WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“We knew this was going to be a journey. We knew that we were going
to go through some struggles like this. I think what can’t budge is the
standard. You say, ‘It’s not budging now. We have this where we’re going
and we have to see these plays being made,’ and I think everybody
understands that part of it.” Head Coach Gus Bradley on the ups and downs of the 2015 season
Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick on his impression of the Jaguars:
“You can obviously see the influence of Dave [Caldwell] and Gus [Bradley]
and what they’ve done in terms of building the team and the players
they’ve brought in, the schemes that they run on offense, defense, special
teams, how it all kind of goes together, the type of players that they
are using and how productive they’ve been. This is a good young team
that’s really hungry and very talented.”
NFL.com’s Marc Sessler on if the Jaguars have the potential to become
one of the league’s next great offenses: “The leap taken this
season by Jacksonville’s collection of young talent begs the question:
Can this be the NFL’s next great offense? It feels entirely possible. ...
Either way, coach Gus Bradley and general manager David Caldwell are
beginning to see the plan come together. The Jaguars can’t be shrugged
off as just another easy out. Young players are beginning to develop
and mesh, giving Jacksonville one of the NFL’s more intriguing rosters
heading into 2016.”
QB Blake Bortles on the advantages of growing in a system with the
likes of RB T.J. Yeldon and WRs Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson: “It’s
huge. I think to have the same guys in a system for a long period of
time, the arrow is going to continue to go up. Guys are going to continue
to grow and get better and more comfortable and confident to the point
where, as a player and as an offensive unit, we’ll own the system. That’s
where you’ll see so many of the older guys and the older quarterbacks
that do know how to do stuff like that because everybody has a good
understanding of the offense now and what’s going on schematically.”
NFL Media senior analyst and former NFL executive Gil Brandt on QB
Blake Bortles being the top QB picked in the last two drafts: “Anybody
that goes from 11 touchdowns a year ago to 30 touchdowns now,
and the season’s not over yet, that tells you a lot. I think he has athletic
ability that you want, and he’s not one of these guys that gets too high
one day and too low the next. I like his demeanor. I like his size.”
Saints Head Coach Sean Payton on QB Blake Bortles and the Jaguars
offense: “Well, they’re getting the ball down the field as well as anyone.
I think the confidence level he has in the two receivers - both [Allen]
Robinson and [Allen] Hurns - you see plays that are stretched, you see
those guys competing for balls above their head, and then you see plays
that come out of the pocket. The one thing that stands out is his athleticism.
When he scrambles, he’s scrambling with the intent to throw. So,
that becomes problematic because now the time on the clock is extended,
and we’ve seen guys like [Ben] Roethlisberger and Cam Newton and
these other quarterbacks extend plays.”
ESPN.com’s Mike DiRocco on why WR Allen Robinson deserved a Pro
Bowl nomination: “He’s the one Jaguars player who should have made
the Pro Bowl, but instead was named as the first alternate receiver.
However, he deserved to make the team. Not only is Robinson already
having one of the best seasons by a receiver in team history, he’s also
having one of the best seasons in the NFL this season. He’s tied for the
league lead with [14] touchdown catches and [sixth] in receiving yards
[1,292]. His [17.2] yards-per-catch average is better than every other
player with 1,000 yards receiving. ... Robinson already has the Jaguars’
receiving touchdown record and is the first Jaguars player since Jimmy
Smith in 2005 to surpass 1,000 yards.”
Head Coach Gus Bradley on WR Allen Robinson’s recognition as a
Pro Bowl first alternate: “It’s great. We talked about, ‘Things like this
take place within a team.’ I think it really shows up for the whole team.
So many people are a part of it. Here’s a guy who has worked extremely
hard and we have other guys who have worked really hard. ... It showed
on game day, and credit to a lot of people - the scheme, the offensive
line, the quarterback. But ultimately he did a good job this year, so it’s
cool to see.”
WR Allen Robinson on being named a Pro Bowl first alternate: “A lot
of people said I should have gotten in, but sometimes that’s just how it
plays out. Like I said before, it’s pretty cool any time you can be in that
category. A good percentage of the guys on the list are probably future
Hall of Famers. It’s really a great honor.”
NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington on the work ethic of WRs Allen Hurns:
“Some around the Jaguars building say Hurns and Robinson are truly
special, two players with work ethic and commitment that is up there, as
one source put it, with the “top one percent in the NFL.” Wide receivers
coach Jerry Sullivan ... said that Hurns’ work ethic and toughness compare
very closely to a rookie receiver he drilled 12 years ago: Anquan
Boldin. In terms of compliments from people with experience and knowledge,
you won’t get much better than that.”
Head Coach Gus Bradley on what WR Allen Hurns means to the Jaguars:
“His leadership, first of all, off the field, and I think his leadership
on the field is something that he brings to the table. ... Blake [Bortles]
really trusts him. All members of the team really trust him, his work
ethic. He’s a guy that really is what we’re all about because every day
that’s what he’s trying to do, is find a way to improve. I think every day
he does in some facet of his game.”
ESPN analyst and former NFL linebacker Tedy Bruschi on what he admires
about LB Paul Posluszny: “As a former linebacker, this is a player
I have always respected and enjoyed watching him play. He’s been one
of the better linebackers in the league and is a very solid player. He has
always continued to battle, even when the situation he’s been in has
been challenging at times.”
Head Coach Gus Bradley on how much room CB Davon House has to
grow: “I think he’s got a lot of room for growth, just like last week I saw
him out there - he was one of the last ones to come in, working on some
things. One of the things is he’s starting to understand his strengths and
I think that’s a big challenge for quarterbacks. Sometimes they look and
see another guy or another guy and try to emulate him or this person.
I think that is what Davon House is starting to understand - who he is,
what his strengths are and what areas he needs to work on. When you
have that, then you have a great chance for taking the bar higher.”
