Envision Equity Recipes from Around the World:
Teacher Acknowledgment
I am honored to have had an integral role in this cultural cookbook project. I
have had the opportunity to work with ESL Newcomer Academy students in
various capacities over the past year, and my experiences have been
enriching, educational, and rewarding. This particular project is important
because it provides a lens into the diverse cultures within our schools and
community—it is enriching and valuable for us all. Food is a common
denominator of all cultures, and it can help us tell the stories of who we are
and from where we came. We all have traditions, celebrations, and daily
rituals involving food. When Newcomers are able to share their traditions
with others, they get to bring part of their native culture to this new place,
and that is comforting. Enjoy reading the stories and recipes from these
wonderfully diverse students and educators!
