Veteran’s PATH | Executive Director 1 The Organization Founded in 2008, Veteran’s PATH is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing veterans a safe environment to rediscover meaning, purpose, and joy in their lives through mindfulness, meditation, and community. The programs at Veteran’s PATH uniquely combine meditation/mindfulness practices, physical and outdoor experiences, and a community of camaraderie and peer support that help veterans rediscover peace, acceptance, transformation, and honor in a new journey forward of strength and service. Through a portfolio of annual events and retreats, veterans learn practical tools that help combat stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and other conditions that hinder their ability to thrive. Veteran’s PATH | Executive Director 2 The Opportunity Veteran’s PATH is at an exciting inflection point in its growth and development. Recently transitioning from a fiscally sponsored organzation to it’s own 501(c)3, Veteran’s PATH is in the process of building a new Board of Directors and fundraising pipeline to support an ambitious strategic plan. The new Executive Director (ED) will partner with the Board and staff to guide the organization from its startup roots towards a more mature nonprofit with the commitment to expand nationwide. The ED will explore scaling the organization’s business model, develop the metrics to monitor success and progress, and continue to build partnerships that will further the organization’s mission and support for veterans. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for the strategic implementation of the organization’s fundraising, programming and operations. This includes collaborating closely with staff, veterans and volunteers to host and organize events and retreats to support veterans in their successful transition from military service to civilian life. Additionally, the ED will support the Board in their collective efforts to set annual work plans and refine the overall strategic direction of the organization. In close collaboration with the Board, the ED will represent Veteran’s PATH externally and help secure the necessary resources to scale programs and invest in the organization’s operations and infrastructure. While a baseline of individual and institutional donors is in place, the ED will develop ambitious marketing and fund development plans to grow the organization’s revenue streams in collaboration with the fundraising committee of the Board. The ED will also deepen and refine all aspects of communications, including web presence and external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand. Finally, this position will be responsible for the organization’s finances, office management, and all human resources related matters, including refining and implementing policies and procedures. Key Priorities Building Relationships & Increasing Reach The Executive Director will invest the necessary time in the beginning to form lasting relationships with the Board, staff, veterans, donors, and more broadly with constituents and partners. Building strong and attentive relationships with these groups will be key to the success of the position. Because Veteran’s PATH is dedicated to improving the welfare of those who have served our country, the ED must be especially committed to establishing bonds with those currently participating in its programming, and be able to attract new members to the cause by crafting strategies to increase membership. Fundraising It is essential that the Executive Director work collaboratively with the Board to develop and implement a sophisticated fundraising strategy for the coming years. The ED will need to quickly get up to speed with current donors and then pursue broad and cutting-edge approaches to sustain and grow the donor base. Board Development As the new Executive Director of Veteran’s PATH, this position will play a significant role in helping the Board establish new operating procedures and modalities for collaboration.
