinkcheeks and vince454 Photo-desu.
PROFILE
Hi everyone, I’m Etienne from France ! In early 2011, I
was looking for something to put myself in the photo,
that’s when I discovered the nendoroid. I instantly
fell in love with these cute figurines and now my
collection is significant!
Make funny pictures is one of my favorite things,
mixing nendoroid, creating dioramas and set comical
scenes.
I love going out with my nendoroid, but it’s always
dangerous, some of them are damaged following
different trips... But I always draw beautiful pictures,
and that all that I want : immortalize these scene
with my figurines is a real pleasure now.
Feel free to start shooting, it’s only happiness :D
ONE
PUNCH
MAN
Written by sevenPocky
Guess what most anime fans (outside Japan) are excited
for Fall 2015 anime season? It’s none other than One
Punch Man! It even made the first two volumes of the
manga a bestseller in New York Times!
www.phygure.com
NO 02 | ISSUE 01 32

TYPE: TV | EPISODES: 12 | PREMIERED: FALL 2015 | PRODUCERS: MADHOUSE
www.phygure.com
NO 02 | ISSUE 01 33

The anime, One Punch Man, was produced by Madhouse,
a production studio known for being faithful to
their adaptations. Madhouse’s notable shows are Hunter x
Hunter (2011), Kiseijuu (Parasyte), Ore Monogatari!! and No
Game No Life. The action comedy anime tickled the right
spot of its audience as the main character is different from
other typical super powered protagonist. The quirks and
cliches are countered. And the humor, ah, no words, the
maincharacter’s facial expressions are already good.
It is set in an alternate setting where super heroes exist to
wipe out evil creatures and villains made by human nature.
(An evil creature came from pollution!) We were then introduced
to the main character, Saitama, who looks average,
with an expressionless face and bald head, but is actually
an overly powerful superhero who desires to have a
worthy opponent that could last more than his one critical,
deadly punch. Given that every opponent gets defeated
by his one punch, he says that he is only a “superhero for
fun”.
www.phygure.com
NO 02 | ISSUE 01 34

The first episode is already filled with action, a heroic
scene, a backstory, a mini plot twist and an introduction to
the other important characters. The usual anime tropes of
being naive to their godly powers is not seen in this anime.
Saitama knows what’s up and regrets having it. It’s like a
story where you reach the maximum level of a game, then,
even if you feel superior, you feel an emptiness and a loss
of purpose to go on. Which drives you to find someone
with a higher level than you, to liven up your life.
The premiere of One Punch Man definitely had a strong
start that makes you want to watch more. Will Saitama
find someone who could not be defeated after his one
punch?
Hi! My name is Michael Wijaya and I am from Indonesia.
I started to collect figures from around a year
ago and I mainly collect Nendoroids because of how
cute they are and how you can easily take them to
travel. I haven’t done much of mix and matches for
Nendoroids, but I am planning to do so in the future.
I started learning photography because of my hobby
of figure collecting. I started learning photography
about 2 months after I started collecting figures.
I am inspired to learn more and more about
photography after seeing all the brilliant and talented
photos from all the very well known toy photographers
out there and hopefully I can be as good
as they are someday. I am proud to take part in this
community and hopefully someday my photos can
inspire someone else to be the same.
My name is Myra known as Nendoroidoodads online
and I am from Australia.
I am still new to this hobby and only recently stumbled
upon the figure collecting world.
I bought my first figure which was a nendoroid
around February 2015 and I now own 25 of them
and its growing fast! Soon after I started collecting I
stumbled upon facebook pages that took cute photographs
of their figures such as Kixkillradio and
NYOtaku and fell in love with it.
On March 14th 2015 I decided to make my own facebook
page and try taking my own photos.
I started off just using my mobile phone to take
photos and as my page grew I decided to take a
step further and buy my first proper camera. My
page is now just over 900 likes which I am so happy
with as I never thought me joining this hobby I
joined would come so far!
I have now joined more websites such as twitter, my
figure collection and tumblr to continue sharing my
photos. After I had been collecting for about half a
year I started my own D.I.Y projects for miniature
items to use in my photos. A lot of people kept asking
me how I did it and I ended up making a site to
post tutorials on.
In the short time I have been a figure photographer
I have met so many amazing people and made lots
of new friends, it is such a wonderful hobby to be
apart of. I am still very new to everything and have
a lot to learn especially with lighting and what my
cameras settings and capabilities are. I am glad that
I stumbled upon this awesome hobby and community!
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR FIGURE PHOTOGRAPHY
PART 1
CAMERA BASICS
Written by jvruanto
We love to take photos of our figures, we shoot as much as we
could, anytime, anywhere – the question is, are you familiar with
the functions that your camera has? Have you explored them and
used them to their maximum potential?
I’ll be doing a step-by-step guide on basic
photography skills to help you learn more about
your camera.
UNDERSTANDING
THE MASTER TRIO
Some of you might own a camera and have mastered
its operation but for those who want to learn
the basics, let’s start by understanding the master
TRIO of photography.
SHUTTER SPEED
Imagine shooting a moving object, can you take a sharp photo of it? Here are some tips on how to understand “Shutterspeed”
In a context explanation, shutter speed refers to the length of time when the sensor is exposed to light. You may refer
to the infograph below for a detailed explanation of how it works.
1/2500 1/640 1/400 1/100 1/40 1/20 1/8 1/3
*illustrative example only
To master the TRIO, practice shooting in MANUAL so you can mix and match the desired settings of your camera and image.
Basically, shutterspeed refers to how fast you can take a photo of the subject using your camera, if you see a higher value
number on your camera screen if you set the shutter speed, that’s how fast you can take photos of your subject. Imagine
shooting a moving figure and still getting a sharp image result.
Take note that in order to get the best shot possible; you also need to learn about the other masters - aperture and ISO.
APERTURE
Aperture is the opening (in the lens) where light passes
through. The bigger the opening, the more light passes
through resulting to a brighter image. The thing with
aperture though is that if the reading/number is lower,
the opening would be bigger; so if you have a lens with
a max aperture of 1.4 you can shoot brighter images
and produce images with bokeh.
BOKEH
Bo-what? Bokeh (BOH-kay) is the quality of blur produced
in an out-of-focus part of the image produced
by a high aperture opening.
APERTURE (CONT.)
As you can see in the image comparison (above), higher aperture produces highlight for the foreground subject rather than
the background.
ISO 64000
ISO 16000
ISO
ISO determines the sensitivity of the image. The lower the
ISO, the more crisp and detailed your subject would be, the
higher it is more noise would appear in your image.
UNDERSTANDING NOISE
Noise in photos is the same with audio noise – unnecessary
elements are present. As you can see (left), lesser ISO produces
cleaner image compared to the higher ISO count. Although
higher ISO count can be helpful in lowlight shooting
situations.
Did you know the maximum ISO count available is at 409,600,
why would you need night vision googles if you can have that?!
ISO 3200
ISO 50
TRITIP
PART 1
CAMERA BASICS
Image is at ISO-2500, there’s noise present
in the photo but it adds depth and details
on the theme of the photo
EXAMPLES
Now that you understand the master TRIO, it’s
time to shoot! Here are some examples of a perfect
combination of the master TRIO.
TRICK
Setting the exposure value can help create depth
and brightness of your images. Try setting your
camera’s exposure value lower so you can create
more dramatic shots.
PROFILE
I’m a full time student and part time hobbyist from
the Philippines! I’ve been a figure collector since
2013, jumpstarting my humble set with 1/6 scale
military figures – only to pick up anime figures, a
hobby I’ve left in 2010, later on. My casual gallivanting
into the world of photography becomes an outlet
for my love for anime, comic books, and visual
arts.
Outside figures from common manufacturers such
as Good Smile Company, Kotobukiya, and Sideshow
Collectibles, my favorite figure currently is my
Smart Doll Mirai named Yoki!
PROFILE
My roots in toy photography began on Instagram
in 2011. I started collecting Nendoroids and Figmas
back then. I love seeing their poses when photographed.
I always had the motto - it’s not about the
collection but how we “Keep ‘em Toys Alive” by expressing
and showcasing them through figure photography.
I do indoor photography using dioramas and/or
being creative with backgrounds; and, outdoors
photography where I can harness the strength of
natural light. Vibrant colors are my thing so that’s
what you’ll mostly see in my Instagram feed.Toy
collecting and photography are hobbies only select
people appreciate so I make it a goal to meet my @
ToyCrewBuddies who share the same passion and
hobby as me.
Hope you visit and support me on Instagram!
