PRIORITIES
As a member of the Sixth Form we expect
that you will always give priority to the school
in every way. The school, in turn, will channel
towards you as great a part of its total resources
as it possibly can. School studies,
commitments to school projects such as
stage productions, sporting events or service
to others must always come first. Commitment
is vital and once you have begun to undertake
any task or project you should
determine to complete it thoroughly and well.
PRIVATE STUDY
During your earlier years you had to attend a
class during every one of your 30 periods per
week. One major difference in the life of a
Sixth Former is that you will have some noncontact
periods, commonly referred to as ‘free
periods’. The manner in which you use your
"free" periods will be a measure of your selfdiscipline
and time management skills. You
will probably be pleased to know that you are
not expected to bury yourself under a pile of
books and study privately whenever you do
not have a formal class. You will be expected
to be seen relaxing occasionally or to be
using non-contact time to engage in community
service, work experience or even to go
out of school, by arrangement, to conduct
some research. At other times you will be expected
to be working hard at your studies.
You must learn to manage your time and balance
your efforts. You will also need to be
aware of the varying demands at school and
sense the tempo of school life. For example,
prior to important examinations or interviews,
you really ought to be giving top priority to detailed
study, while at other times, such as in
the week before the Christmas holidays you
may choose to give more time to the service
of others. The point is that you should always
endeavour to use your time positively and
constructively. Learn not to waste time.
Avoid being casual.
STUDY LEAVE
This is only permitted after the first half term
in the Sixth Form - if you have parental agreement
and a whole morning or afternoon free
of lessons. It is intended as an exercise in
self-discipline which is so important in the
context of Further and Higher Education.
DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
Dr Keith Varty is the Head of the Sixth Form
and Director of Studies, while Mrs Cherry
Shacklady is the Deputy Head of Sixth Form.
Mrs Ray Rimmer is the school’s Learning
Coach and Miss Lisa Foden the Sixth Form
Pastoral Support Officer. A School Councillor
is also available.
It is not at all unusual for pupils to find some
difficulty in coping with the different expectations
of them in the Sixth Form. Do not allow
problems to build up until you feel as if the
whole world is at an end. Immediately you
find you need help, consider approaching Dr
Varty or Mrs Shacklady for guidance.

ASTUDIO PREIFAT
Yn ystod eich pum mlynedd cyntaf 'roedd rhaid
ichi fynychu pob un o'ch 30 gwers mewn wythnos.
Un gwahaniaeth mawr yn y Chweched
Flwyddyn fydd cael rhai cyfnodau heb wersi -
cyfnodau a elwir yn gyffredinol yn gyfnodau
rhydd. Bydd eich dull o ddefnyddio'r gwersi
"rhydd" yn fesur o'ch hunan-ddisgyblaeth a'ch
gallu i reoli eich amser. Mae'n debyg y byddwch
yn falch o wybod nad ydym yn disgwyl
ichi eich claddu eich hun o dan domen o lyfrau
ac astudio'n breifat pob tro rydych yn rhydd. O
bryd i'w gilydd disgwyliaf eich gweld yn ymlacio
ac yn cymryd rhywfaint o awyr iach; ar adegau
eraill disgwyliaf eich gweld yn defnyddio'r
amser rhydd i roi gwasanaeth i'r gymuned,
profiad gwaith neu i fynd allan o'r ysgol, drwy
drefniant, i ymgymryd ag ymchwil. Bryd arall,
disgwyliaf eich gweld yn gweithio'n galed gyda'ch
llyfrau. Rhaid ichi ddysgu sut i reoli eich
amser. Bydd angen cydbwysedd yn eich ymdrechion.
Hefyd bydd gofyn ichi fod yn
ymwybodol o'r gofynion gwahanol arnoch yn yr
ysgol a synhwyro tempo bywyd yr ysgol. Er enghraifft,
cyn arholiadau ysgol neu o flaen
cyfweliadau pwysig, dylech roi blaenoriaeth i
astudio manwl. Ar adegau eraill, ychydig cyn
gwyliau’r Nadolig er enghraifft, efallai y
dewiswch roi rhagor o amser i wasanaethu
eraill. Yn y bôn, dylech ymdrechu'n wastad i
wneud defnydd positif ac adeiladol o'ch amser.
Dysgwch beidio â gwastraffu amser. Dylech
osgoi bod yn ddi-daro.
CYNLLUN GWEITHIO GARTREF
Caniateir i fyfyrwyr y Vl dosbarth weithio adref
ar ôl yr hanner tymor cyntaf os yw eich rhieni
yn cytuno, a'r amserlen yn caniatáu un bore
neu brynhawn yr wythnos yn rhydd o wersi.
Bwriad hyn yw rhoi cyfle i chwi feithrin yr
hunan ddisgyblaeth sydd yn rhan anhepgor o
lwyddiant mewn Addysg Bellach ac Uwch.
