PRACTICAL CLINICAL

COURSES

Dentistry is changing so rapidly, it is

almost impossible to keep up! We at

PCC want to help you and your staff

to overcome this challenge!

GORDON J.

CHRISTENSEN

Just a few of the ongoing changes:

• Digital dentistry now has the potential to be in many parts of your practice.

• A confusing array of technologies are available, only some of which you need.

• CR evaluated hundreds of new products last year with only one out of 5 or 6

potentially being better than current products.

• The economic situation is still unstable with benefit plans paying less, an increase in corporate

dentistry, more dental schools starting, and high debt of new dentists.

Staff persons from PCC and CR are in the field constantly seeing your challenges

and hearing your questions. Because of that we have initiated THE CHRISTENSEN

INTERNATIONAL STUDY CLUB that comes into your office weekly on the web and

additionally saves thousands of CE dollars in discounts (page 20–21).

There are no other unbiased, non-company funded, comprehensive combined education and

research organizations in the world to help you. We are committed to do so using the web, new

videos, the PCC CONTINUUM of hands-on courses and seminars with internationally respected

speakers, global CE courses, a world-class research institute, and our many publications.

The videos in our comprehensive DVD and streaming library represent some of the

changes now ongoing in the profession. See what’s been recently added by perusing

the adjacent page.

Regardless of your age or experience, taking the constantly updated courses listed

in our catalog will keep you at the standard of care in the profession. You can depend

on Practical Clinical Courses and the CHRISTENSEN INTERNATIONAL STUDY CLUB

to keep you constantly updated.

We look forward to serving you and greatly appreciate your support!

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT PLANNING

Efficient Diagnostic Data Collection by Auxiliaries

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

V1136 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

Release Date: March 2009 | Review Date: September 2015

See how your staff can easily increase practice efficiency and patient

treatment plan acceptance. This concept not only benefits your practice, but

also increases job satisfaction and self-esteem among staff members. Dentists

can accomplish complete diagnostic appointments, but this activity often

consumes too much valuable dentist treatment time. This video shows use of

qualified, educated staff persons in a highly effective diagnostic appointment.

During the appointment, a staff person legally accomplishes the data collection and

offers appropriate patient education. Then, the dentist meets alone with the

staff person to review and discuss the patient’s needs and desires. The dentist

observes the collected data, meets with the patient, and presents the treatment

plan. Most patients accept the plan on this appointment, and treatment is

started on the next appointment. Complete treatment planning assisted by

staff participation ensures patient understanding, staff empowerment,

and practice success!

Onlays vs. Crowns

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

V1572 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

What part of a posterior tooth is usually the most destroyed by

caries? Of course, the MOD portion. What part do you cut away

for a crown? The facial and lingual portion. Does this make any

sense? Let’s do onlays that leave the facial and lingual tooth

structure intact! The materials for tooth-colored onlays are now

EXCELLENT! Lithium disilicate (IPS e.Max) and others now dominate the

onlay concept. These are now well proven, strong, and unbelievably

esthetic materials. They can be easier to accomplish than crowns and their

esthetic qualities can last LONGER than crowns. Large class II resins are

NOT lasting long, but onlays do last a long time, and third parties will now

share on costs! The following topics are included in this presentation:

• Making onlay tooth preparations easy and predictable

• Supragingival vs. subgingival margins

• Obtaining optimum retention for onlays

• Bases and liners

• Laboratory made or in-office CAD/CAM?

• Desensitizing tooth preparations

• Cementation and finishing onlays

• Repair and follow-up for onlays

• Practice management concepts—why a patient should want onlays

The live demonstrations of onlays in this presentation will make

you want to do more of them.

Simple, Inexpensive Implant Placement —

Guide or No Guide?

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

V2373 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

Does this

edentulous person

require guided

placement for

implants or not?

Do you need guided placement for all root-form implants? The

answer is yes and no! Implant placement for healthy people who have an

adequate amount of bone usually does not require a surgical guide. Most

experienced dentists find single implant placement between properly aligned

teeth is relatively easy. However, those dentists who are just learning to place

implants usually find that surgical guides are useful even with simple cases.

Often, placement of multiple implants can be easier with guides. Some guides

are complex to make, expensive, and take time to learn — costing up to

half as much as the implant placement. This video demonstrates current

state-of-the-art implant placement using simple, inexpensive surgical guides

and comparing this technique with placement without a guide. Viewing

this presentation will make implant placement easier for both

beginners and those competent in placing implants.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea — Prevention and Treatment

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD; Michael DiTolla, DDS; & Jeff Wyscarver, RPSGT

V3963 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

Release Date: August 2013 | Review Date: September 2015

Is this subject really a dental/oral responsibility?

In recent years, snoring and sleep apnea have

become associated with dentistry, and many

dentists are finding some aspects of the topic fit

well into busy general practices. It is estimated

that at least 30 to 50 percent of the U.S. population

snores. You may already know of potentially

interested patients in your own practice. Dr. DiTolla

has personally seen a 60% affirmative response

from patients who are asked the simple question

“Would you like to hear how your spouse’s snoring may be treated without

surgery?” However, more serious than snoring is the potentially dangerous

condition named Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which is estimated to be

present in varying levels of severity in one in 15 adults. This DVD emphasizes

the methods to reduce or eliminate snoring and how to implement the

techniques into typical dental practice. Advice is also provided on diagnosis of

sleep apnea and potential treatments for this sometime serious condition. See

if this concept is right for your practice today!

Easy Crown Lengthening

Jon B. Suzuki, DDS, PhD, MBA & Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

V4346 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

Release Date: January 2011 | Review Date: September 2015

You routinely face these frustrating challenges in your practice in

situations such as: teeth in the smile zone that have uneven and unsightly

gingival levels; teeth for which you are planning crowns that do not have adequate

clinical crown length to provide optimum retention of crowns. Simple laser or

electrosurgery soft-tissue removal solves some of the problems. However, what is

the solution to those clinical situations where removal of soft tissue is judged

to be inadequate? Crown lengthening is a simple surgical procedure that should

be incorporated into every practice. You need only determine the most acceptable

level of the periodontal supporting structures, make a few easy incisions, make a

flap, remove the appropriate amount of osseous tissue, reposition the gingival flap,

and await healing. Crown lengthening, including needed recontouring of

underlying osseous tissue, should be a part of every restorative practice.

laboratory nearby or to one in your facility, a comparison of in-office and

in-lab milling, overcoming common challenges, and the financial and clinical

advantages of scanning impressions. Scanning is rapidly becoming the

Impressions

Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

V1931 [ 60 Minutes | 2CE ] $159 DVD or streaming

Release Date: September 2008 | Review Date: September 2015

Great impressions are necessary to create maximum effectiveness in

fixed and removable restorations, and you can make them! However, our lab

colleagues tell us that excellent impressions are a rarity. This DVD includes several

methods to make perfect impressions for crowns and fixed prostheses almost every

time. Removable partial dentures can be excellent restorations if the impressions are

highly accurate with chewing pressure on the edentulous areas simulating actual use.

The simple impression technique demonstrated shows how to accomplish just that!

Also, you can make fast, accurate, easy impressions for complete dentures when

using the step-by-step technique demonstrated in this video. Many of the procedures in

the techniques shown in this presentation can be delegated to competent staff. This

video will definitely enhance your fixed, removable partial, and complete

denture impressions using the best materials and techniques available!

Instructor: Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD

Would you like a simple, fast complete denture technique? Do you dislike

treating edentulous patients? Many dentists resist making dentures because

they have been taught difficult, time-consuming techniques and have had only

minimal success with denture patients. There are about 30 to 40 million

edentulous persons in the US. As a prosthodontist, Gordon knows the enormous

need for complete denture service. This DVD will show you how to make

denture service not only optimal for patients, but also satisfying and productive

for you. Our DVD provides close-up views of each step in the removable

complete denture prosthodontic procedure, including using staff persons for

much of the procedure. Dental implant placement is state-of-the-art treatment

for edentulous patients, but for various reasons, many patients cannot or will

not accept implants. You can still offer these patients a high quality, acceptable

alternative. Gordon also demonstrates how to retro-fit the denture for implants

if the patient later decides to invest in implants. Making dentures can be

relatively simple and predictable!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is streaming? Streaming is a method of transmitting or receiving data (especially video and audio material) over a computer

network as a steady, continuous flow, allowing playback to proceed while subsequent data is being received. Unlike downloading, the

data is stored on the cloud and isn’t permanently stored on your device. Where ever you have access to high-speed internet, you can

watch your video by simply logging into your account at www.pccdental.com. Convenient video bookmarks allow you to start watching

the video at lunch break, and finish it at home later.

Can I only watch each title once? You have access to every PCC video for an entire year with no limitations on how many times you view

each title. CE hours are available for every video you watch at no extra charge! (Subscriber must take test and receive 70% passing grade to

receive credit.)

What about new titles that come out during my subscription? All-Access Pass subscribers receive every new video the moment it

becomes available online. This is a great way to stay up-to-date on the most timely topics in dentistry!

Implementing Cone Beam Imaging into Your

Dental Practice

INSTRUCTORS: DALE A. MILES, DDS, MS, FRCD(C) &

GORDON J. CHRISTENSEN, DDS, MSD, PHD

In the last few years, cone beam radiology has made a significant,

positive contribution to the ability of dentists to diagnose and treat

many conditions and to plan pre-surgical procedures more precisely.

Clinical problems previously not appreciated using 2D radiography are now

visualized with 3D radiography facilitating better diagnosis and treatment.

However, understanding and interpreting CBCT images requires additional

education and experience.

This two-day, hands-on course is designed to provide overall knowledge about cone

beam radiology, a comparison of the many devices currently available, and how to

interpret the scan data.

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

1. Define and discuss CBCT imaging

2. Discuss advantages and disadvantages of this technology

3. Compare various current CBCT machines

4. Identify anatomy found in CBCT images

5. Interpret common reportable findings occurring in CBCT images

6. Make clinical decisions on how to implement cone beam into

their practices

Restorative Dentistry 3 — Advanced Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics

INSTRUCTOR: GORDON J. CHRISTENSEN, DDS, MSD, PHD

Every practice has patients with complex treatment needs, and both the treatment planning and the treatment are difficult, time-consuming, and expensive

for patients. This course simplifies those challenges. Gordon shares how to effectively treat complex cases, either with segmented treatment plans or in a concentrated,

efficient series of appointments. Observe many simplified treatment techniques developed by Gordon during his years in private prosthodontic practice. See logical and

efficient treatment of difficult clinical situations that will allow you to offer enhanced treatment proficiency for your own patients. Some of the topics included are:

• The easiest and best diagnosis and treatment for primary and secondary occlusal trauma; clenching and grinding bruxism; temporomandibular dysfunction,

and biocorrosive abfractions

• How to segment restorative and prosthodontic treatment to make it affordable

• Accomplishing fixed, removable, and implant prosthodontic procedures using the best materials, devices, and techniques

• The best materials and techniques for each step

• Optimum use of staff for complex cases

• Long-term maintenance and repair for complex patients

Every participant brings radiographs and casts of a “complex” patient they are planning to treat. These cases are observed by all participants in the course and, using

the principles learned in the course, treatment plans are discussed and critiqued. The concepts taught in this course will help you to effectively treat multi-step

rehabilitation cases easier, with the best long-term treatment results.
