Congratulations! You’re getting married! At this point, you’re probably very busy
searching for vendors and tasting cakes and registering for china. You’ll spend
months planning and DIYing. You’ll painstakingly select just the right color
bridesmaids dresses and you’ll handwrite what seems like a million thank you
notes. The months and days leading up to your wedding will be a blur and chances
are, your wedding will be too. Before you know it, the day will have come and
gone and all you’ll have are the memories.
Step back, relax a minute and imagine it’s five years from now. Do you remember
the little details, the sweet kisses, the kids dancing, grandma’s face when she saw
you in your dress, the things that make a wedding more than a party. Maybe it
was the last time your whole family was together, maybe your father’s speech and
your mother’s tears showed what a true and everlasting love they share, maybe
your husband wrote the sweetest note that you still keep on your nightstand to
this day. Maybe your flowers were just the right color and smelled like perfect
spring. You don’t ever want to forget these things. You want to preserve them.
Our business is finding and capturing all of these moments, and then making sure
you can revisit them for years and years to come. We aren’t a shoot and send you
a disc kind of photography business. We love tangible things like albums, rich prints
and heirloom boxes that you will display and actually look at and reminisce about
in your home. We love to create real art, we believe in quality over quantity. We
want your memories to stand the test of time so that in a hundred years, a greatgreat
grandchild will find a print of your wedding and be able to say
“Wow. How Beautiful.”
Welcome to Blackberry Photography.
The Lumineers
I’m Mariah, I’m the owner and lead photographer of Blackberry. If you’re looking for the
stereotypical “I first picked up a camera when I was 11 ” story, I’m not sure you’re in the right
place. I didn’t always know this was what I wanted or even that being a photographer was
a real job. The beauty of my passion for capturing images is that it was all a blur. One day
six years ago, I fell into it and I fell in love, and that was that.
I work primarily out of Central Ohio, but my wanderlust for the world is strong. I’ll go
anywhere you want to take me (pending work visa availabilty) and I especially love the
mountains.
I capture weddings in a classic, colorful, dramatic and almost illustrated way. I don’t follow
a lot of fads, and I find it’s best to mold my style to a couple, rather than the other way around.
I love finding out your stories and sharing a lot of laughs along the way. I hope that I can serve
you as a true professional, but also as a friend who can share tips and tricks, a shoulder to
lean on on your wedding day, and a bit of entertainment too.
My style of photography is classic and editorial, colorful and emotive. I strive to
create portraits that will stand the test of time, while still being modern. I strive
to find the creative angle in all things, so that you could possibly even put
something like a gorgeous shot of your wedding rings on your wall as art work.
Consultation
If you like what you’ve seen, let’s get together. We love to meet with all of our potential couples for coffee
or a cocktail to get to know each other. You get to tell us your story, we get to show you all we offer, we
talk your wedding, we talk shared interests and we enjoy some refreshments. Most importantly, we get to
ensure that we’re a good fit for one another. Consider us a date— and like any good date, we intend to
treat. If you cannot meet due to location, we’ll set up a Skype or Facetime meeting.
Contract and Booking
You love us!? Yay!!! After our meeting (or at the end of it), I’ll get you a contract that goes over all the
nitty gritty details we have to cover (we’ll go over it together) and we’ll talk any remaining questions you
may have. A $500 non-refundable retainer is also due at this time (payable via check, cash or major
credit card) to save your date. Please don’t hesitate to get this paid, as we continue to accept inquiries for
dates until a retainer and contract have been properly received.
Engagement Session (if you book one)
During your consultation, we’ll discuss when you’d like to shoot your engagement session. When that time
comes, I’ll get in contact with you to select a final date, time and location. We’ll work together to plan
whatever you fancy to commemorate your engagement: from the simplest of traditional sessions, to the
most elaborate portraits of your dreams. After we’ve shot them, I’ll edit and retouch about 40 images and
deliver them in your gallery within 6 weeks. (Consider this time period when planning save the dates or
guestbook ideas; do not wait too late to plan your session or having products in on time will be
EXTREMELY tricky)
Crafting Your Timeline
Approximately a month out from your wedding day, I’ll get back in contact with you to talk about your
wedding timeline. It’s VERY important to me to be included in your plans to ensure we have the
necessary time for photographs and to make sure your day goes as smoothly as possible. The more time I
have, the more photos you’ll get and the more creative I can be with them. Please let me know if you
have any questions regarding your timeline at ANY point- I’ve been there, seen that and will be more
than happy to help sort out issues or offer suggestions.
Wedding Day
A typical wedding day starts with us arriving, saying hello to the bridal party and then gathering all of
your detail items to go shoot for about an hour. This gives everybody some time to settle into the day, we
take our time on what end up being fun, artsy creative shots, and the bridal party gets mostly ready.
We’re also nearby if you get ready faster than you expected. When you’re about 80% made up
(makeup mostly applied and hair ready), we come in to shoot your getting ready images. When you’re
all dressed, we’ll photograph the bride and her bridesmaids and the groom with his guys. We also like to
get as many family formals done at this time as we can. It saves a ton of time and hassle after the
ceremony. If you’re doing a first look, this will be in this time as well. During the ceremony, we capture all
the magic and emotions, both wide angles and up close. Immediately following the ceremony, we finish
up our formal poses and send your guests off to cocktail hour. We then quickly get the whole bridal party
(if we haven’t already) together and then spend about 45 minutes to an hour with just the bride and
groom. We like to give you a few minutes to just “be” and savor the beginning hours of your marriage
without all the stress. The remaining hours are party time and we’ll photograph all the exciting activities
during your reception (entries, dances, cake cutting, etc.). We also make sure we’ve caught all of the
beautiful details you’ve worked so hard on. And if you’re so inclined, we’ll steal away for a few minutes at
the end of the night for some dramatic night portraits. When the night is drawing to a close, we’ll check in
to make sure we’ve covered everything and then wish you well and head off!
Photo Delivery
After your wedding, I’ll spend the next few weeks sorting through your photos, picking the best ones,
editing and curating them in a way that tells the full story of your incredible day from beginning to end.
Within 8-12 weeks, you’ll get an online gallery with all of your images in high resolution digital negative
format. You are free to share this with all your friends, make your own prints and put together whatever
photobooks you’d like as well. At this point, I’ll also have you select your 100 favorites for your heirloom
box and you can begin ordering physical products at this time from me as well. If you’ve ordered an
album, we’ll begin work on that as well.
The question I receive most about my engagement session is, "What are engagement photographs for? Everyone
already knows we're getting married!"
That's an excellent question and I have an excellent answer.
In addition to giving you the opportunity for a steamy, lovey-dovey hour or two with your soon-to-be-spouse,
engagement sessions actually serve a utilitarian purpose. Many people use their engagement sessions for their "Save
the dates," wedding planning website, invitations, or even as an announcement to the world that they're tying the knot.
A lot of couples even use photographs from their engagement session for wedding thank you cards.
Not to mention, e-session photos give you a chance to show off that gorgeous ring a little bit more (it can be very hard
to capture it with a snap and shoot camera). I'd wager a guess that you have loads of people asking you for pictures
of your bling!
As for how the e-session goes down, it's all pretty straightforward. You and I work together to create a customized
session. For example, we can shoot at the place you two had your first date, head to your favorite park or go somewhere
that makes you just bubble with love from the inside out.
Regarding what you wear, I always say to wear what you feel comfortable in. As we customize your session, including
the location and props, I'll provide you with tips and advice on how to dress for the day of your session. And, of course,
you can always bring a few different outfits and options for the shoot.
As I mentioned above, some of my wedding packages come with an engagement session. If you want to just have
me do your e-session photos, though -- or if you want to tack it on to a different wedding photo package -- I charge
$400 for the session. That includes two hours of time, unlimited outfit changes and a fully edited online gallery of usually
about 40 images for you to purchase prints and products from.
If you have any more questions about e-sessions, don't hesitate to ask!
Sign me up! I’m sold. Now how do I book my wedding with you?
If you’ve decided to trust your memories to Blackberry, we’ll get you all set up. A $500 non-refundable
retainer and a signed contract is required to save your date. We cannot officially hold a date and will
entertain other inquiries until the retainer and contract are received.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes! We love to travel, but we also love to do things legally. A year’s notice will be required for all
international weddings (to be able to have time to secure work visas and any other permits), as well as
transportation and lodging fees. Stateside, we’ll go anywhere, anytime. Transportation and lodging fees
apply.
Do you offer professional retouching services for blemishes?
Yes! Editing and retouching are two different things. Every single one of your images will be EDITED for
style, exposure, color, contrast and sharpness. RETOUCHING deals with “problems”. All ordered physical
products (not digital negatives in your gallery) are complimentarily hand-retouched at no cost to you. If
you wish to have all or some of your images retouched that you haven’t purchased a physical product of,
a cost of $1/image will be incurred.
Can I see an example of your albums/prints?
Of course. We actually love to meet with our couples prior to booking to get to know you, show off our
products and talk a bit about what you’re looking for in a photographer. We bring examples of all of our
products to give an idea of what you could create.
Do you make all of your couples have a first look, or is it optional?
Definitely optional, but we LOVE them. First looks offer ease of scheduling on your wedding day, an
intimate few moments with your beloved and a chance for some once in a lifetime images. We respect
tradition of course, but we’re here to say: first looks rock. Ask us to tell you more!
Can we see a complete wedding gallery or four?
We'd love to show you a few of our complete galleries. We understand that it's important to see an
entire wedding and not just a few "portfolio" images. Usually we bust these out at your initial consultation
(we like to walk you through the day with some commentary), but if we end up having to do a Skype
session or can't meet, we'll be sure to send you the proper links. to view a few!
How much time is typically needed to shoot a wedding?
This of course, is different for every couple. Our packages are designed to cover the most popular
timelines. Generally, if you’ve figured up a number (say, you’re being conservative and only think you’ll
need 6 hours of coverage), it’s probably best to go ahead and add a couple extra hours onto that. Travel
time, delays and unexpected moments are hard to plan for, but important to remember. Trust us, you’ll
never regret having added more coverage.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We gratefully accept cash, check, or major credit card. You will have the option to develop a payment
plan for your wedding, but the balance MUST be paid in full two weeks prior to your wedding.
How long does it take to receive my photos after my wedding?
We typically post a teaser or two on our Facebook page within 24-48 hours following your wedding. We
guarantee your entire wedding gallery within 8-12 weeks of your wedding, although we try to have your
gallery completed as soon as we can. We ask that you be patient with us and not contact us regarding
the status of your images.
What do you shoot with?
We are Canon people with a professional arsenal of equipment (and backup equipment). We’ve learned
our trade and are able to work with most any lighting situation to create pleasing, quality works of art.
Do I have to use your print lab or can I print on my own?
We prefer that you use our print service, as our lab offers the highest quality and level of customer
service in the industry so that we can guarantee professional quality prints. However, you will receive
printing rights with your images for you to print as you like. A guide to popular consumer labs will be
included with your USB.
Do you offer gift registries?
We do! We’d love to offer you the opportunity to upgrade your collection or purchase products with the
help of family and friends. Let us set up a registry for you today!
