PUBLISHING WORKSHOP ITINERARY
One Day Workshop
10-11.00 An introduction to the international publishing
business, how a book concept gets onto the bookshelf.
Two Day Workshop
First day same as our one day workshops.
2nd day is an intensive hands-on workshop.
Coffee
10.00 -4.30 (coffee + lunch + tea)
11.30-1.00 Angela will guide you through getting your idea
into a short structured synopsis that’s ready to send to a
publisher. She will individually look at everyones idea and
give you her expert advise.
Lunch
2.00-2.45 What are commissioning editors look for?
Angela has commissioned over 85 books and knows exactly
what is expected from authors and artists proposals.
Tea
3.15 - 4.30 Angela talks about book production, print runs,
formats, costs, what royalties and advances to ask for, rights,
selling translations and why your book needs to be global.
Angela will guide you through doing a page plan to get you
started on your book project, making sure you have all the
tools to create and present you book project professionally.
Look at cover designs, prelim pages, content structure,
quality of images and formats, page layouts, preparing text
in the right format, editing styles and production schedules.
Discuss in more detail global publishing houses, exactly how
to contact them. You will need to send the commissioning
editors or publisher your synopsis, a page plan, cover,
contents page and 8pp layout design if you book project is a
visual book.
Everyone has the opportunity of a 20 minute one-to-one
session with Angela towards the end of the day.
