Congratulations to . . .
Dr. Carol Summerhays – in whom we take personal pride as a California general dentist and

former resident of Burlingame – took office as ADA's 152 president. While addressing the ADA
House of Delegates in Washington on Nov 10 after her installation, Carol said, “My message to you
this morning is this: to seize the moment together. Embrace challenges and opportunities. Make
the most of possibilities that lie ahead.” “I think the House recognized we need to adapt to the
new future. … that we need to invest in innovation.” Elsewhere she is quoted saying she hopes to
transform the Association while making sure we “stay true to our core values.”

Katherine “Kaye” Dugoni
Aug 1926 – Dec 2015
Our sincere sympathy to longtime SMCDS members and
leaders, Drs. Art and Steve Dugoni on the recent loss of their
beloved wife and mother, Kaye Dugoni. A celebration of life
service was held on Saturday, December 19 in Redwood City.

In remembrance of their time together, Art generously shared
the following with us…
Heaven has a new angel. I lost Kaye to a stroke on December 3rd.
I fell in love with Kaye 72 years ago and she took my breath away
on that day. I am so happy I could be there when God took her
last breath away. She was the most beautiful, classiest, gracious
lady I had ever seen. She was a very special first lady of the dental
school and all the organizations I was privileged to be president
of. She defined me. She made me a better person, husband,
father, grandfather and great grandfather. I was so blessed to
have her unconditional love for so many years. The past few
years her dementia had a joy side to it as each night or day as I
came in to the skilled nursing facility she was there smiling and
eyes beaming and greeted me with “I have been waiting for you.
Where have you been?” She then turned to the CNA's and said
“This is my man.” It doesn't get any better than that.
