FHR’S NOW MANDATORY IN <strong>2016</strong> FOR UK MOTORSPORT<br />
MSA FHR Device Regulation for <strong>2016</strong>*<br />
From the 1st January <strong>2016</strong> these regulations stipulate that it is<br />
mandatory to use an FIA approved FHR device and fitted in accordance<br />
with FIA regulations in all Circuit Racing, Stage Rallying and Sprints, Hill<br />
Climb & Drag Racing.<br />

WHY SHOULD YOU WEAR ONE?<br />
FHR systems when fitted correctly can<br />
prevent serious injury.<br />
In a frontal impact, your harness stops<br />
your body from moving forwards, but<br />
without an FHR system fitted, your<br />
head will continue to move forward, at<br />
an accelerated rate due to the extra<br />
weight of your crash helmet.<br />
The force on your neck of moving<br />
forward and then suddenly ‘snapping’<br />
back can result in serious Basilar skull<br />
fractures which can cause paralysis<br />
and in some cases, can even be fatal.<br />
The FHR system slows this sudden<br />
movement down and also minimises<br />
how far forward the head travels<br />
during impact.<br />

forms of <strong>Motorsport</strong>. The two main<br />
criteria for FHR selection is firstly neck<br />
size and then your driving position.<br />
Primarily in Saloons you will require<br />
a 20° FHR and in a Formula / Single<br />
seater a 30° device.<br />
