Don’t judge a book by its cover!
On the 25 November, 13 sixth form students ventured down to
London to support the CET Public Speaking Competition. Our
candidate was Y13 student Jade Windley who performed an
excellent speech tackling the idiom of ‘Don’t judge a book by its
cover’. Her presentation was able to cover a myriad of ideas from
social application such as Tinder to the moral judgements we make
regarding religious groups and transgender individuals. It was a
thought provoking speech interspersed with deft touches of humour.
Though Jade did not win, she did place in the top 3 of over 25
original entries. She was also highly commended for her efforts by
everyone on the panel, including renowned journalist/broadcaster Ekow Eshun.
BBC Children in Need Fundraising
Year 11 students Ellie and Abbie Holloway were once again
raising money for BBC Children in Need. This year's 6 mile
triathlon has so far raised £2,040.00. On 24 October 2015
the girls completed a one mile
swim, followed by a three mile bike
ride and two mile run and
donations are still coming in! This
is the girls 8th year raising money
for the charity bringing their
fundraising total to date to
£11,865.13. The girls were invited
to attend this year's appeal night at
The Hive in Worcester and were
lucky enough to be interviewed by
presenter Beccy Wood.
On 17 November, Hagley Park students,
Hannah, Shelbie, Ellie, Naomi and Grace
did a bake sale for Children in Need. They
baked cornflake cakes, a Victoria sponge,
swirl cakes and fairy cakes.
They said
afterwards, “We
raised £50. It
was fun but
nerve-wracking
when we went
to the common
room in the sixth
form as they are
older and taller.”
World Champion!
Well done to Year 8 student Jack Buckley who flew to Malta to be part of the England team
for the WMKF (World Martial Kombat Federation) World Championships.
Jack won Gold in 3 individual categories and was part of the Advanced boys team that also
won Gold. He came home with a further 3 World Championship Belts, and a Gold in the
World Cup Event.
Sixth Form Fundraising
Well done to all the year 12 and 13 students who have been involved in this year’s RAG week.
It looks as if they are well on track to raise £100’s for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Also we look forward to hearing how much will be raised through their Christmas Charity Event taking place
on 17 & 18 December. All funds raised will be split between Help a Squaddie Find a Home and the Multiple
Sclerosis Society.
End of Term Details
