IN MEMORIAM:
Rosamilda “Rose” Rosado
On
October 9th,
2009 we lost
our beautiful
Rose to a
long, valiant
fight against
cancer. Rose was South Sound's first
lady of karaoke and spent at least
three nights a week devoted to attending
many of the different karaoke
shows in the area.
Rose was a shining example
to all those who got in front of the
microphone to sing. No matter what
the key, Rose was never off pitch and
she never hesitated to throw a newly
learned song in the night's rotation.
And it never stopped her from telling
the karaoke hosts to "turn it up" or
"turn it down." They did, because it
was Rose.
Always by her side was Joe, her
husband of 35 years.
Rose's German heritage gave her
voice and attitude a unique quality.
She always dressed for the occasion,
stylish with European elegance. It was
always a pleasure to watch her sing as
well as listen to her voice. It was never
boring. She wanted the audience to
enjoy her songs.
At home, Rose had an extensive
karaoke system in her living room
for her personal use and she enjoyed
when friends came over for a songfest.
Both she and Joe collected karaoke
discs that started in the 1980's, and
building to maybe 50,000 songs today.
Their pride was finding and collecting
the rare karaoke CDGs no longer
available in commercial retail sales.
During the last six months of
her life, Joe hosted two karaoke par-
Rose here with her husband Joe will be sorely missed
when Marcella and Scott walk in. They
were judging the contest that night
and received the red carpet treatment.
Always good to see Marcella. She’s got
her own radio station operating online
at nisquallyradio.com – check it out,
it’s so cool!
M a r k
and Ann
i e g o t
there early
and had a
chance to
sing a stirr
ing duet
and a solo
each before
the competitionstarted.
Jackie
introduced
Shawnee as the birthday girl, and we
all know what that leads to… more
singing! Tesha works the bar and keeps
everyone smiling,
which isn’t too
hard, ‘cause she’s
a gorgeous young
thing.
Diana runs
the restaurant and
bar on her own.
She’s got a great
setup too, the little
corner restaurant
deli is also Willoughby’s.
quaint dining experienceoverlooking
Yelm Avenue.
The bar next door
gets cookin’ for ka-
raoke night every
Wednesday night.
Mark is feelin’ it
ties at the Jade Palace in University
Place. One to honor Rose's life and
the other, a birthday party about two
weeks before her death. She happily
attended both and loved watching all
her friends and family sing to her. She
was fiercely loyal to her friends and
they to her. It was more important for
her to celebrate life rather than have
people attend a funeral.
"Keep singing Rosamilda Rosado,
we can still hear you."
Diana said she’s worked hard to clean
up their clientele and image. No more
fights with the security on site. They’ve
done some remodeling, it’s so much
cleaner and comfortable for relaxing.
Anyway, they got a huge field
of singers to compete. Here’s a quick
rundown of the contestants and what
each of them sang in the contest:
Cody – Arms Wide Open
Annie – Put Your Heart Into It
Scott – Let Her Cry
Judy – Gunpowder and Lead
Jerry – Dead Or Alive
Mark – Let’s Go Crazy
Doug (Singing Cook) – Behind Closed Doors
Shawnee – Black Horse and Cherry Tree
Gunnar – Red, White and Blue
Rich – Almost Home
Crystal – Love’s Given Up On Me
Champagne – Bodies
Justin – Ain’t No Sunshine
Tianna – Say Nothing At All
Chuck – Trashy Women
Of course they all did really well,
some maybe a little better. Rich tore
our hearts out with Almost Home
by Craig Morgan. He landed in first
