<strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> gained his medical degree from the University of Essen, Germany in 1983<br />

and went on to work in the Department of General and Vascular Surgery at the Evangelisches<br />

Krankenhaus Mülheim/Ruhr.<br />

Between 1987 and 2004 he worked at the University of Essen in the Department of Urology,<br />

as well as undertaking postdoctoral research in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular<br />

Oncology. In 1996 he became associated <strong>Prof</strong>essor and 2001 <strong>Prof</strong>essor for Urology.<br />

In 1993, <strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> qualified in urology as well as 2004 in urological surgery. In 2004<br />

<strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> became the Head of the Department of Urology at the Städtische Kliniken<br />

Lukaskrankenhaus in Neuss. Since 2005, he has also been Head of the Institute of Tissue<br />

Engineering at the Städtische Kliniken Lukaskrankenhaus.<br />

He is author and co-author of more than 350 articles. <strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong>’s areas of clinical<br />

expertise include oncology, pediatric urology, urinary incontinence, men`s health, and tissue<br />

engineering. He is in expert in GMP (good manufacturing practice) and European<br />

pharmaceutical law.<br />

<strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> has been an Auditor for the European Society for Urological Research and<br />

for the transplanting centers of the German Cancer Foundation. He was also Co-ordinator of<br />

the Tumor Marker Section of the West German Comprehensive Cancer Center.<br />

He has received several awards including the German Association of Urology’s Maximilian<br />

Nitze Award, the C.E. Alken Award, the European Association for Urology’s (EAU)<br />

Scientific Newsflash Award, and the Pierburg Award.<br />

2011 he received the UNESCO award in bioethics.<br />

<strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> is a member of several international societies including the American<br />

Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Urological Association, the EAU,<br />

the European Society for Urological Research, the European Tissue Repair Society, and the<br />

German Transplantation Society. He is a associated board member of the West German<br />

Comprehensive Cancer Center. <strong>Prof</strong>essor <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Otto</strong> is chairman of the <strong>DZITM</strong> (German Center


for Innovative Techniques in Medicine) , co-chairman of the International Tissue Research<br />

Association (ITERA) and chairman of the German Center for Pelvic Surgery.<br />
