Karolinum Press publishes more than twenty journals in many areas of study,<br />
including humanities, natural sciences, medicine, law, education and economy.<br />
The tradition of some of these go as far back as the 19th-century, while others<br />
have been established quite recently in reaction to the current needs of the university<br />
and academic community. Karolinum Press aims to publish prestigious<br />
open access journals, available to the broadest range of readers, both in electronic<br />
and in printed formats, while always protecting the rights of authors to<br />
the maximum extent possible.<br />

Based on an agreement with the Publishers International Linking Association (PILA), Charles<br />
University in Prague is entitled, as of 2014, to allocate Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Within<br />
the university, this service coordinated and provided by Karolinum Press.<br />
Open access<br />
In 2013, Charles University in Prague became a signatory of the Berlin Declaration on Open<br />
Access to Knowledge in <strong>Sciences</strong> and <strong>Humanities</strong>. As a result, all journals published by Karolinum<br />
Press are published as open journals (gold open access), and authors are allowed to<br />
self-archive preprint and postprint versions of their papers. Publishing in journals published by<br />
Karolinum Press is not subject to any article processing charges (APCs).<br />

Journal issues published by Karolinum Press can be purchased<br />
in the Karolinum Bookstore (www.karolinum.cz/knihkupectvi).<br />

Acta Medica (Hradec Králové)<br />
Acta Medica (Hradec Králové) is an English language multidisciplinary medical<br />
journal. Acta Medica publishes reviews, original articles, brief communications,<br />
case reports, announcements, and notices. The journal was founded in<br />
1958 under the title “A Collection of Scientific Works of the Charles University’s<br />
Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové”.<br />

AUC Geographica<br />
AUC Geographica (Acta Universitatis Carolinae Geographica) is a scholarly<br />
academic journal published since 1966 that focuses on actual results of research<br />
from a wide range of the geographical sciences: physical geography and<br />
geo-ecology, regional, social, political and economic geography and regional<br />
development, cartography and geo-information, demography and geo-demography.<br />
The journal disseminates research results on geographical theory and<br />
methodology and also strives to help solve practical problems in Czech regional,<br />
socio-economic and demographical policy-making.<br />

The journal AUC Historia Universitatis Carolinae Pragensis (Acta Universitatis<br />
Carolinae Historia Universitatis Carolinae Pragensis), subtitled “Příspěvky<br />
k dějinám Univerzity Karlovy” (Papers on the History of Charles University),<br />
is a periodical devoted not only to the history of the Prague university but also<br />
to the history of education and the student movement in the Czech Lands. This<br />
journal, published since 1960 as part of the Acta Universitatis Carolinae series,<br />
also publishes essays presenting original historical sources (all texts are accompanied<br />
by summaries in foreign languages, mainly in English and German). It<br />
regularly publishes reviews of and annotations on works on the history of education<br />
and annals of research activities.<br />

Founded in 2011 and published by Catholic Faculty of Theology, Charles University<br />
in Prague, AUC Theologica (Acta Universitatis Carolinae Theologica)<br />
is a major theological journal in the Czech Republic. The journal’s scope is to<br />
provide researchers with current theological research, scholarship and interpretation.<br />
The journal is open to all the disciplines of theology, such as fundamental<br />
and dogmatic theology, biblical and patristic studies, church history and history<br />
of sacred art and ecumenical studies. The journal aims to become a platform of<br />
a scientific dialogue not only in the Czech Republic, but internationally as well.<br />

Envigogika<br />
Envigogika is an academic online journal focused on environmental education,<br />
education for sustainable development and other related areas. Its objective is<br />
to strengthen the theoretical foundations of these disciplines through discussion<br />
and contribute to innovations in teaching practice. In addition to a pedagogical<br />
and philosophical disciplinary focus, the journal covers a wider variety of<br />
interdisciplinary themes. These include the social aspects of the sustainability<br />
transition and related changes in awareness, lifestyle and behaviour.<br />

The European Journal of Environmental <strong>Sciences</strong> offers a mixture of original<br />
peer-reviewed research papers, which bring you some of the most exciting<br />
developments in environmental sciences in the broadest sense, often with<br />
an inter- or trans-disciplinary perspective, focused on the European problems.<br />
The journal also includes critical reviews on topical issues, and overviews of<br />
the status of environmental protection in particular regions or countries. The<br />
journal covers a broad range of topics, including direct or indirect interactions<br />
between abiotic or biotic components of the environment, interactions of environment<br />
with human society, or environmental sustainability.<br />

Historická sociologie / Historical Sociology is interdisciplinary journal focusing<br />
primarily on sociological, political science and historical perspectives on<br />
the issue of long-term social processes and trends, modernization, globalization<br />
tendencies and impacts. The journal creates a broader platform for research in<br />
the historical social sciences. The epistemological field is not strictly bounded,<br />
it is also meant to overlap with civilizationalism, cultural sociology and other<br />

Ibero-americana Pragensia<br />
The Ibero-Americana Pragensia annual is an academic publication published<br />
since 1967 by Charles University in Prague. It has acquired considerable prestige<br />
and since the 1990s has been annotated by one of the most famous bibliographical<br />
journals Revista Interamericana de Bibliografia, published by the<br />
Organization of the American States. It was the first academic periodical in<br />
Central and Eastern Europe published in Spanish. It presents mainly essays<br />
in history, literary science and linguistics, and secondly also in ethnology, arts<br />
history, philosophy and other humanities fields. The section titled “Materials”<br />
presents sources on the relations of Central Europe with Spanish and Portuguese<br />
speaking regions.<br />
About the Editor-in-Chief<br />
Josef Opatrný is the director of the Centre for Ibero-<br />
American Studies at Charles University in Prague. He is a<br />
former vice-president of the Asociación de Historiadores<br />
Latinoamericanstas Europeos. His research is focused on<br />
American history of 19th century and Cuban history.<br />
